Modernize build & sample app flows

Highlights

  • Upgraded Gradle/AGP/Kotlin and refreshed AndroidX, Retrofit, RxJava3, OkHttp/Okio, Dagger, and LeakCanary versions.
  • Replaced Kotlin synthetics with ViewBinding in the sample app.
  • Updated the sample app's PATCH endpoint to match Postman Echo.
  • Added safe RxJava error handling to prevent crashes on HTTP errors.
  • Migrated file download/upload to MediaStore + SAF so it works on Android 10+ without storage permission prompts.

Notes

  • Android Studio warns about the manifest package attribute being ignored; it can be removed later.
  • Java 21 builds show source/target 8 warnings; optional to add toolchain or suppress.
