Minor Changes

  • A project's secrets now live in its .env file, the convention every project already follows. The vault reads the .env at the root of the repository (the main checkout, from any linked worktree) and shows each variable as a reference: GITHUB_TOKEN is {vault:github-token}. A secret you paste, set with /vault add or redcode vault set, import, or that the agent asks you for with vault_request is written back to that file, under the variable it was assigned to when the text says so (GITHUB_TOKEN=ghp_…), and .env is added to .gitignore when the project is a git repository. Secrets survive a restart, edits you make to the file are picked up while a session runs, and forgetting a name removes its line. Only variables named like credentials, or holding a recognized secret, are hidden from tool output, so PORT and NODE_ENV stay readable. A token the agent captured from a tool's output stays in memory only. The guidance the agent receives now says secrets come from .env.
