RBgrid v1.1.2

One cumulative release on top of v1.1.0. It includes the v1.1.1 fixes, which were never published on their own.

Highlights

  • Up to 8 rbAmp modules per hub (was 3), all on one bus.
    • Add them from the app: Points → Add a module.
    • Modules are found and added at whatever address they answer.
  • One STD-U3I3 as a three-phase input. On the module card choose Use as the three-phase input. After a restart the input is one point with per-phase readings and the phase-rotation check.
  • The web app is in this release: its source is in webapp/, and the built app is attached as rbgrid-ui_v1.1.2.zip. Install it on the hub as below; to build it yourself, see webapp/README.md. The hub's own pages now link to the app it serves.
  • History for up to 12 points (was 8). Points beyond 12 show live values and are marked "live only".
  • Home Assistant:
    • "Cost (Total)" and "Export value (Total)" can be used in the Energy dashboard: they are now state_class: total.
    • "Revenue" is renamed "Export value". Same unique IDs, so entities and history are kept.
  • Factory reset in the app really resets the hub: settings, points, tariff, Wi-Fi, tokens, and optionally history. The hub then starts as on first boot.
  • Hub access point: set your own password in the app (Settings → Network → Hub access point). The app warns while the setup password is unchanged and no API token is set.
  • Stability and diagnostics:
    • larger web-server stack;
    • clear messages when the module bus is held or stuck;
    • STD modules are no longer shown as "uncalibrated".

Files

File What it is
main_release.bin Application image. Use it for an over-the-air update from the app (Settings → Hub firmware) or at 0x20000 for a USB flash.
bootloader.bin, partition-table.bin, ota_data_initial.bin The other three files for a USB flash of a blank hub.
rbgrid-ui_v1.1.2.zip The web app for the hub: kit/ + ui-manifest.json (built from webapp/ in this tag).
THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md Open-source packages bundled in the web app.

USB flash (ESP32, 16 MB)

python -m esptool --chip esp32 -p <PORT> -b 460800 write_flash --flash_mode dio --flash_size 16MB --flash_freq 40m \
  0x1000 bootloader.bin 0x10000 partition-table.bin 0x17000 ota_data_initial.bin 0x20000 main_release.bin
  • To keep the hub's settings, Wi-Fi and history, flash the four files as above. Hubs on v1.1.x use the same partition table.
  • To start clean, run python -m esptool --chip esp32 -p <PORT> erase_flash first.
  • On a clean (or new) hub, it starts its own Wi-Fi rbgrid-xxxx (setup password RBGRID123). Open http://192.168.4.1/, choose your home Wi-Fi and enter its password.
  • Hubs already on v1.1.x can update over the air from the app instead (Settings → Hub firmware). Their Wi-Fi and settings are kept.

Install the web app

Unzip rbgrid-ui_v1.1.2.zip, then:

HUB=http://<hub-address>
cd kit
for f in $(find . -type f | sed 's|^\./||'); do
  curl -sf -X POST "$HUB/api/system/ui-upload?path=$f" -H 'Content-Type: application/octet-stream' --data-binary "@$f" || { echo "upload failed: $f"; exit 1; }
done
curl -sf -X POST "$HUB/api/system/ui-commit" -H 'Content-Type: application/json' --data-binary @../ui-manifest.json

If you have set an API token, add -H "Authorization: Bearer <token>" to both calls. Then open http://<hub-address>/.

After you set up

  • Change the hub's access-point password and set an API token.
  • After adding points, restart the hub so they start keeping history.

Validation

  • The images in this release were validated on hardware (ESP32-WROVER, 16 MB):
    • fresh USB flash and setup;
    • API contract 94/94;
    • an over-the-air update from v1.1.0 through the app;
    • adding BASIC-UI3 and STD-U3I3 modules;
    • the three-phase input;
    • day records;
    • a 20-minute soak with no restarts.
  • A build from source produces a different SHA256 than these images: the build embeds its date and time. That's expected.
