This is a beta for a small group of testers.

What it does

SimRig Console reads your Windows PC, shows what it found, and offers changes that it can put back, with one exception.

  • Quiet pauses a list of Windows services and tasks for a race. Restore puts them back.
  • Apply tuning and Undo tuning change a few settings (MPO and HAGS, and in one case the power plan), only on a supported PC.
  • The app does not promise a better frame rate. It promises to show each item of the list that it changed, and to put it back. One change stays: Quiet turns on the Windows Task Scheduler event log, so that race watch can read it, and leaves it on.

What to expect

On a first run the app will almost certainly say NOT READY. That is normal.

Install

  1. Download SimRigConsole-4.2.0-beta.1.zip.
  2. Compare the SHA256 of the zip with the SHA256 on this page. Do not go on if they are different.
  3. Right-click the zip and choose Extract All.
  4. Double-click Setup.cmd in the extracted folder and approve the Windows prompt.
  5. Start the app from the desktop shortcut SimRig Console.

The app is made for Windows 11. Setup does not check the Windows version. The app needs PowerShell 7.5 or newer and the .NET 9 Desktop Runtime. If one is missing, Setup installs it with winget.

If the app does not start

If SimRig Console does not start and Windows is still quiet, run RESTORE-NOW.cmd by hand. It is in the folder where you extracted the zip, and in C:\Program Files\SimRig. It needs no console. RESTORE-NOW puts back the values that SimRig saved before the session. If you applied tuning, it also undoes the tuning. If SimRig cannot read the record of the session, RESTORE-NOW does not put back the session values and tells you. If the record can be read but the saved values cannot, RESTORE-NOW puts back the Windows default values and says so. If no session is found, you can type DEFAULTS to put back the Windows default values.

How to send your logs

This beta has no button that sends logs. To send them by hand:

  1. Close SimRig Console.
  2. In File Explorer, right-click the folder C:\SimRacer\Logs\v4 and choose Compress to ZIP file.
  3. Send the zip to simrig@rickshank.com.

The logs have your computer name. See the last known issue below.

Known issues

The first start is slow. On a new PC the window can take about 20 seconds to appear. Click the shortcut once and wait.

A setting that Windows changed can show as a failed check. The check compares each service and task with a known good state, not with the state that your PC had. If Windows Update changed one (for example the service UsoSvc), the check can show a failed row before you use Quiet. In that case SimRig did not cause it. Restore puts back what it found on your PC.

Restore says "Push the bundle to the NAS". Ignore this sentence. It is for the author's setup.

Apply tuning refuses, and Undo tuning does not help. In a rare case, the refusal message tells you to run Undo tuning when Undo tuning cannot fix the problem. Then change no value by hand. Send the folder C:\SimRacer\Logs\v4 to the author.

RESTORE-NOW log. If RESTORE-NOW cannot add its lines to actions.log, the reason is only in restore-now.log.

GPU interrupt steering. This beta does not offer GPU interrupt steering on your PC. It is planned for a later version. Undo tuning never puts GPU interrupt steering back. If no Apply tuning wrote a value, Undo tuning says that there is nothing to undo. This is expected.

Your computer name is in the logs. The logs can have your computer name in them, for example in the file v4-report.json. If you send logs, the name goes with them.

iRacing settings show as not readable. If your iRacing folder is not in Documents (for example, it is in OneDrive), the check can show the iRacing settings and the free space as not readable. This is a warning only. SimRig changes nothing because of it.
