0.5.0
Media Hub 0.5.0 makes the gallery feel like a real photo app, on desktop and phones.
Full-screen viewer. Selecting a file now opens it full screen, growing out of its thumbnail. Swipe or use the arrow keys to move between files; the next and previous pictures are already loaded, so changes feel instant. Pinch, double-tap or use the mouse wheel to zoom, drag down or press Escape to close, and tap the picture to hide the controls. File details open in a side drawer on desktop and a bottom sheet on phones. Videos and audio keep their native controls and stop when you move away.
Smoother grid. Large images are shrunk to small cached copies stored on your device (not in your vault), so scrolling stays smooth. Cards that did not change are kept when you filter or refresh, thumbnails fade in, and editing notes no longer redraws the gallery. Formats your device cannot decode use the original file.
Cleaner code. The plugin is now organized into backend and frontend folders with small, focused files, and has more automated tests. Your tags, descriptions, collections and settings are unchanged.
Phone gestures are tested in a browser preview but still need verification on physical devices. Requires Obsidian 1.7.2+. Licensed under GPL-3.0-only.
Updates
- Full-screen viewer with swipe, pinch, double-tap zoom and drag-down to close.
- Animated open and close from the thumbnail; details drawer or bottom sheet.
- Cached thumbnails and card reuse for a smoother grid.
- Backend and frontend code split with new tests.
0.4.0
Media Hub 0.4.0 improves selection, video previews, personalization, and Android saving.
Switching media-type tabs now clears checkbox selection and closes the preview. Select all becomes Deselect all when all matching files are checked. The sidebar’s All media entry resets the type, folder, tag, and search filters.
Video cards display an early thumbnail frame when the codec is supported, without autoplay. Unsupported videos retain an icon fallback. Gallery settings now includes crop/fit, compact spacing, filename visibility, card-detail visibility, video thumbnails, and the default sort order for new views.
Android downloads now read bytes using Obsidian’s vault API and write them in chunks to a new folder under Documents/Media Hub. This avoids relying on native paths for vaults backed by content URIs. The download dialog shows progress, preserves error messages, times out unresponsive native calls, and verifies output size. The native bridge has an additional compatibility fallback. Automated tests pass; physical Android verification is still needed. Originals stay in the vault, with no ZIP and no Share button.
Requires Obsidian 1.7.2+. Licensed under GPL-3.0-only.
Updates
- Tab switching overrides selection; Select all/Deselect all toggle.
- Video thumbnails with codec fallback and a settings toggle.
- Six additional personalization controls.
- Android vault-byte exports with chunked writes, progress, verification, and actionable errors.
0.3.2
Media Hub 0.3.2 adds direct Android saves and improves navigation with checked media.
Download on Android now copies the selected original files into a new folder inside Documents/Media Hub, rather than relying on browser download links. The dialog reports the exact destination and any failed files. Each download creates a new folder; duplicate names receive numbered suffixes. Older Android versions may ask for storage permission. If Obsidian does not expose the required native file bridge, the dialog reports that saving is unavailable.
The Share button and all sharing behavior have been removed. Desktop downloads still save individual original files, with no ZIP archive. Vault originals remain unchanged. This Android path has automated tests with a mocked native bridge; physical-device verification is still needed.
Preview navigation now accepts left/right keys while checkboxes have focus, keeps arrow-button focus, and avoids scrolling the preview again on every previous/next action. Checked files remain selected while browsing.
Requires Obsidian 1.7.2+. Licensed under GPL-3.0-only.
Updates
- Direct Android copies to Documents/Media Hub with destination and failure reporting.
- Remove Share button and native sharing calls.
- Improve checked-media preview navigation and focus handling.
- Add permission, duplicate-name, partial-failure, and navigation regression tests.
0.3.1
Media Hub 0.3.1 fixes filename saving and adds original-file downloads.
Editing File name and clicking Save details now applies the rename along with tags and description. Rename file and Enter remain available. Invalid names and collisions show an error without saving details to the wrong path.
Use Download in the selection toolbar or file preview to save copies on your device. Multiple files stay separate in their original formats—no ZIP archive. Use individual save buttons if your device blocks bulk downloads. Where supported, Share / Save to Files opens the native share sheet. Actual save destinations depend on the device; mobile functionality still requires device testing. Exports are prepared in memory and limited to 512 MB per selection.
Requires Obsidian 1.7.2+. Existing vault files are preserved by downloading. Licensed under GPL-3.0-only.
Updates
- Apply filename edits through Save details, preserving tags and descriptions.
- Download original media from previews or multiple selections without archives.
- Offer individual saves and supported native sharing.
- Add tests for original bytes, filenames, combined rename/save, and read failures.
0.3.0
Media Hub 0.3.0 adds tag chips, multiple selection, and collections.
Requires Obsidian 1.7.2 or newer. Licensed under GNU GPL v3.0 (GPL-3.0-only). The plugin ID remains vault-gallery, preserving existing tags, descriptions, and settings.
Type a tag and press Enter or comma to create a chip, choose an existing-tag suggestion, or remove a chip with ×. Click Save details to save inspector edits.
Check media cards, Shift-click to select a range, or use Select all to select every matching file. The selection toolbar offers Add tags, Add to collection, and Delete files. Create named collections from the sidebar or while adding files; a file can belong to several collections without moving or copying it.
Within a collection, Remove from collection leaves the original files and other memberships intact. Delete files shows the count and exact paths before using Obsidian’s configured trash handling. Files renamed or replaced after confirmation are skipped, and partial failures are reported.
Tags and collections remain local plugin metadata and do not appear in Obsidian’s native tag search.
Updates
- Tag chips with Enter/comma entry, removal, duplicate prevention, and existing-tag suggestions.
- Checkbox selection, Shift-click ranges, Select all, and bulk tags that preserve existing details.
- Named collections with multiple memberships and file/folder rename tracking.
- Separate collection removal and confirmed deletion through Obsidian’s trash API.
- Automated coverage for selection, chips, collection membership, cancellation, partial deletion failures, and save rollback.
0.2.0
Media Hub 0.2.0 adds media import and gallery settings.
Requires Obsidian 1.7.2 or newer. Licensed under GNU GPL v3.0 (GPL-3.0-only). The plugin ID remains vault-gallery, preserving existing tags and settings.
Use Add media to select one or more files. Files are copied into Media by default; choose an existing folder or enter a new vault-relative path in Settings → Media Hub or from the gallery gear button. Leave the path empty for the vault root. Existing media is not moved, and duplicate names receive numbered suffixes rather than replacing files.
Use the panel button beside the title to hide or show the folder pane. Your preference is remembered.
Updates
- Multi-file media import with progress and per-file failure reporting.
- Configurable import folder with nested folder creation and collision-safe filenames.
- Collapsible folder pane with saved visibility.
- Settings for import destination, thumbnail size, and pane visibility; searchable on Obsidian 1.13+.
