$ rake doc:guides not working at all, neither under Windows7 nor under my Ubuntu 12.01 LTS box.

Environment:

$ ruby -v && bundle -v && gem -v && rails -v
ruby 2.0.0p0 (2013-02-24) [i386-mingw32]
Bundler version 1.3.5
2.0.3
Rails 4.0.0.rc1

Test case:

$ rake doc:guides
rake aborted!
cannot load such file -- h:/Ruby200_p0/lib/ruby/gems/2.0.0/gems/guides/rails_guides

Tasks: TOP => doc:guides
(See full trace by running task with --trace)

Looks like it did not make it into 4.0.0 ??

That is correct. It was merged into master after we branched for 4.0.0. This means it should be in 4.1.0, but if @fxn backports it to 4-0-stable, will go out in 4.0.1.

Should we do that, @fxn?

@blairrorani: the issue is closed. So it means it works.

K. Not for me it doesn't. I can get api docs but not guides. Does it work on Win7? Anybody else having this issue?

What is your issue exactly? Have you got an error message?

Sorry man:
rake aborted!
cannot load such file -- redcloth
tasks: top=> doc:guides
(see full trace etc..)

See the what's next section in the getting started guide

To be able to generate the Rails Guides locally with the doc:guides rake task you need to install the RedCloth gem. Add it to your Gemfile and run bundle install and you're ready to go.

Gotcha. Where is the rails forum so I can post these kinds of questions therein future? Thank you.

There is no "forum".
You can start discussions about the development of the framework in the google group: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/rubyonrails-core
And you can ask questions about your problems with the development of your application on stackoverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/ruby-on-rails

@blairrorani

I tried to generate the latest rails guides with rake doc:guides - and eventually it worked.

I had to bundle Rails 4.1.0.beta, nokogiri and redcarpet (redcloth is not used anymore). So just add these lines to your Gemfile to create the guides:

gem 'rails', :git => 'git://github.com/rails/rails.git', :branch => 'master'
gem 'redcarpet'
gem 'nokogiri'
