This release makes the desktop app safer to install and much harder to lose work in.
Signed and notarized
- macOS: the app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. There is no "damaged" message and no Terminal workaround. The first launch shows the normal "downloaded from the Internet" question.
- Windows: the installers and the program files are signed with Azure Artifact Signing, so Windows shows a verified publisher. SmartScreen may still show a notice for a while, because that reputation builds with downloads.
Finished files are saved for you
Results from the server-side tools (video upscaling, background remover, denoise and deblur, eraser, colorize, vocal remover, noise remover, and the video tools) are now copied into one folder the moment they finish, even if the window is closed or you walked away. The default is Documents/NextGenUp. A message at the bottom says where the file went, with a Show button that opens it. A name that already exists gets a number instead of being overwritten. Open the new folder button in the top bar to change the folder, switch automatic saving off, or open it. The Download and Save buttons still save another copy anywhere you like. (#14, #16)
Storage cleaner
The same panel shows the leftover working files the app keeps and removes them with one click. It never deletes AI models, files in your save folder, or a job that is still running. A finished result you have not saved yet is only deleted if you tick the extra box. For a deeper clean, the panel links to Jharu, our free open-source disk cleaner for Mac and Windows. Copies of the files you opened are now also removed when the app starts and when it closes. (#14)
Safer long jobs
- The computer is kept awake while a job runs, so a long video no longer stalls when the machine goes to sleep. The screen can still turn off.
- The app asks before closing, or quitting with Cmd+Q, while a job is running. Closing used to stop the job without a word. (#16)
Fixes
- Drag and drop now works in the desktop app. Dropping a file onto an upload box did nothing, while clicking to upload worked. (#11)
- Apple Silicon builds now use GitHub's current macOS runners, which keeps future releases building.
