v2.2.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 07:41
  • Everything new since your version. Right after an update, the news window lists what every version since the one you had brings, newest first under its number (from 2.1 straight to 2.2.1: both), and no longer stops at twenty items.
  • Saved backdrop styles. The editor's sidebar starts with "Estilos guardados" and a +, as CleanShot X's Presets: + keeps the backdrop on screen (kind, colour, margin, inset, shadow, corners, alignment and proportion) and the menu brings any of the last eight back in one click, or removes one.
  • Backdrop sliders at full speed. While a slider is dragged, the editor no longer paints the background and the shadow under the card that covers them, keeps the capture's rounded corners when they move less than a pixel, and stretches smooth backgrounds the fast way: on a Full HD capture a repaint while dragging Margen went from about 80 ms to under 20, and Inserción, Sombra and Esquinas stay around 12 ms. Released, it is drawn at full quality, pixel for pixel the same.
  • Scrolling captures keep their length. With smooth scrolling (4.2 rows a frame at 125 %), the fraction of a row left over is carried to the next frame instead of lost on every one.
  • Fixes. Chopper and Kero-chan say their own lines for those who had Reno or León; Shift+wheel reaches the last section chip; a part of a page that fails to build is left out whole, never as a caption without its card; removing one of your pictures keeps the saved styles pointing at the right ones.
  • Nothing drawn while you are away. After ten minutes without keyboard or mouse, the napping desktop mascot and the main window's mascot stop redrawing and only check, twice a second, for your return; on a screen that never switches off this saves what the nap cost all night (about 7 % of a core). The first move wakes them as before.
Novedades en español
  • Estilos guardados.

v2.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 20 Oct 00:15
  • Backdrops in a sidebar, CleanShot X style. The editor's Fondo button (B) opens a sidebar instead of a strip: Ninguno, the gradients in a grid (Ver menos folds them to one row), Fondos de pantalla (the desktop's wallpaper, your own pictures and a button to add one; right-click one of yours to remove it), Desenfocado (the capture itself blurred, as it is, darker or lighter), Color liso (two rows of colours and a picker for any other), then Margen, Inserción with Auto-equilibrar, Sombra, Esquinas, a 3 × 3 Alineación and a Proporción menu. The inset is a border in the capture's own edge colour; Auto-equilibrar evens out the capture's own uneven margins. The shadow is now a slider (50 is the shadow as it was) and alignment puts the capture against those edges of the frame. The preview and the saved image use the same reading of the capture, so they match; videos keep gradients, pictures and plain colours. Everything is remembered, and the main window's Fondo page shows it.

  • Drag it out from the bottom bar. The editor's bottom strip has an "Arrástrame" handle in the middle, as in CleanShot X: drag it to a chat, an email or another app.

  • Ajustar antes de capturar (off by default). After choosing an area, it stays on screen with a live preview to move and resize before capturing (Capturar or Enter); captures work exactly as before while it is off.

  • Sharper text everywhere. Text in every window, menu and the Home mode bar is drawn with ClearType at whole pixels; the area picker's hint is sharp too, with each key in its own colour.

  • XML search goes to each match. In the XML viewer the search moves through every match in the whole document (Enter, Shift+Enter, F3), with a count, and only filters the tree when you ask; the scroll thumb no longer vanishes on huge files after Expandir todo. Opening or closing a node in a document of hundreds of thousands of lines no longer walks the whole tree.

  • No more freezes for an instant. Settings, editor saves and the log are written in the background, clipboard waits are shorter, temporary files are swept off the interface thread, and a watchdog notes in the log any moment the interface stops for more than 300 ms with what it was doing.

  • Lighter in the background. The desktop mascot redraws less while walking, behind other windows or out of sight; brushes, icon pens, fonts and the logo are made once; thumbnails are converted off the interface thread.

  • A shorter mascot menu. Only what is used: Capturas, Accesos rápidos, Notas y concentración, Bienestar, then Cambiarme de ropa, Abrir Stackshot and Vete a casa.

  • Fixes. Pasting right after capturing removes the card also when done very fast; the pet no longer dashes when it walks; the scrolling capture matches rows to a fraction of a pixel; Reno and León wear their redrawn bodies; a failing part of the mascot page no longer leaves the rest blank; disabled controls show no hand; a save that cannot open its target leaves no temporary file.

  • Thumbnails that step aside. After a while unused (5 s by default; General > Al capturar > "Esconder las miniaturas": no, 3, 5 or 10 s), the stack slides into the left edge of its monitor until only a sliver of each card shows, with a tab saying how many there are. Running the pointer along the slivers brings out the card under it (its neighbours peek a little), like a dock; the tab, the wheel or a new capture bring them all out. Brought out only to look, they go back 1.5 s after the pointer leaves. Each card is cut at its monitor's edge, so it works on every monitor, and a tucked stack follows the mouse to another monitor still tucked.

  • Colour picker and ruler. While choosing an area, C shows a loupe of the pixels under the pointer with their #RRGGBB; a click or Enter copies it. Dragging with Shift measures instead of selecting: length, width and height in screen pixels, snapping level or plumb.

  • Capture with a timer. "Capturar con temporizador" (tray, the mascot's menu and an optional shortcut in Atajos): choose the area, and after a 3, 5 or 10 s countdown (General > Al capturar) it is captured as it is then, menus and tooltips included. Esc cancels; the desktop mascot counts along.

  • Join two captures. Drop a thumbnail on another one: they become one image, one under the other (side by side when they are taller than wide), and the originals stay. Over a video or GIF it says "Solo imágenes".

  • The mascot through the day. With "Según la hora del día" (on by default): a coffee now and then in the morning, a nightcap and yawns late at night, a little party on Friday afternoons, a word on very busy days and a camera flash at each capture.

  • Five more characters. Stitch, Kirby, Grogu, Eevee and Charmander, each with its own build and trick: going wild with extra arms, inhaling and puffing up, lifting a stone with the Force, a starry roll and a burst of flame. Pikachu gets its own build too (black-tipped ears, lightning tail, red cheeks) and a Thunderbolt.

  • Six more Pokemon. Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, Snorlax, Gengar and Mew, each with its own build: the bulb and spots, the shell and curly tail, the forehead curl, the cream belly and sleepy eyes, the spiky back and white grin, the long tail with its round tip. BMO, Doraemon and Totoro are redrawn truer to the originals; Goku and Vegeta are gone.

  • Twenty-four more characters. More Pokemon (Psyduck, Togepi, Meowth, Piplup, Mimikyu, Lucario, Dragonite, Ditto, Mewtwo), Ghibli spirits (No-Face, Calcifer, a kodama), game icons (Yoshi, Pac-Man, a Creeper, an Among Us crewmate, Blinky, a Dragon Quest slime) and classic cuties (Snoopy, Hello Kitty, Baby Groot, Rilakkuma, Pusheen, Pochacco), each with its own shape, eyes and mouth. Gengar gets its sly red eyes.

  • Classic game characters. Pac-Man chomping with Pinky, Inky and Clyde, a Space Invaders crab in pixels, Goomba, Boo, Toad, the Super Mushroom and the green 1-Up, the ? block, Bob-omb, Chain Chomp, Red and the green pig, the Knight, the companion cube, Bomberman, the Pooka, a Fall Guy, the Minecraft pig, a Metroid and Waddle Dee. Mewtwo, Dragonite and Pusheen get round tail tips, and Snoopy's collar wraps round him.

  • Tricks and lines for the classic game characters. Pac-Man eats a row of dots and a power pellet and a frightened ghost runs off; the ghosts turn blue and flash white; Boo hides its face (also when the pointer comes close) and then pops out; Bob-omb flashes red and goes off in a harmless puff; Chain Chomp lunges; the Creeper hisses, swells, flashes white and pops; Red is launched as from the slingshot; the ? block bumps and a coin pops out. Most characters now say their own lines now and then. Every character gets a crisp ink outline, and Pac-Man, Boo, Chain Chomp and the crewmate turn to face the way they walk.

  • Kirby redrawn and the crewmate vents. Kirby is a true ball in its own pink, with its eyes close together, its blush, stubby arms against its sides and red oval feet. Sent home, the crewmate drops into a vent that opens at its feet, as in its game.

  • Klei characters in their own style. Wilson and Willow from Don't Starve Together and two Oxygen Not Included duplicants, drawn like the games: thick hand-inked lines, flat muted colours with hatching, a big head on a small body in its clothes. They sit at the end of the character picker.

  • Characters done properly. Each one has its own eyes (iris colour or all dark, pupil, eyelid line, catchlights lit from the top left like the body), tails trail behind the walk and stay on that side when it stops, little feet step while walking, and the character picker groups them by series with each series' name.

  • Saving a recording shows in the stack. When a recording stops, a card where its thumbnail will appear says it is being saved, with a spinner or the percentage of the final pass, and gives way to the thumbnail.

  • Dragons. Toothless, the Light Fury, Stormfly, Hookfang and Meatlug (How to Train Your Dragon) join the characters as five new kinds with their own build (ear plates and the red prosthetic tail fin, spiked crest and nose horn, horns and clawed wings, buzzing little wings and a club tail), dragon eyes with slit pupils and a power of their own in the mascot's menu and among its tricks: plasma blasts, vanishing, tail spines, magnesium fire, setting itself on fire, or eating a rock and spitting lava.

  • A living logo. While the main window is open, a glint crosses the sidebar logo now and then, and again when the pointer comes over it.

  • Scrolling capture for first-timers. The first three times, a card beside the bar shows how it works; "¿No baja? Pulsa Auto" when nothing moves; Listo with nothing scrolled asks once more; the bar tells how many screens it has and what each button does.

  • Automatic saves stay quiet. With "Guardar todas las capturas", the thumbnail shows it is saved without the "Guardada" flash, kept for the Guardar button.

  • Notes on the desktop. A note from "Apunta algo…" can be pinned on the desktop ("Guardar y fijar", or the pin next to each recent note): a small card in yellow, blue, green or pink that stays on top (or not), can be locked in place, ticks its - [ ] items straight into Notas.md and comes back after a restart. Cards are left out of captures. While writing a note, Enter continues a list or a task list.

  • Windows that stay on screen and move from anywhere. A window that grows after opening (Mis reportes → Nuevo reporte, the news) stays inside the screen instead of running past the bottom, and windows like the report form, the news, quick links and the alerts can be dragged from any empty spot.

  • A live marquee. The ants around "capturamos" in the Minimalista and Escena homes keep marching while the mouse is over them, like a selection; the minim...

@github-actions github-actions released this 12 Oct 22:02
  • Find any setting. A "Buscar ajustes" field at the top of the main window's sidebar (Ctrl+F, except on Historial, where it searches the history) finds every row of every section as you type, ignoring accents and case, with every word in any order and the usual synonyms ("micro" finds the microphone, "modo oscuro" finds Tema, "atajo" finds the keys). Results are grouped by section with their icon, description and place ("General › Al capturar"); the arrow keys and Enter open one, which scrolls to the row and makes it glow for a moment; Esc goes back. The index is built from the real pages, so it never falls behind them. The long General and Grabación pages start with a strip of chips, one per group, that scroll to it and stay pinned under the toolbar showing where you are.
  • Historial: find a capture by what it said. A new Historial section lists every capture, video and GIF (temporary and saved, the dated subfolders included) by day, with thumbnails, filters (Todo, Capturas, Vídeos, GIF) and a search that looks in their names and, for images, in their text: Stackshot reads each capture with the OCR built into Windows, on the computer, in the background (paused while you capture or record), and keeps the text in a compressed index in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Stackshot\historial (the newest 5,000 captures). Matches are highlighted in a snippet of what the capture said. General > Recientes > "Buscar por el texto de las capturas" turns the reading off and deletes the index; "Borrar el índice de texto" empties it. Texts of deleted captures leave the index, also when the temporary captures are swept.
  • The mouse pointer in captures (optional). General > Al capturar > "Incluir el puntero" draws the pointer, as it was when the capture started, into area, screen and window captures (never into text or scrolling captures), at its real size on each monitor. Off by default.
  • File names and folders your way. General > Capturas guardadas > "Nombre de los archivos" builds the name of each image from {tipo}, {fecha}, {hora}, {app}, {ventana}, {año}, {mes}, {dia} and {n} (a number that never repeats), with clickable chips, a live example and a reset link; characters Windows doesn't allow are replaced and the default gives exactly the old names. "Subcarpetas" keeps what you save in one folder per month (2026-10) or per year and month (2026\10): saved captures, recordings and exports go to the month they were taken in, and Recientes, the tray, Historial and the folder size see them all. Videos and GIFs keep their names.
  • Repeat the last area. A new action captures the same area again without choosing it: in the tray ("Repetir área"), in Atajos (no shortcut by default) and from the command line. If a monitor it touched has changed, the usual picker opens instead.
  • Sensitive data, covered when you decide. The editor has a new "Datos sensibles" button (Ctrl+Shift+X) that finds DNI, NIE, Social Security numbers, IBAN, card numbers, e-mail addresses and phone numbers in the image and covers each one with a redaction mark you can remove; it checks their control digits so invoice numbers, amounts, dates and a company's contribution account are left alone. General > Datos sensibles > "Tapar los datos sensibles al capturar" (off by default) does it on every capture before it is shown: the thumbnail says "Revisando datos…" for a moment (about 0.4 s at 1080p), and the clipboard, the file, the thumbnail and the file name (when it includes the window title) only ever get the covered image. The uncovered original stays in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Stackshot\originales while the capture exists, so the editor can still remove a cover. Everything is read on the computer.
  • Pause a recording. The recording bar has Pausar/Reanudar (also in the tray and from the command line), in every quality: what happens during a pause is not in the file, sound and image stay in sync after any number of pauses, the sound fades for 10 ms at each resume so the cut doesn't click, and the elapsed time stops. A Cine report says how many pauses there were.
  • Clicks and keys in recordings (optional). Grabación > "Clics y teclas": "Mostrar los clics" draws a ring where you click (blue left, orange right) and "Mostrar las teclas pulsadas" shows shortcuts such as "Ctrl + C" or "Win + Mayús + S" at the bottom of the video. Typing is never shown, so passwords don't end up in the video. Both are off by default, and the keyboard and mouse are only watched while a recording with one of them on is running.
  • Test the microphone. "Probar micrófono" on the Grabación page and a "Nivel de entrada" meter in the options before recording show the live level of the chosen microphone, warn when it clips ("Saturando") and say when there is no microphone or Windows doesn't allow it. The meter only runs while it is on screen and never during a recording.
  • A GIF of a piece. In the player, after marking a piece with E and S, G (or the GIF button, or Más opciones > "Exportar GIF del tramo") makes a GIF of it at the GIF speed set in Grabación, up to 960 px wide, with progress and Esc to cancel; pieces longer than 30 s ask first.
  • XML viewer for web services. SOAP messages get a bar with the operation, the file's time and size, an OK or "Fault" chip with the fault's code and message, and buttons for the XML before and after in the folder. "Comparar con el XML anterior de la carpeta" or "Comparar con otro archivo…" shows the differences in the tree (changed, added, removed; only the differences if you like; F7 and Shift+F7 go through them), ignoring whitespace, attribute order and namespace prefixes; two 5 MB messages compare in well under a second. Right-clicking a node copies its value, an attribute's value or the branch as JSON. A field holding a file in base64 can be opened (PDF, images, Office, XML, text) or saved; programs, scripts, shortcuts, ZIP files and Office files with macros are only saved, never opened, and every attachment handed to another program or saved is marked as coming from the Internet, so Office opens it in Protected View. Attachments are deleted with the temporary captures.
  • Markdown: pictures, PDF, outline and spreadsheet tables. Pasting or dropping a picture into a saved document stores it in an imagenes folder next to it and inserts the link (an unsaved document asks to be saved first); the preview, the HTML export and the PDF show the pictures. Pictures on other computers or on the web are never loaded just by opening a document. Más opciones > "Exportar PDF…" writes A4 pages with real, selectable text, embedded fonts, page numbers and bookmarks (100 pages in a few seconds). The "Índice" button opens a side panel with the H1–H3 headings that jumps to each one and follows where you are. Pasting cells from Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets inserts a Markdown table (Ctrl+Shift+V pastes plain text). <br> is now a line break in the preview and the exports.
  • Command line. Stackshot.exe --capture <mode> (region, repeat, screen, window, scroll, text, video, gif, markdown or pause), --open-home and --last-xml do what their shortcut or tray entry does, in the running copy if there is one: made for keypad buttons (Logitech MX Keypad) and scripts. See docs/it-policies.md.
  • Settings for IT departments. Values under HKLM or HKCU\SOFTWARE\Policies\Stackshot fix the save folder, turn off update checks or automatic updates, the mascot or the text index, or force covering sensitive data on or off. Forced rows show "Lo decide tu organización" and can't be changed, and the user's own choices are kept for when the policy goes. Details in docs/it-policies.md.
  • Stackshot's own notices. The Windows balloons from the tray icon are replaced by small cards in Stackshot's style, light or dark, with an icon per kind, an action button where it helps ("Elegir otros atajos", "Abrir la carpeta", "Abrir el XML") and a close button. They never take the focus, stay out of captures and screen sharing, keep clear of the thumbnails, the tray panel and the recording bar, stay 8 s (longer while the mouse is on them) and wait while a full-screen app, a presentation or quiet time is on. Screen readers announce them.
  • Accessibility. Every control Stackshot draws itself now tells screen readers (Narrator, NVDA) its name, role and state: switches, segmented controls, buttons, links, sliders, menus, the XML tree and comparison, the tray panel, the thumbnails and the editor and player bars. Every control in the main window, the Markdown/XML viewer, the alerts and the options before recording can be reached with Tab and used with Space, Enter and the arrow keys, with a clear focus ring that only appears when you use the keyboard; focus stays on the same control when a page rebuilds.
  • Easier to read. Secondary text in light mode is darker (it now reaches 4.5:1 on every background, as do hints and counts at 3:1), the accent blue is slightly deeper so white text on it is readable, and links have their own color. With a Windows contrast theme (Settings > Accessibility > Contrast themes) every Stackshot surface follows the theme's colors, without translucency and with states that don't rely on color alone; it switches live. Captures and exports look exactly as before.
  • More fixes from a review of all of the above. Quitting while a capture is being checked for sensitive data no longer loses it, and very slow checks no longer freeze the thumbnails; a picture saved from an XML attachment in the editor goes to your save folder instead of the temporary attachments folder; the history no longer keeps the text of captures that were deleted, swept or covered, and turning the search o...

v2.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 09 Oct 11:37

A complete visual redesign in the spirit of CleanShot X and macOS, with the same features. The interface now draws with WPF, which ships with Windows, so building still needs nothing but the C# compiler bundled with .NET Framework 4.8.

  • One design system. A single palette for light and dark (macOS system colors), one set of line icons in the SF Symbols style, the same radii, shadows and type everywhere. New setting: General > Apariencia (as Windows, light or dark); everything switches live.
  • Main window like macOS System Settings. Mica glass behind a translucent sidebar with colored icons, rounded groups with hairlines, native-feeling switches, segmented controls and buttons, a toolbar that shows the section name when the page scrolls under it, and smooth page transitions. Home has a calm hero with the mascot and one primary action; the mascot page shows live previews of every style, character and piece of clothing.
  • Home your way. Three views of the main page, switchable from the page itself or General > Apariencia and remembered: Minimalista (the mascot, one question and a bar with every capture mode, plus the latest captures), Widgets (today at a glance: the last capture with Copiar / Editar / Guardar, captures per day, the mascot, every mode, recording, the folder's size and a tip) and Escena (the mascot on stage beside the modes, recent captures below). Only the chosen view is built.
  • Faster, cleaner area picker. No magnifier and no full-screen crosshair; each move recomposes the changed area from the frozen screen in one go (1.6 ms on average while dragging at 1080p), so no lines are ever left behind.
  • All-in-one capture (optional). General > Al capturar > Modo todo en uno: after selecting, the area stays with handles to move and resize it (arrow keys move it, Ctrl+arrows resize it) and a bar to choose Capturar, Vídeo, GIF or Desplazar; Enter or a double click captures.
  • Home comes alive. Each view enters with a short staggered fade when the window opens, then stays fully idle. In Minimalista a blue pill slides from mode to mode under the pointer; in Escena the blurred backdrop fades out softly at the bottom instead of ending in an edge; in Widgets the cards that do something lift gently on hover. Click the mascot's name in any view to rename it in place (up to 16 characters, empty brings back Pixel) and it answers "¡Ahora me llamo…!". Home keeps itself current: a capture taken while it is open appears once saved, reopening the window shows anything new, and the recording state updates as soon as a recording ends.
  • A new sidebar card. On the other pages the mascot stands on a pool of light in its own color, with its name, level and a thin friendship meter. On Home and the mascot page, where it is already big, the card is a capture button drawn as a selection marquee, with the status and a record button below.
  • Mascot page as a fitting room. The mascot stands center stage under a soft glow in its color, with its name, species and personality, Sorpréndeme and Ajustes. Below it, a macOS-style dock: tabs with a sliding indicator (Mis looks, Estilos, Personajes, Especie, Color, Gorro, Ropa, Cara), tiles that magnify with their neighbours under the pointer, smooth wheel scrolling, shimmer placeholders while previews load, and a search field that finds any piece by name across every tab. Hover a tile to try it on, click to wear it: the mascot bounces in a burst of sparkles while the glow crossfades to the new color. Star a tile to keep it first; Mis looks holds saved looks and everything starred. Rename, friendship, personality and the desktop switch are still one click away.
  • Tray menu like macOS. Clicking the tray icon (left or right) opens a rounded panel instead of the Windows context menu: the logo and the app's status, every capture mode with its shortcut as keycaps, the four latest captures to open with a click, then Abrir Stackshot, Abrir capturas guardadas, Cerrar todas las miniaturas, Ajustes and Salir. The highlight glides between rows, the arrow keys and Enter work, and Esc or a click anywhere else closes it. It follows the theme, never appears in captures, opens in a few milliseconds and drops the thumbnail strip on screens too small for it. A capture chosen from it starts about 0.3 s after the click.
  • Updates find you. Stackshot looks for a new version 30 seconds after starting, every 3 hours and when the computer wakes up or comes back online (backing off after failures). Each version is announced once, in a small notice at the bottom right: "¿Quieres descargarla?" with Descargar e instalar, still verified (SHA-256 and signature) before it installs. New setting General > Instalar actualizaciones automáticamente (off by default): updates download in the background and install at a quiet moment; a dropped download is retried quietly, and an automatic install that fails is offered by hand once instead of being retried. An install never cuts a recording or scrolling capture short: it waits until it is saved. MSI installs only notify. Acerca de shows every state (searching, up to date, downloading, ready, error).
  • Recording page as widgets. Quality as four cards with bars for sharpness, smoothness and size; sound tiles for the computer and the microphone, each with its device; the camera's shape, size and device with a live preview of where the bubble goes; GIF speed and the video engine.
  • Choose what is recorded. The computer sound can come from a specific output (speakers, headphones, a dock...), as the microphone already could; a device that is unplugged falls back to Windows' default and comes back when plugged in again. Device pickers are new menus in the app's style.
  • External cameras work. The camera can now be chosen; names with accents, duplicated names and cameras that only offer MJPEG or high resolutions open correctly (each camera is probed once for a suitable mode); a camera that fails is skipped for the next one, and one that drops out mid-recording is reconnected.
  • Editor. Options follow the tool or the selected mark (sizes for text and numbers, only colors for the highlighter), a zoom capsule (−, %, +, Ajustar), macOS-style tooltips with the shortcut as a keycap, animated hover and press, a compact toolbar on narrow screens, handles exactly on the corners, and the canvas repaints six times faster while drawing (4.5 ms instead of 28).
  • A quiet recording frame. The red border is now a fine translucent white line with white corner marks, and it fades out as soon as a video or GIF recording stops, while the bar goes on showing Guardando….
  • Much lighter. With the main window open and idle, CPU use drops from about 14% of a core to 1.6%: only the mascot's own layer is redrawn, and only as often as it moves. The window is prepared quietly a few seconds after startup, so it opens in about a quarter of a second.
  • Quick Access thumbnails. Rounded captures with a real soft shadow; on hover the image blurs and dims behind Copiar and Guardar, with round buttons in the corners (close, pin or open, edit, show in folder) that name themselves on hover.
  • Annotate window like CleanShot. The toolbar is the title bar, tools are centered with the selected one tinted, colors are circles, the main action is the blue button, the capture floats on a neutral surround, and the video timeline has QuickTime-style yellow trim handles.
  • Capture overlays. The area picker has a softer dim, a fine white edge, a round magnifier with a pixel grid and the size in a dark pill; recording and scrolling capture use dark floating capsules with real shadows; pinned captures are rounded with a shadow; menus follow the theme.
  • Welcome and FFmpeg download are new Mica windows.
  • Fix. Each pinned capture's menu keeps its own fonts, so opening one no longer spoils the text of another.
  • Fix. Trimming a video so that only removed parts remain now shows a message instead of exporting nothing silently.
  • Fix. The mascot's efficiency mode now also applies to the UI thread, so the window no longer competes with other apps for CPU when idle.
  • Fix. The mascot's keep-on-top no longer covers Stackshot's own windows or other apps' menus, tooltips and popups.
  • Instant home pill. In Minimalista the blue pill now appears under the pointer without lag.
  • View selector moved to General. The choice of home view lives in General > Apariencia only.
  • Smoother auto scroll. Scrolling capture advances with steadier pacing and fewer skipped frames.
  • Markdown viewer. Open .md files in a rendered window (headings, lists, tables, code, quotes), with validation and a Tidy action.
  • XML viewer, selectable Markdown, open with Stackshot. .xml files open in a colored, collapsible, searchable tree (with Formatear, Compactar, XPath and copy as image); the Markdown preview text can be selected and copied; and .md and .xml files can be opened with Stackshot from Explorer (optional, Windows keeps the final choice), in the running copy when there is one.
  • Mascot settings. Commands, accessories, styles and behaviour (energy, chatter, what it does alone, dozing off) are configurable from Ajustes de la mascota.
  • Crisper text. Text is drawn sharper across the app.
  • Recording waits for devices. The bar shows Preparando… until the audio devices and camera are ready, so a recording never starts with silence or a missing camera.
  • Crisper text. Editors, floating surfaces and bubbles now render text at the display's pixel grid.
  • Markdown paths from IDEs. Image paths copied from IDEs resolve against the open document, and the Markdown editor is tinted to match the theme.
  • Mascot plays on its own and roams across every monitor.
  • Command grid menu for quick access to every command.
  • Recents and temporary captures. New settings: show or hide recent captures and ho...

  • Zoom in the editor. Ctrl + mouse wheel zooms around the pointer, the wheel scrolls, the middle button drags, and Ctrl+0 / Ctrl+1 / Ctrl++ / Ctrl+- fit, show at 100% and zoom. Tall scrolling captures open fitted to the width and scrolled to the top, so they can be read right away.
  • Save as PDF. A new PDF button (Ctrl+P) in the editor saves the result with its marks and backdrop; long captures are split into A4-width pages, cutting between lines of text, and stay lossless so they can be zoomed.
  • Print Screen just works. Assigning Print Screen to a shortcut now takes it back from the Windows 11 Snipping Tool automatically (current user only) and applies the change right away where Windows allows it.
  • No more black band. The main window always paints its real size, which could differ from the design size after a DPI or monitor change and left a black strip at the bottom and right.
  • New logo in the README banner.
  • Clearer updates. A new version without an update signature now offers its download page ("Ver la versión") instead of an install that can only fail.
  • Local release signing. tools/sign-release.ps1 signs a published release on the maintainer's computer and uploads only the signature, so the private key never goes to GitHub.

v1.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Oct 22:54
  • A mascot you can make your own. Twelve species (robot, cat, bunny, ghost, slime, dragon, dog, chibi, penguin, panda, fox and frog), 23 colors, 5 eye styles, 43 hats and hairstyles, 36 outfits and 19 face accessories, all previewed live on the mascot. One-click styles (Halloween, Chulo, Cute, Vampiro, Dragoncito) and a random "Sorpréndeme". Seasonal costumes for Halloween and Christmas.
  • Characters: fan tributes. 38 one-click costumes (Finn, Jake, BMO, Pakkun, Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, Edward Elric, Eren Jaeger, Levi, Luffy, Zoro, Goku, Vegeta, Tanjiro, Nezuko, Gojo, Gon, Killua, Hisoka, Saitama, Shin-chan, Pikachu, Doraemon, Totoro, Kratos, Doom Slayer, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Batman, Superman, Flash, Claude, Codex, a knight, an astronaut, a wise wizard and a superhero; hovering one shows where it comes from) built from new pieces: six new characters (dog, chibi, penguin, panda, fox and frog), hair styles, helmets, a bear hood, a ninja headband, a straw hat, capes, vests, armor, a space suit, beards and a blindfold. Drawn from scratch in the mascot's style with no logos or emblems; see the note in the README.
  • The desktop mascot explores. It remembers where it stood across restarts and sign-ins. It hops onto the window in front of you, walks along its top edge and rides along when you move it; dropped over a window it lands there, and it falls back to the taskbar when the window closes. "Vete a casa" now waves goodbye and walks off the screen. One click opens its menu, quick extra clicks tickle it (four make it dizzy), right-click opens the menu right away, and its bubble and menu are never cut off at the screen edges.
  • README media. A promotional video, a tour of the real main window, the mascot reel and a character sheet, all rendered offscreen by toolsmake-reel.ps1 with a new high-quality GIF encoder.
  • Small comforts. Double-clicking the tray icon opens the main window, restored and in front. The mascot's speech bubble always points at it: above its head (leaving room for hats), below it when the head is scrolled out of view, or as a plain note at the top when the mascot is not visible.
  • Your own backgrounds. Add any image as a presentation backdrop from "Fondo y editor"; it is copied into Stackshot (up to 4K) and appears next to the gradients, also in the editor.
  • Quick profiles. Performance, Balanced or Complete set the launch animation, the desktop mascot, greetings and video quality in one click.
  • Friendship levels. Every capture adds a point; new levels unlock the crown, the halo, the Galaxia color and, at the top level, Oro.
  • Personality. Cheerful, calm or cheeky: it changes what the mascot says, how much it moves and when it naps. It now fidgets, looks around and yawns before falling asleep. New tricks: a little dance with music notes and a pirouette with sparkles; it breathes softly while idle.
  • Mascot on the desktop (optional). It wanders above the taskbar, follows the mouse with its eyes, naps when you are away and can be dragged anywhere. It hides during full-screen apps and is never captured or shared on screen.
  • Comic menu on the desktop mascot. Click it and a comic-style speech bubble offers what it can do: capture, record, open your captures, change clothes, a trick, a nap, open Stackshot or go home.
  • Video editor with trimming and export options. "Editar" on a recording opens a timeline with a frame strip: drag the yellow handles to trim the start and the end, click the strip to see any moment, then add marks, crop and a backdrop as before. Export at 1×, 1.5× or 2× speed, at the original size, 1080p or 720p, and as MP4 or GIF.
  • Camera bubble. Optionally show your webcam in a round or square bubble in a corner of the recording, Loom style. Drag it anywhere; double-click switches the shape and right-click the size.
  • Higher video quality. "Alta" records at 60 fps with much more detail and saves instantly; "Máxima" records at 60 fps losslessly and encodes at very high quality once you stop, so text stays as sharp as on screen.
  • Cleaner, more Apple-like home. A calm hero with one primary action, quieter tiles and layered cards; the sidebar widget is now a proper capture card with its own button. The editor, thumbnails and recording bars now share the same macOS graphite palette and blue accent, and the welcome window uses grouped cards and key caps.
  • In-app updates. Stackshot checks GitHub once a day (can be turned off) and updates in one click. Every update is verified with its SHA-256 and a signature before it runs. MSI installs only get a notice.
  • New "Tapar" tool (X) in the editor: a solid block that really removes what is underneath, safer than pixelation for sensitive data. Pixelation now uses larger blocks.
  • New logo and launch animation.
  • Smoother. The mascot page repaints only what changes and renders its previews in the background (about five times faster), the speech bubble no longer gets stuck or covers text when clicked repeatedly, and the desktop mascot no longer hides itself in normal use. Dragging the desktop mascot now follows the mouse instantly, animations run at real 32 and 64 fps instead of being rounded down by the system timer, and the main window, area picker and desktop mascot copy and clear only what changed.
  • Hardening. Updates refuse a signed build whose version does not match the release (no rollback to an older build), helper programs start from their full system path, camera names cannot break out of the FFmpeg command, and videos opened in the editor only accept real video formats.
  • Security and housekeeping. The installer no longer removes the download mark explicitly, the log rotates at 1 MB, screenshots are never sent to the cloud clipboard, FFmpeg is only taken from the verified download or an explicit choice, and code comments are now in English.

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Oct 14:55
  • MSI package for organizations. Every release now includes Stackshot.msi for Intune, Configuration Manager or msiexec. It installs per user without administrator rights, with STARTWITHWINDOWS and LAUNCHAPP options. Upgrades keep the user's settings and close and reopen Stackshot automatically, without a restart. Uninstalling removes the application and its data, and existing installations made with Stackshot.exe are adopted without duplicate entries.
  • Graceful shutdown on request. Stackshot now closes cleanly when Windows Installer, the Restart Manager or a sign-out asks it to, and keeps the clipboard contents.
