Agent Settings
Agent Settings, under Configuration in the left-hand menu, is for administrators. It is where the RSJ Agent gets onto your computers and where Courier is switched on for them. It has three tabs: Deploy, Devices and Courier module. One RSJ Agent serves Courier and the RSJ products beside it, so a computer that already runs Groundskeeper or Caretaker already has it.
- Connection secret. Every enrolled computer presents this secret, and it belongs to Courier alone. You can show it, hide it and rotate it. Rotating it means every computer enrolled with the old one must be enrolled again.
- Deploy the RSJ Agent. Type the server's name as your computers reach it and choose Download deploy script. Run the script from an elevated PowerShell on a computer, or add it as a Group Policy computer startup script for many; the page lists the steps. It downloads the RSJ Agent from your Courier server, checks it is exactly the build the server holds, installs it and enrols it. The script contains the connection secret, so keep it private and delete it when the computers are done.
- Find computers in Active Directory. Run AD discovery searches the directory with the read-only account saved under Message Settings -> Directory (only your OUs if you limited Courier to them; computers not signed in for 30 days are left out).
The Registered list is the computers that have the RSJ Agent and have checked in: who is signed in, whether Courier is installed, when each was last seen and whether it is online. Send a notice sits beside each, and Reset machine key gives a rebuilt computer a new key at its next check-in. A search box, a page size and Refresh help with a long list.
The other lists are what discovery found that has no RSJ Agent yet: Unregistered, Unreachable (a push could not reach it, with the reason) and Excluded (left out on purpose; Restore puts it back). Tick computers and choose Deploy selected to push the RSJ Agent over WinRM, with a Windows administrator account and password typed for that one push, which Courier never saves or logs. WinRM is off by default on Windows 10 and 11, so for those use the script.
A computer shows notices only once it has the Courier module. Tick computers and choose Enable on selected (or Enable on all enrolled computers). The computer collects the module at its next check-in, about a minute later, and shows Installed. The agent's other modules are not touched. Remove Courier takes it off again.
