First release of frank-xt8086: firmware for the xt8086 board, where an RP2350B is the whole chipset around a real Intel 8086 or NEC V20.
What it gives the 8086
- 736 KB of RAM (640 KB with an EGA/VGA or Hercules card)
- CGA/Tandy, Hercules and EGA/VGA video, over HDMI and VGA at once; the EGA/VGA card runs its own 8086-clean video BIOS
- PC speaker and AdLib (OPL2), in stereo on the jack, HDMI and the speaker
- 8259 PIC, 8253 PIT, 8237 DMA, 8272 floppy controller (two images), XT-IDE hard disk (one image), 16550 UART with a USB mouse as a Microsoft serial mouse
- A battery-backed CMOS clock (DS3231), and the microSD card as DOS drive H:
- GLaBIOS, XTIDE Universal BIOS, and bootOS as the fallback when there is no card
Using it
Flash frank-xt8086-1.00.uf2: with the Debug Probe (./swd_flash.sh), or hold S3 (BOOTSEL), press S4 (reset), and copy it to the drive that appears.
Put floppy and hard disk images in /XT/ on a FAT32 microSD card (fdd0.img, fdd1.img, hdd0.img by default). On the splash, DEL opens SETUP. While the machine runs, Win+F11 opens the drive menu and Win+F12 opens SETUP. See the README for the details.
This build has no serial console: GP44 is the right audio channel on this board. UART_CONSOLE=ON ./build.sh brings the console back, with mono audio.
