What's Changed
This release focuses on the desktop GUI: two features from the design refresh, plus
a dependency migration that takes the whole UI stack down to a single published
crate. Capture behaviour, the .PML format and the CLI/MCP workflow are unchanged,
as is the kernel driver — existing logs and scripts carry over untouched.
Highlights
- Background image — a custom image behind the entire main window, title bar to
status bar, with adjustable opacity. - Selectable event details — select and copy any value in the event properties
tabs, the way Process Monitor allows. - Legible highlights on the light theme — highlighted rows were washed out to
the point of being invisible on white rows. - One dependency — the GUI builds from
gpui-kit 0.6on crates.io; no git
sources remain in the lock file.
Background image
Set a custom image behind the whole main window, from the title bar down to the
status bar. Configure it under Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Background Image: pick a
file, then use Background Opacity (5–100%, default 35%) to keep text legible.
The chrome — menu bar, tool bar, monitor bar, event table and detail panel — turns
translucent so the image reads across all of it rather than only showing in the
gaps. With no image set the app looks exactly as it did before. If the image file
is later moved or deleted, it falls back to the plain no-background appearance.
See the screenshot in the README.
Selectable event details
Every value in the event properties tabs — Event, Process and Stack — can now be
selected with the mouse and copied, the way Process Monitor allows. Drag across a
single field or several of them; Ctrl+C copies the selection,
falling back to the selected event row when nothing is highlighted.
Fixes
- The highlight tint is now legible on the light theme. The six highlight
colours are a fixed pale set chosen to sit on dark rows; over the light theme's
white rows they were effectively invisible. - Scrollbars, resize handles and selection highlights now take their colours from
the app theme instead of falling back to library defaults. - The Claude skill spells out the MCP tool ↔ CLI subcommand mapping, so an agent no
longer strays into the wrong subcommand. Thanks @nblog!
Under the hood
- The GUI now builds from a single crates.io dependency,
gpui-kit 0.6,
replacing four git dependencies (gpui,gpui_platform,gpui-component,
gpui-component-assets). Upstream renamed thegpui-componentproject to
gpui-kitand publishes it, so builds no longer track two repositories at a
moving revision — no git sources remain in the lock file. chunks_exactwith a constant size replaced byas_chunks, which drops a
runtimeunwrapfrom the ETW call-stack decode.quinn-protobumped to 0.11.16.
Install
Download openprocmon-v0.5.0-windows-x64.zip below and unzip it. Run
procmon-gui.exe as Administrator — live capture loads the kernel driver and
needs elevation. Analysing an existing .PML does not.
The archive also carries procmon-cli.exe (the CLI / MCP server), the console
example, the Claude skill under skills/, and the MCP guides under docs/.
