New

  • Keys in notes: ⌘B bold, ⌘I italic, ⌘E code, ⌘K link, ⌘1 to ⌘3 headings, ⌘⇧7 bullets, ⌘⇧9 numbers, ⌘⇧L checkboxes, ⌘' quotes. Each writes the Markdown for you, and pressed again takes it off. The file stays plain text, and ⌘Z undoes it.
  • Enter goes on with a list: the next bullet, number or checkbox. Enter on an empty one ends the list, and ⌥Enter starts a plain line.
  • Text size in notes: ⌘+ and ⌘- for bigger and smaller text, ⌘0 for the normal size. It's one size for every note, and it stays until you change it.

Changed

  • A note's title reads without its Markdown: # **Groceries** shows as Groceries.

Fixed

  • ⌘Z in a note: what you undid wasn't always saved, and could come back when the note reopened.
  • ***bold italic*** draws as both, and bold and italic draw inside headings.
  • If the clipboard history can't be read, it says so instead of showing an empty list.

New

  • In your language: Copperlight follows your Mac's language. It now speaks Portuguese, from Brazil and from Portugal; anything not translated yet shows in English. On a Mac in Portuguese:

    • keywords work in Portuguese too, beside the English ones: clima lisboa, reunioes, accents optional;
    • apps are found by both names: notes and notas;
    • add todo pagar a renda amanhã 17h reads the date;
    • Settings › Keywords › Words in português turns the Portuguese words off.

To use another language for Copperlight than your Mac's, choose it in System Settings › General › Language & Region › Applications.

  • Add your language: three plain text files, no Xcode needed. TRANSLATING.md says how, and every pull request gets the app built from it to try.

  • Rename any keyword: in Settings › Keywords, wth for weather replaces it: wth lisboa then Tab gives the Weather chip, and weather no longer does. Copperlight types your word wherever it would type the keyword's. Reset brings the keyword's own word back, and Reset All every one.

  • Translate names its languages in your Mac's language.

Changed

  • Your words in [keywords] now replace the keyword's own word instead of working beside it. If you had translate = "t" and want translate to keep working too, write translate = ["translate", "t"]. : and :! still keep theirs.

Fixed

  • The clipboard history opened empty since v0.12, while your copies kept being saved: it shows everything again (#1). Thanks to the first person to report an issue!

  • Your to-dos: Settings › Options › To-dos › Add to-dos to picks Reminders, Things, TickTick or Todoist.
    • Reminders: pick the list new to-dos go in. Microsoft To Do's lists are there once your Outlook account is in System Settings › Internet Accounts, with Reminders on.
    • Things: add todo adds to it, and due lists its Today list. Enter completes one there.
    • TickTick: add todo adds the title, without its date.
    • Todoist: paste your key once. It stays in your Mac's keychain. add todo adds to Todoist; in due, Enter on Show lists what's due, and Enter completes one. Copperlight asks Todoist only when you press Enter.
  • Nothing changes until you pick one: Apple's apps stay the default.
  • Privacy: PRIVACY.md and copperlight.app/privacy list api.todoist.com, when it's asked, and what it's sent.

Things, TickTick and Todoist are new here. If one doesn't work with your copy, open an issue.

New

  • Free time: free tomorrow (or free friday, free next week) lists the gaps in your calendar within your working hours, a line a day, ready to paste into an email.
  • Your month: month shows the month as a grid, a dot under each day for each of its events.
  • Before a call: camera shows you, mirrored. With a call about to start, Enter joins it.
  • Latest screenshots and downloads: screenshots and downloads list your newest ones. Enter pastes the file into the app you were in.
  • Wi-Fi password: wifi password shows the password of your network, with a QR code a guest's phone can join from. macOS asks for your password first.
  • Codes from Messages: codes lists the verification codes you got in the last 15 minutes. Enter copies one. It needs Full Disk Access.
  • Wikipedia: wiki lisbon shows the article's picture and first sentences on a card.
  • Synonyms: synonyms happy lists words from your Mac's thesaurus, under each sense.
  • Test data: fake name, fake email, fake phone, fake address, fake company and fake iban. Tab makes another, for passwords and UUIDs too.
  • Links without tracking: a link you copy loses its utm_…, fbclid and the like.
  • Clipboard:
    • Pin the items you reuse.
    • Paste several in the order you copied them: Tab on the first, Paste in Order from Here, then the hotkey and Enter for each.
  • Finder and dialogs:
    • Over Finder, the files you selected wait on top of the launcher.
    • Over an Open or Save dialog, Enter on a file or folder takes the dialog there.
  • On a file: Tab offers Quick Look, AirDrop, Send in Messages and Send in Mail. :look readme opens Quick Look too.
  • CSS units: 2rem in px.
  • Settings › Options: each feature's own settings:
    • which calendars and reminder lists count;
    • how early the next meeting shows, and your working hours;
    • what Enter does on a person;
    • °C or °F;
    • your cities for time;
    • how a picked color is copied;
    • the sound a pomodoro or a timer ends with.
  • Privacy: PRIVACY.md and copperlight.app/privacy list every server Copperlight contacts, every permission it can ask for, and every file it keeps.

Fixed

  • With the preview open, a selected row no longer runs past the card's edges when the app you're in has a long name. What Tab does steps aside first, then the words, and the title stays.

New

  • Settings for everything. Copperlight bends to you now:
    • Settings › Features turns any feature off, from the calculator to Homebrew installs. Off means off: no rows,
no commands, nothing in the background, nothing sent, no permission asked for.
    • Settings › Launcher sets what the empty launcher shows (the next meeting or the whole day, what's running,
reminders that are due, the apps you open around this time), what it learns from you, with a Forget button for
each, and whether answers take their own shape or stay plain rows.
    • Settings › Keywords gives any keyword words of your own, beside the built-in ones: t for translate,
w for weather, even ; for : (;left, ;quit).
    • Settings › General › Look trades copper for your Mac's accent color, or any color you pick.
Every setting is a line in config.toml too.
  • Your week. week shows the whole week across the card, a column a day, each day's events with their times,
today's date in your accent. next week shows the one after. Enter opens Calendar.

Smoother

  • It moves like it should. The launcher springs open, its card comes out of the field and glides to its rows and
answers, and the selection glides from row to row. The rows themselves change at once, so typing never waits. With
Reduce Motion on (System Settings › Accessibility › Display), it changes in place and only fades in.
  • The weather and a stock show their card at once, with the place or the ticker, and fill it in when the answer
comes, instead of nothing until then.

Faster

  • A keystroke's rows show within a frame: 2 to 11 ms, down from 50 to 65. They no longer wait for file search,
whose rows join at the bottom when they come.
  • The first ⌥ Space after launch is as quick as the rest.
  • Typos forgiven. From 4 letters, a letter wrong, extra or two swapped still finds it: slcak finds Slack,
calender Calendar, xcdoe Xcode. A slip always ranks under a real match.
  • Lighter at rest. The clipboard is looked at every 2 seconds instead of twice a second once you've been away
from the keyboard and mouse for a minute, so your Mac sleeps more.

Fixed

  • Settings could open with its panes pushed out of sight and a "This change can't be saved" notice at the top,
since 0.11: the Weather city field, empty, was taken for a change. An empty field is no value now, and a notice
never pushes the window's content away again.

Install

Download Copperlight.zip, unzip it and move Copperlight to Applications. The first time you open it, macOS asks
you to confirm it once. Updating: quit Copperlight and replace the app; your settings and permissions stay.

New

  • Answers in their own shape. Most results are still rows. An answer that reads better big now takes the whole
card, laid out for what it is:
    • Stocks (stock aapl, then Tab): the price and today's change big, the week's chart across the card with
yesterday's close dashed, the previous close and the 7-day change under it.
    • Weather (weather, then Tab): now, the next seven hours and five days, each day's low and high on one scale.
    • People (contact ana, then Tab): their card on the left, with their photo when Contacts has one, and every way
      to reach them beside it.
    • Dictionary (define serendipity): the word in a serif with its pronunciation, its meanings and examples,
      and where it comes from.
    • Calculator (150 + 20%): what you typed = the answer, big, with what a percentage hid ("20% of 150 is 30").
    • Currency (25 usd to eur): what you had → what it makes, big and centered, both flags faintly behind.
    • The next meeting, in the empty launcher: who's coming and a line of its notes, with Join right under it.
    • Speed test (speed): the card shows at once, and download and upload climb as they're measured. Esc stops it.
    • QR codes (qr): the code big, beside Copy Picture, Save to Downloads and Copy Link.
    • Colors (#c87533): a band with how the color reads on white and black, its shades, and a step lighter and
      darker.
  • Weather. weather, then Tab: where you are, or weather lisbon for any city. The first time, a row asks for
Location Services, once. If you'd rather not share your location, set a city in Settings › General › Weather.
°F and mph if your Mac uses US units. Enter opens the Weather app.
  • Live currency rates. Rates refresh every 5 minutes when you open the launcher, and the band says how fresh they
are. Crypto converts too: 0.1 btc in eur.

Privacy

  • Weather goes to Open-Meteo (free, no account, no key) only in the Weather chip, once you pause typing. It sends
the city you typed, or where you are rounded to about a kilometer. Answers are kept for 10 minutes. Typing alone
    never sends anything.
  • Currency rates now come from Coinbase's public rates. Every currency arrives in one request, so it never learns
    which one you convert.

Install

Download Copperlight.zip, unzip it and move Copperlight to Applications. The first time you open it, macOS asks
you to confirm it once. Updating: quit Copperlight and replace the app; your settings and permissions stay. Weather
asks for Location Services the first time you use it.

New

  • It learns your abbreviations. What you pick for what you type comes first the next time you type it: pick
Slack after ss once or twice, and ss is Slack. No setup, kept on your Mac.
  • Tab on a file, an app or a clipboard item shows what you can do with it, with its preview beside the list; Esc
    goes back.
    • A file: open it, open it with another app, reveal it, copy its path or the file itself, open its folder in your
terminal, move it to the Trash.
    • An app: its recent documents first (Enter opens one in it), then open, hide, quit, force quit, relaunch, reveal
      or copy its path.
    • A clipboard item: copy it without pasting, open its link, Large Type, a QR code; for a picture, open it in
Preview or save it to Downloads.
  • Speed test. speed: your download and upload speed and latency, with macOS's own networkQuality, about 20
seconds after Enter. Typing speed sends nothing.
  • Keep awake for a while. :awake 2h, :awake 90 min, :awake until 18:00: the Mac stays awake, then lets go by
itself. The time left ticks in the empty launcher.
  • Your colors. colors lists the colors you picked with pick color, newest first, each with its swatch.
  • Install an app you don't have. With Homebrew installed, type an app you don't have and its row offers to
install it ("Install Figma"). Enter runs brew install --cask, with its output beside the row; then Enter opens it.
  • Bluetooth. :connect airpods: your paired devices. Enter connects one, or disconnects it if it's connected.
The first time, Enter on Allow asks for Bluetooth; typing never does.

New

  • Contacts. Type a name: Enter messages them. Tab goes into the person: message, call, FaceTime, WhatsApp (when
it's installed), email or copy their number, with their card beside the list. Read on your Mac, kept in memory.
  • Browser tabs. Typing finds the tabs already open in Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, Arc and Safari; Enter switches
to the tab instead of opening the page again. tabs ⇥ lists them all. Each browser asks once.
  • Text from the screen. copy text: drag over anything (a video, a picture, an error you can't select) and its
text is copied, read on your Mac. A link in a QR code there comes back in the launcher, Enter opening it.
  • Waiting when you open it: reminders that are overdue or due soon (Enter completes them), and the apps you
usually open at this time of day.
  • Processes. cpu and memory: what's using the processor or memory, the busiest first, with each one's app icon.
Enter ends a process, or quits an app, after asking. cpu chrome narrows them; Tab lists them all.
  • Spelling. spell definately → definitely, and the other guesses; a sentence comes back corrected.
  • Large Type. large 555-0100: the text across the screen; large alone shows what you copied.
  • Calculator phrases: 20% off 80, 30 is what % of 150, 10k * 3. Tab puts a result back in the field, to keep
    going.
  • Script filters. A script with @output rows lists what it prints for what you type, and Enter opens or copies
    the row you pick.
  • Colors. Type #c87533, rgb(200, 117, 51) or hsl(27, 59%, 49%) and get the other two notations, each row
with the color's swatch; Tab shows it big, Enter copies. pick color opens macOS's magnifier: click anywhere and its
hex is copied, and the launcher comes back with it.
  • QR codes. qr https://… (or qr ⇥, the QR Code chip) shows the code beside the list; qr alone makes one of
what you copied. Enter copies the picture. Made on your Mac.
  • Date math. days until christmas, weeks since jan 1, in 3 weeks, 3 days ago, dec 25 + 2 weeks,
monday in 3 weeks, time in 4 hours. A date alone (dec 25, next friday) shows its weekday, how far it is and
its week. Before you finish typing, in 3 already answers in days, weeks, months and hours.
  • {cursor} in snippets: where the cursor ends up once the snippet is pasted.

Changed

  • Currency reads math in front of it: 39*8 usd.

New

  • What's running, waiting when you open it. A running pomodoro, timer or stopwatch is a row in the empty
launcher, its time ticking in a copper pill. Enter stops it, after asking. A meeting about to start stays on top,
    so Enter still joins.
  • A stopwatch. stopwatch starts one, counting up in the menu bar; stopwatch again, or a click in the menu
bar, stops it and tells you the time.
  • Timers until a time. timer until 15:30 standup, timer at 3pm.

Changed

  • pomo no longer offers another pomodoro while one is running: it offers to stop it, or a break. pomo 50 still
    replaces it, after asking.
  • The time left on Stop Pomodoro and Stop Timer ticks, like the menu bar's.

New

  • Your next call, waiting. From 10 minutes before a meeting with a Meet, Zoom, Teams or Webex link, it's already
there when you open Copperlight: press Enter to join. Settings › General › Calendar can show all of today's events
    instead.
  • Events that stand out. meetings, agenda or events list the rest of today, with a copper badge on what
starts within the hour ("in 17 min") or is going ("Now"). Tab shows an event's details: its notes, place, call
    link and who's coming.
  • As many notes as you like. note ⇥ lists them all, last edited first, with a preview; type to find the one
that says it. Each note is titled by its first line, new note starts one, and :delete note moves one to the
Trash. Typing a word from a note anywhere finds it too.
  • Markdown in notes. Headings, bold, lists, links and checkboxes you click, styled as you type. The file stays
plain text, and Settings › General › Notes turns it off.
  • File actions. :open with, :terminal (Terminal, or the app you pick in Settings › Files) and :trash on a
    file or folder.
  • More Mac commands. :quit all, :quit others, :unhide all, :show desktop, :screen saver, :open trash,
    :log out and :mute mic.
  • Shortcuts with input. Text after :shortcut name goes to the Shortcut.

Changed

  • The preview beside the list opens with Tab in the general search, so the list keeps its full width. Clipboard
history, chips and command output still open with it.
