Atlantis III: The New World (2001)
- The whole game plays, on Windows, macOS, Linux and in the browser:
the intro, the start page and its five players, the Hoggar, the Land of
the Dead and the other worlds, every dialog with its voices, 3D heads,
lip-sync and subtitles, the inventory, the maps, every puzzle, the
ending and the credits. - The original's own menus and options: save and load with their
thumbnails, the volumes, the screen size (640 x 480, 800 x 600 or 1024 x
768), 16 or 32 bits, smoothing, the crosshair, subtitles. A size or depth
change applies when the menu closes, as in the original. - The edition: GOG.com's French release (Atlantis 3 - The New
World), the only one the project knows. Other editions (GOG.com's in
other languages, the retail CDs and DVDs) are unknown and untested:
their program is refused with its size and MD5, so that it can be
reported on GitHub and added. - On the desktop the game library finds GOG.com's installation and
plays it in its own window, as Atlantis II; the saves and the options
fileAtlantis3.cfgare kept in the player's data folder (atlantis3),
never in the game's folder, and F12 writes a screenshot there. Alt+Enter
or F11 switches full screen. In the browser pick the installation
folder; the saves stay in the browser. - What was checked against the original: the port follows the original
program's code, and automated tests replay what that code computed under
emulation, step for step: the whole story played with the mouse from a
new game to the credits (every script variable, flag and checkpoint save
after every step); every puzzle's board (the Hoggar's, the market and the
garden, Paleo's wolves, tiger, hunt and altar, the corridor's doors, the
unicorn, the tower race, the game boy, the star room, the drawer walls);
the maps, the travels, the ending and the credits; the menu pages at the
three screen sizes, their tooltips and the save thumbnails; the text
layout of every dialog line, the dialogs' camera, heads and lip-sync;
the videos, the panoramas and the place sprites in 16 and 32 bits; Escape
in each part of the game. - How much it has been played: beyond those replays, Atlantis III has
been tested by the developer's own play, not yet by many players. Please
report anything that looks or sounds wrong, with the place and what you
did. - Known differences: the texts are drawn from the game's own font at
the widths Windows gives it, but their antialiased pixels are Atlantis
Native's own (16 and 32 bits); the click on the in-game menu's Back
button may also act in the view behind it (not yet checked against the
original); the window, full screen and the display switch are the port's.
The player's guide
lists them all. - Atlantis III has no HD mode and no port options menu (F10): it plays as
the original does. The PortMaster build stays the first game only.
Atlantis: The Lost Tales and Atlantis II
- Nothing changes in how they play. The game library now holds the three
games, and its first start offers each one found on the computer.

Atlantis Native 0.5.11: a new bug fix for Atlantis II, the wooden girl in Ireland's book.

data. Play both games in your browser at
https://ripleyxlr8.github.io/atlantis-native/ or

New in 0.5.11
Atlantis II
- A new bug fix, on by default: the wooden girl leaves Ireland's book.
Once the goddess has spoken of the statue or of the poet, the girl of the
book is freed, but the original program still draws the wooden girl beside
her: the script hides her as a character, while in the book she is an
object. With the fix only the freed girl is there.--originaland "All
off" keep the original behaviour, and the fix has its own switch in the
options,fix_wooden_girl. Reported by Klaas Van den Broeck (@Klaasvdb),
github.com/Klaasvdb/atlantis2-notes. - Two more of the original's bugs that he reported were checked and get no
switch, because the game never reaches them: a dialog in which the hero
speaks last leaves the view turned away (only dialogs the game never plays
end that way), and a music stopped by the scripts could not be started
again (no script asks for the same music after stopping it). The port keeps
the original's behaviour for both; the technical notes
give the details.

Atlantis II
- The Italian Atlantis Collection DVD (2014) is supported. Install the
game from the DVD and point Atlantis Native at the folder the installer
creates. It shows as Atlantis II, Italian Collection (patch 1.01), with
Italian subtitles, menus and voices. - A new bug fix, on by default: films 19, 55 and 66 play in the game's own
language on GOG.com (French, German, Spanish) and on the Italian
collection. Their own tracks are installed, but the original program never
reads them: on GOG.com these three films play in English in every language,
and on the Italian collection in what sounds like Russian. Nothing changes on
the CDs or on GOG.com in English.--originaland "All off" keep the original
behaviour, and the fix has its own switch in the options,fix_film_language.
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- The first game of the same DVD is recognised: point Atlantis Native at the
folder its installer creates. It plays as the CD with Cryo's patch 1.01, and
the game shows it under that name.

Atlantis Native 0.5.9
Atlantis Native 0.5.9: the North American Beyond Atlantis CD, the Brazilian CD of the first game, and a package for handhelds.
You need your own copy of the games: Atlantis Native contains no game
data. Play both games in your browser at
https://ripleyxlr8.github.io/atlantis-native/ or
https://ripleyxlr8.itch.io/atlantis-native.
New in 0.5.9
Atlantis II
- The North American CD is supported: Beyond Atlantis (DreamCatcher,
2000, 4 CDs). It needs the same files as the French CD: the folder of
the installed game with the images of its four CDs (or copies of the
CDs); in the browser, copies of the CDs. It shows as Atlantis II, CD,
English (DreamCatcher, 2000). It has a program of its own, with version
1.01's code, and opens on its own DreamCatcher logo. - A new bug fix, on by default, keeps subtitles over films visible at
800 x 600 on every edition. The DreamCatcher program shows them; the
French CD, the 1.01 patch and GOG.com's program draw them where the next
frame covers them.--originalhides them on those editions, as they
shipped.
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- The Brazilian Portuguese CD is supported: MSD Multimídia's Atlantis:
A Lenda Perdida (1997, 4 CDs, dubbed). Choose the folder with
atlantis.exeandBIGCD1.BIG…BIGCD4.BIG, or the four disc images.
It shows as CD, Brazilian Portuguese (MSD, December 1997 build) and
plays with its own program: Portuguese voices and subtitles, and menus
drawn with its own fonts and widths. - The only public dump known of that CD has unreadable sectors. Played
from it, a few films of disc 2 stop early and one panorama does not show;
nothing crashes. This comes from the dump: no original disc has been
checked yet. - Deleting a player on the 1997 programs now writes
players.atlas the
original does. Nothing visible changes.
Handhelds
- A PortMaster package,
atlantis-native-portmaster.zip, for 64-bit ARM
handhelds, with the first game for now. The gamepad is the mouse, and an
on-screen keyboard (a grid of letters and digits) types the players'
names. Its gamepad and keyboard code started from
Klaas Van den Broeck's R36S port.
Unzip it into theportsfolder and copy your game's files into
ports/atlantisnative/gamedata/, or drop the zip into PortMaster's
autoinstallfolder. It has been played on a Raspberry Pi 5 under
Batocera with an Xbox pad; it has not been run on an R36S yet. - Xbox-style pads that SDL does not recognise, such as an Xbox Wireless
Controller over Bluetooth, work without acontrols.ini.
Windows
- A build for Windows on ARM,
atlantis-native-windows-arm64.zip.

Atlantis Native 0.5.8
Atlantis Native 0.5.8: Atlantis II from GOG.com in four languages, and the Czech CD.
You need your own copy of the games: Atlantis Native contains no game

https://ripleyxlr8.itch.io/atlantis-native.

Atlantis II
- GOG.com's English, French, German and Spanish installations are
supported. GOG.com installs the same program for all four languages;
only the texts and voices differ. Atlantis Native tells the language
from the installed texts and shows it in the edition's name, for
example Atlantis II, GOG.com, German (patch 1.01). Every subtitle is
laid out as the original lays it out, every letter is drawn (French
œ, Germanß, Spanishñ ¿ ¡) and every voice the installation
holds plays. - Films 19, 55 and 66 play GOG's English soundtrack in every
language, as the original does: GOG.com placed the English tracks
in the folder the program reads these three films' sound from. Each
language's own track is installed but never read. - Older GOG.com installations are accepted: the program of GOG's
2018 build and of its June 2022 build, shown as (patch 1.01, 2018
build) and (patch 1.01, June 2022 build). They differ from the
current program only in Windows-specific fixes that Atlantis Native
does not need, so all three play the same.
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- The Czech CD is supported: Bohemia Interactive's four-CD release
(2000), also re-issued with the magazine GAME4U Speciál 2 (2001).
Choose the folder withatlantis.exeandBIGCD1.BIG…
BIGCD4.BIG, or the folder of the four disc images. The game shows as
CD, Czech (Bohemia Interactive, 1999 build); its saves are its own,
apart from those of a CD with Cryo's patch 1.01. - It plays as it shipped. Its program is Cryo's 1.01 patch, over
the US CD's data with Czech subtitles, menus, chapter names and
credits, and English voices. The subtitles are read as a Czech Windows
shows them (č,ř,ůand the other Czech letters), the menus draw
the Czech letters of its own fonts, and a player name can be typed
withŠ Ť Ž š ť ž. The player screen keeps the program's French
NOUVEAU JOUEUR line, as in the original. - GOG.com's 2015 installation (its build 3341) was checked: its program
is Cryo's patch 1.01 with four of GOG's fixes, and Atlantis Native
plays it as the CD with patch 1.01, as before.

Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- The US retail CD is supported: the four-CD release Interplay
distributed in the United States in 1997, whose program is an August
1997 build of its own. Choose the folder withatlantis.exeand
BIGCD1.BIG…BIGCD4.BIG, or the folder of the four disc images. The
game shows as CD, English (US, Interplay, August 1997 build); its
saves are its own, apart from those of the May 1997 English CD. - It plays as it shipped. Its program is the August 1997 French CD's
with English texts, so it behaves as the August 1997 French and German
CDs do, not as the May 1997 English CD: subtitles drawn in Arial
(Liberation Sans, as for the 2001 build), typed player names kept as
typed, a second death in the same section followed by the next
narrator line. Its only code changes are two rules of the 2001 build,
which Atlantis Native applies to it and to no other 1997 CD: the
navigate cursor, not the talk cursor, over the characters 0x219 and
0x21a, and Rhea always on camera 2 in the dialogs. - Its data are the August 1997 revision in English: the May 1997
English CD's dialog texts with 31 lines corrected or in American
spelling, and a few script changes of that revision (chapters 15, 47
and 70). F10's bug fixes for it are the August 1997 French CD's.

Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- Start in full screen: a new row of F10's options menu, after the
HD options (Off by default). On, the game's window opens in full
screen every time; when the game is chosen in the game library, its
window goes to full screen as the game starts. It is kept in
settings.iniwith the edition's other settings, so it survives
updates. Switching full screen while the game runs changes it too
(F, F11 or Alt+Enter, or the system's own way, such as macOS's green
button): the window opens the way you left it, as Atlantis II already
does.--fullscreenstill opens in full screen whatever the option
says, without changing it. The browser lets a page go full screen only
on a key or a click, so the web version has no such row: press F or
use the page's button. Thanks to derRichter for the
request on GitHub. - The options menu's rows are 20 pixels high instead of 24 on the
desktop (scaled with the window), so that the menu, with its new row,
keeps a margin on the 640x480 screen. The web version's menu is
unchanged. - Fixed: HD options undone at the next start. After a change of the
HD options in F10 (panorama filter, sharpening, interface, sharp
subtitles, widescreen, video sides), a change in the game's own
options page (subtitles, OMNI 3D mode) or sound page wrote back to
settings.inithe HD options the game had started with: the next
start had lost the F10 choices. The game's own pages now keep them.

Atlantis II in the browser
- The web page plays Atlantis II, as the desktop does: the whole
game, its scripts, dialogs and 3D talking heads, music, videos and
menus. Choose your game folder on the page; the browser asks to
confirm that the page may read it. Its files are read inside the
browser, a part at a time when the game needs it (its 2.4 GB are
never loaded whole), and sent nowhere. - What to pick:
- the GOG.com edition: the folder where the game is installed (the one
holdingGame.exeandDATAS_A2); - the CD (version 1.00, or patched to 1.01): the folder of the
installed game (the one holdingatlantis2.exe,wamand
scenar), with a copy of each of the four CDs in it, for example in
foldersCD1toCD4, each holding the disc'sDATAS_A2folder.
The copies may also sit beside the installed folder: then pick the
folder holding both. The browser reads files, not CD images
(.iso...): copy the discs' files; - a folder holding both games: the page asks which one to play.
- the GOG.com edition: the folder where the game is installed (the one
- The same game as on the desktop: the saves (the original's files,
kept in the browser), F10's options menu with the HD mode, widescreen
and the bug-fix box, full screen (F, F11 or the page's button). The
mouse turns the view once a click has taken it (the browser's pointer
lock; Escape lets it go); where the lock is refused, clicks act at
once and the arrow keys turn the view. The sound starts with the first
click or key, as browsers require. A hidden page (another tab, the
browser minimised) holds the game, its clock and its sound, as the
desktop does without the focus. - Full speed: the HD mode's panorama and the dialogs' pictures are
drawn by the graphics card. Measured in Edge on an i7-9700K, a frame
takes 1.5 ms (original graphics) and 3.8 ms (HD) while the view turns,
4.4 ms and 11.1 ms in a dialog with a 3D head, for 16.7 ms available;
Chrome measures the same. - Tested from the start-up intro to Tibet's first dialog: in Edge
with GOG.com's French edition, the French CD's installed folder with
copies of its four CDs, and the same patched to 1.01; in Chrome and
Firefox with the GOG.com edition.
Its limits:
- Safari has not been tried with Atlantis II.
- A browser does not let a page keep a folder: choose it again at each
visit (there is no game library). The four CDs are needed at once (no
disc can be added while the game runs). - On a computer about half as fast as a recent desktop, the HD mode runs
a dialog somewhat slower than it should: choose the original graphics
in F10's options there (they keep the full pace). - The graphics card computes the HD view in single precision: about one
pixel in a thousand differs by a level or two from the desktop's. - A browser gives a site about 5 MB of storage, shared by both games:
thousands of Atlantis II saves fit (one or two KB each).
Both games
- A save the browser refuses (its storage full) is now shown at the
top of the page, rather than only logged. - The page shows what to pick for each game side by side, and its key
reminders for the game being played.

Atlantis II (Beyond Atlantis, 1999)
- The whole game plays, on Windows, macOS and Linux: Tibet and its
mandalas, Ireland, China, Yucatán with Xibalba, the space travel,
Shamballa, Atlantis and the end credits, with the scripts, dialogs,
3D talking heads and their lip-sync, music, place sounds, videos, the

(The web version does not run Atlantis II yet.) - Its puzzles: Tibet's mandalas; Ireland's Brigid's cross, skull,
ogham stones and blackbird songs; China's figurines, chest, incense,
five wheels, pearl and dragon, turtle ring and the labyrinth's souls;
Yucatán's counting grids; Xibalba's star map, canoe and spider's web;
Shamballa's fireflies and the octopus fight of Atlantis. - The editions: the French CD (the folder of the installed game,
with the images of its four CDs or copies of the CDs),
a CD installation with the official patch 1.01 (one executable for the
French and the English releases, played as 1.01 plays), and the
GOG.com edition (1.01 with GOG's own changes; tested with its French
version). Another executable is refused with its identifiers. - HD mode (optional): the panoramas and the dialogs' 3D heads drawn
at the window's resolution with the original's projection, sharp
subtitles and menu texts, and Widescreen with black or blurred
bars beside the videos. With the original graphics, the original's
640 x 480 and 800 x 600 screens. - Saves: the original's own files, 99 slots per player, from the
game's menu. - Bug fixes (optional), each with its own switch in F10's
"Choose the bug fixes...": the music tracks heard to their end, an
ended track started again, the rare missing music mark (1 in 32768)
that stops the original with a fatal error, and Ireland's cross and
ogham clicks. "All off" plays the game as it shipped.
Atlantis: The Lost Tales
- Cryo's 1998 DVD-ROM, in its eight languages: English, French,
German, Dutch (side A); Spanish, Italian, Swedish and Japanese (side B),
each language its own edition, from the drive, a copy of a side or the
images of the sides. The Japanese version draws its subtitles with MS
PGothic when you havemsgothic.ttc, else with the bundled Noto Sans
JP, and its SUBTITLES option switches between Japanese, English and
none. - The Perfect Edition (Tgames' 2018 package of the DVD's English
version). - The German CD's first pressing (May 1997 build), as a folder or
as the four disc images. Thanks to derRichter for the
report on GitHub. - One switch per bug fix: F10's "Fix original bugs" shows On, Off
or Custom, and "Choose the bug fixes..." lists the fixes of the
edition played, each with what the original does without it. New
fixes: the DVD's Dutch and Swedish subtitles shown with their accented
letters, and the Japanese DVD's two "file not found" boxes at start-up
skipped. - The game library knows both games: it finds Atlantis II's GOG.com
installation, takes the folder of a CD installation with "Add a game
folder...", and opens either game.--list-gamesprints the games
found on the computer.
Everywhere
- macOS on Intel:
atlantis-native-macos-x64.dmg, beside the Apple
Silicon build.
Fixes
- The error box ends on OK only, as the original's: Escape leaves it
open. - The credits' fonts are read from the disc in the drive at each credits
run, as the original does (the German May 1997 CD's discs do not all
hold the same ones).

Atlantis Native 0.4.0
Atlantis Native 0.4.0: the Chinese CDs, a Raspberry Pi build, and a
second review against the original.
You need your own copy of the game: Atlantis Native contains no game
data. Play in your browser at https://ripleyxlr8.github.io/atlantis-native/
or https://ripleyxlr8.itch.io/atlantis-native.
New in 0.4.0
- The two Chinese CDs: the Traditional Chinese edition (1998) and the
Simplified Chinese edition (1999), four discs each, as a folder or as
disc images. Subtitles are broken into lines and drawn as those CDs do;
their menus, LOAD list and opening captions use the pictures shipped on
the discs. Put Windows'mingliu.ttc(Traditional) orsimsun.ttc
(Simplified) in the game folder to use the font the original used;
otherwise the bundled Noto Serif TC or SC is used (SIL Open Font License
1.1). The web version downloads these fonts only for the Chinese CDs. - Chinese READMEs: 繁體中文
and 简体中文. - Linux 64-bit ARM (Raspberry Pi 4 and 5):
atlantis-native-linux-arm64.tar.gz. --fullscreenopens the window in full screen, for launchers such as
Batocera's Ports.- O opens and closes the options menu, as F10 does, for keyboards
without function keys. - Zoomed video sides (widescreen HD): the zoom is 4 to 5 times faster
with the same pixels, it takes the first and last 15% of a move's video,
and the joins between the video and its sides are blurred. - A second review against the original game's code: the inventory
bar's slides and pick-up, the LOAD picker and ARE YOU SURE, the player
screen, the dialog line rules, the head renderer and lip-sync, the
music fades and ambient pans, the warp loop's turn and transition video
order, several puzzles (rats, snakes and hens, turning pieces), the
script's subject gates and header angles now follow the original more
closely.
Fixes
- No more freeze on the last frame of a move's video before the view.
- A skipped move video no longer leaves its sides on screen.
- The GOG build's players, checkpoints and settings keep their place
after an update. - Loading a checkpoint keeps the follower-talk state, so the next
conversation hides the other followers again.
