v0.5.1 - 2026-09-22
Release Notes
The bridge out of the Wine prefix is its own project now —
wineshm, MIT — and it stopped letting a
session that has ended read as the one you are in.
Fixed
- The pages outlived the game. A game exits; the section it was writing
into stays, because the bridge is holding it; and the file under/dev/shm
goes on holding the last frame for ever. A reader opening it found a car at
some speed on some circuit — real numbers, from a session that ended — and
starting the game again read that old frame until the first new one landed.
This is the Huracán at Spa, at its source. The bridge is told which block
changes while the game is alive (acpmf_physics, three hundred times a
second) and zeroes every block when it goes quiet. Zeroes are the state
every reader already waits through. - A bridge that was killed no longer reads as a working one. It leaves its
note and its pages exactly as they were, so the launcher card and the
diagnostics said the bridge was fine while the pages beside it held a dead
session. A running bridge touches its note every couple of seconds now, and
BridgeStatus::Abandonedis what an untouched one reads as — not workable,
and it says the pages are not a live session rather than quoting a version
at somebody about a process that is gone. - "Unreadable" now says what to do about it. A note this build cannot use —
another release, or another program's blocks in the same directory — printed
the fault and stopped, which is a support question rather than a diagnosis.
Changed
shm-bridge/is gone from this repository. It was a fork of
poljar/shm-bridge carrying two other people's copyright, with its page list
written into aconstarray so it served one pair of games and nothing else.
Everything published up to and including v0.5.0 shipped it and is unaffected;
LICENSING.mdhas the detail.- The bridge is versioned separately. They moved together while it was a
crate in this workspace, so "is the bridge current" meant "does it say what I
say". A bridge reading 0.3.0 beside this application is a matched pair. - Nothing has to be installed to start it: Steam ships the Proton the game is
set to use and records which one in the prefix it built, soprotontricksis
a fallback rather than a requirement. That covers the native, Flatpak, Snap
and Steam Deck layouts, and libraries on other disks.

Five faults found in one session and reported in one issue, fixed before
this one was cut.
Fixed
- One wrong stride in the packing key, and most cars lost their own tyre
pressures. v0.4.6 said every car's ownPRESSURE_IDEALwas read out of
data.acdfor the cars that ship it packed; for 72 of the 83 packed cars on
the machine this was found on, it never was. The fifth of the key's eight
components walked the folder name in strides of five where the game strides
by four, and one wrong byte decrypts the whole file to noise — which is
discarded here on purpose, so the failure was silent and looked exactly like
a car that ships no figure. The class table answered instead, and a 90s
Miata that wants 34 psi on both axles was told to deflate to 27.2. The true
keys were solved for out of 83 real archives rather than read out of the
code, and the test carries five of them. - The engineer said the car understeers and oversteers at once. Two
counters with a threshold each, and a lap understeers into one corner and
oversteers out of another — so the panel carried "More Front Wing" directly
above "More Rear Wing". There is one balance finding now: the larger count
wins, and how much larger it is becomes the confidence, so a car that only
ever understeers reads exactly as it did and a car that does both in equal
measure says so by being unsure. - And it named parts the car has not got. A car tagged
streetis
deliberatelyUnknownrather than pressed into a class, andUnknownwas on
the side that has a wing — so a car whose whole setup screen is pressures,
camber, toe, gears and fuel was told to add front wing and stiffen a bar it
does not have.games::catalogue::Adjustablesreads the car's own
setup.ini, which is the file the game builds that screen from, and the
guess is now only the fallback for Competizione and for a car whose data
cannot be read. - The panel's tread read inner-first on both sides of the car. The three
numbers under each corner carry no labels, so their order is the only thing
saying which edge is which — and on the left of the car the row ran the
opposite way round to the tyre. The left-hand tyres read outer, middle,
inner now. The numbers and the spread behind their colour are unchanged. - "no finished laps yet" was two different nothings. A debrief is built
from a lap watched from green flag to line, so a driver who starts the
program after setting a time has laps on the game's counter and none here.
The panel said the same sentence for that as for a session where nobody has
finished anything, which reads as a fault when there is a lap time beside
it. They are told apart now, from the lap count already in the frame.
Added
- Force feedback advice can be switched off. Assetto Corsa computes the
signal whether or not anything is plugged in to feel it, and nothing in
shared memory says what the driver is holding — so a driver on a pad was
told to lower a gain they have not got, every lap. Settings -> RACE ENGINEER
-> Force Feedback Advice, on by default.
Thanks
- @1sad again, who drove a 90s Miata and wrote
down every one of these. The tyre faults in v0.4.6 and v0.4.8 were his as
well; this is the third release in a row where the most useful bug report
came from him.
Thanks
- @Stuntman Daz, who could not get any of this
working on Bazzite and said so in detail. Every Linux fix in this release
started from that thread: the setting that does not exist, the README that
said the bridge was optional, and protontricks arriving as a Flatpak whose
own/dev/shmmakes a bridge publish where nothing can read it.
