Configgy 1.0.0
Configgy 1.0 is a rebuild focused on one question: can this lose or leak something?
Install
brew install --cask rocavence/tap/configgyOr download Configgy-1.0.0.zip below, unzip it, and drag Configgy into Applications. It's self-signed, so the first launch needs right-click → Open (Homebrew handles that for you). If you're updating from 0.3, Full Disk Access carries over.
Secrets never reach the cloud
- Zen and Claude Code now copy an explicit allowlist of settings files instead of "everything except".
- One filter blocks logins, tokens, keys, cookies, saved passwords, session history and virtual environments for every target. Custom folders get default excludes you can edit.
- Existing backups are scanned. Any that still hold secret files are listed so you can remove those files (keeping the rest) or delete the backup.
Backups you can trust
- Every zip is built and tested locally, then moved into the cloud folder under a temporary name, so there's never a half-written backup.
- Retention counts per Mac: 10 per target by default, and another Mac's backups are never deleted.
- A missing or unwritable backup folder is reported, never silently replaced with a local one.
- Every backup and restore is logged to
~/Library/Logs/Configgy/configgy.log.
Restores that don't lose data
- See every file that will change before anything is written. The current versions are saved as a "before restore" copy first, and that copy is checked.
- Custom folders only ever write inside their own paths. Paths are stored relative to your home folder, so restoring on a Mac with a different user name works.
- Restore just some Zen workspaces, or everything. Zen is never closed without asking.
A clearer app
- One sentence at the top says whether your settings are backed up and what to do if not.
- New settings window (General, Backup, Exclusions, About), a first-run guide, six languages (繁體中文, English, 日本語, 한국어, Español, Português), and a daily check for new versions.
- About 14 MB of memory while it sits in the menu bar.
The command line (Configgy backup, restore, scan, …) is still built in; see the README.
Configgy 0.3.1
- Built against the macOS 27 SDK — the window now picks up the current system window style. Still runs on macOS 14+.
Self-signed personal build — right-click → Open the first time, then grant Full Disk Access.
Configgy 0.3.0
A big UI release — the app is now one cohesive window with a real light theme.
New
- Unified window with capsule tabs: 已備份保護 / Protected and 建議加入 / Suggestions.
- In-window Settings (gear → page, ✕ to close): Theme (System / Light / Dark), Enlarge UI, Launch at Login, Backup Location, About. Menubar slimmed to Open / About / Quit.
- Appearance-aware palette — a legible, Finder-like Light theme alongside a deep Dark mode; tabs, buttons and rows adapt and re-resolve on appearance change.
- Live row feedback — hover highlight, a green flowing-light progress bar on backup (orange on restore) with a "✓ Done" flash, and a crumble animation on removal.
- Adopt on open — scans the backup folder so targets already backed up (e.g. on another Mac) reappear ready to restore.
Fixed
- Zen backup no longer closes your browser when you click Cancel; backing up Zen now offers Cancel / Back up on quit / Back up now, with a second confirmation before quitting.
- Overlay scrollers no longer clip a row's rounded corner; window titlebar blends seamlessly.
Self-signed personal build — right-click → Open the first time, then grant Full Disk Access.
Configgy 0.1.5
Native, richer UI — and Zen is now opt-in.
New
- Native icon-list windows for scanning and for backup/restore — clean rows with each app's real icon (config files without an app use the Terminal icon).
- Rich per-target window: clicking Back Up or Restore opens one window with an app-icon header, snapshot history, and Back Up Now / Restore Selected actions with live status.
- Zen is opt-in — only Claude is on by default. Enable Zen from Scan for Configs… (it's the first suggestion); its menu items and auto-backup appear once enabled. Configgy now also launches fine on Macs without Zen.
- Scan/Remove picker starts unchecked with a Select All / Deselect All button (top-right).
Install

Configgy 0.1.4
Bug fix.
- Menu now updates live — newly added/scanned targets and language changes appear immediately, without restarting the app. (NSStatusItem ignored menu reassignment from within a menu action; now a single persistent menu is repopulated on every open.)
Install
Open the .dmg, drag Configgy to Applications. Self-signed → right-click → Open the first time, then grant Full Disk Access (the app guides you) for backups.

Configgy 0.1.3
Bug fix + wider config discovery.
- Fix: scanning/adding a backup target no longer requires Full Disk Access. Defining a target only writes to the app's own folder, so without FDA the scan used to bounce to the permission guide and nothing could be added. FDA is still needed only for the actual backup.
- Scan for Configs… now also finds Motrix, Mole, Otty, Subler, Upscayl, and Gamely (each a separate target); Mac Mouse Fix includes its helper prefs.
Install
Open the .dmg, drag Configgy to Applications. Self-signed → right-click → Open the first time, then grant Full Disk Access (the app guides you) for backups to reach your Dropbox/iCloud/Drive folder.

Configgy 0.1.2
UX polish for custom & discovered targets.
- Added/discovered configs now appear as flat, individually-clickable menu items ("Back Up " / "Restore …"), just like Zen and Claude — no more hover submenu. Each still backs up to its own versioned zip.
- Scan for Configs… now lists menubar/utility apps individually (MonitorControl, Moom, IINA, Input Source Pro, Rectangle, Mac Mouse Fix) instead of one bundled entry — only the ones actually installed show up.
- Removing a target is now a "Remove a Target…" multi-select chooser.
Install

Configgy 0.1.1
Generalizes Configgy into a full config-backup tool, plus i18n and quality-of-life.
New
- Custom & discovered targets — back up any files/folders as versioned, absolute-path-preserving snapshots. Scan for Configs… auto-discovers common sync-less config (shell, git,
~/.ssh/config, Zed, VS Code, terminals, Karabiner, Hammerspoon, gh, and menubar-utility prefs). Secret-free by default (SSH keys &gh hosts.ymlexcluded). - Claude target is now versioned (history + rollback), matching Zen.
- Diff preview before every restore — see what changes; old files are backed up first.
- Backup location chooser — Dropbox / iCloud Drive / Google Drive / custom folder (menu → Backup Location…); prompts on launch if none is found.
- English / 中文 UI (follows system; switchable in the menu). Bilingual README.
- Launch at Login toggle (off by default).
- About opens the Releases page.
Install
- Open the
.dmg, drag Configgy to Applications. - Self-signed personal tool → Gatekeeper warns; right-click → Open the first time.
- Grant Full Disk Access (the app guides you) so it can reach the backup folder.

Configgy 0.1.0
First release of Configgy — a macOS menubar app that backs up & restores your local config across devices.
What's in it
- Zen Browser — auto-backup on quit (versioned zips, keeps 10), restore across devices, restore specific workspaces, self-restoring
restore.shin each zip. - Claude Code — versioned snapshots of
~/.claude(+~/.agents/skills) with history & rollback; restore reinstalls plugins/marketplaces. - Custom & discovered targets — back up any files/folders, or auto-discover common sync-less config (shell, git, ssh config, Zed, VS Code, terminals, Karabiner, Hammerspoon, menubar-utility prefs). Secret-free by default.
- Diff preview before every restore — see what changes, old files are backed up first.
- All backups land in
Dropbox/Apps/Configgy/.
Install
- Open the
.dmg, drag Configgy to Applications. - It's a personal tool signed with a self-signed cert, so Gatekeeper will warn — right-click the app → Open the first time.
- Grant Full Disk Access (System Settings → Privacy & Security) so it can reach the Dropbox folder — the app guides you on first launch.
