HauntTrace 0.1.0
A pixel-art guardian ghost that watches your Windows PC for bad spirits: programs that hog the CPU, gobble memory, crash and come back, or linger for hours. Everything runs on your own computer.
Download
- HauntTrace_0.1.0_x64-setup.exe: per-user installer, no admin needed.
- HauntTrace_0.1.0_x64-portable.zip: unzip and run
HauntTrace.exe; writes nothing to the registry. - SHA256SUMS.txt: checksums for both.
Windows 10/11 x64. The installer is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info → Run anyway.
What it does
- Five deterministic rules: sustained CPU (Poltergeist), repeated spikes (Banshee), memory growth (Glutton), restart loops (Revenant), lingering activity (Lingerer).
- Tells you who a spirit really is from its digital signature and version info. Unknown never means malware.
- Sweep the house shows the busiest programs right now; the haunt meter tracks total CPU and memory.
- Lantern: a bounded, read-only investigation by a local Gemma model through Ollama, with every finding linked to evidence.
- You decide: Befriend, Shoo for 1 hour, or Banish (with confirmation). HauntTrace never ends or changes anything by itself.
- Optional voice: Windows (offline) or ElevenLabs (your key, stored in Windows Credential Manager).
Optional: local AI
Install Ollama, then ollama pull gemma4:e2b-it-qat. Without it, alerts, identity and evidence still work.
No telemetry. No cloud model fallback.
