Couch 0.8.1
Fixed
- HOME opens Couch on Google TV. With the Couch: Home button service on, HOME on a Google TV device kept opening Google's home screen. Couch now replaces it, and only it: the Google TV profile chooser, which comes from the same app, still opens normally.
Pull requests: #16

Couch 0.8.0
Changed
- The Inputs button opens a Couch panel instead of Android's grey list. In the Index layout, Inputs now drops a panel right under the button: each input with its brand colour and icon, its port on the right, and the same gliding selection as the app list. Disconnected inputs are dimmed. Up and Down move, OK switches, Back closes and puts you back on the button. It opens on the input you picked last. The remote's own Input button is unchanged.
- The Index right column is quieter and the channel cards are bigger. The focused program now shows as text (channel, title, two lines of synopsis, resume progress) instead of art squeezed beside it, and the faint backdrop behind the column is gone. Channel cards are larger with their names underneath, an app without a channel shows its banner in the row's place, and the week reads as one total, when the app was last opened, and a bar per day.
Fixed
- The program's source line keeps up with a newly picked accent colour instead of the one in use when the screen was built.
- A week without use shows
0 mininstead of a dash.

Couch 0.5.0
New
- Permissions in Customize. A new group shows whether the HOME button, notification access, usage access and TV listings are on. OK on one that is off opens the TV's settings screen for it; on TVs without that screen, the help on the right gives the ADB command. The group sits at the top of Customize while something is missing, and near the bottom once everything is granted.
- Recent row. In the rows layout, with usage access, a row of the apps you opened in the last seven days, most recent first, up to eight. It sits below Apps until you move it, and can be hidden or moved in Customize → Rows.
- Switch to an input when its device turns on. When a console or player on an HDMI input turns on while the home screen shows, a "Switch to …" chip appears in the top bar. OK switches to it. The chip never moves focus by itself, goes away after 30 seconds, and stays quiet just after the TV wakes up. Hidden inputs never offer themselves.
Changed
- The Index selection glides. In the Index layout, the highlight and accent marker slide from app to app instead of jumping.
- Reordering glides. Moving an app in the apps row, or a row in Customize → Rows, slides the neighbouring item into its new place.
- Softer arrivals. The now-playing pill and the Update button fade in and out, and card art that loads after its card fades in over the title.
- Frame times on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max stay where they were (p90 7 ms, p99 10 ms over the same remote presses).
Under the hood
- All new motion animates translation or alpha only, so no frame runs a layout pass.

Couch 0.4.2
New
- Couch can be the real home app. Couch now registers as a home screen. On Fire TV and Android TV nothing changes: the built-in launcher keeps priority and Couch's HOME capture replaces it as before. Where no built-in launcher takes priority, Android asks once which home app to use. Where the built-in home screen is turned off, Couch opens directly on HOME and at boot, with no flash of the stock home and no accessibility service needed.
Under the hood
- The main activity declares the
HOMEandDEFAULTcategories.

Couch 0.4.1
New
- Fire TV apps get channels. On Fire TV, apps like Netflix post recommendations instead of Android TV channels. Couch now shows them as a "Suggestions" channel for each app, in both layouts and in Customize → App channels. It needs notification access, the same one as the now-playing pill (see the setup guide).
- Weather icons move. The sun's rays turn, clouds and mist drift, rain and snow fall, lightning flashes. They animate while the home screen is showing.
Changed
- Customize fits the layout. In Index, settings that only apply to the rows layout (card size, names under cards, descriptions, dim, rows, rearranging apps, the date) are hidden. The list updates as soon as you change the layout.
Fixed
- In Index, Left on the first card of a channel stayed put; it now returns to the app list, and so does Back.
Under the hood
- The weather icons are generated from Meteocons by
scripts/meteocons.ts; the APK is about 410 KB.

Couch 0.4.0
New
- Index layout. A second home screen: your apps as a list on the left, and on the right what the selected app offers (its first channel's show or film, with art, title and synopsis, then the whole channel as a row of cards). Turn it on in Customize → Appearance → Layout. Rows stays the default.
- Screen time in Index. For the selected app: how long you used it over the last seven days (with a bar per day), when you last opened it, and how often. Apps are ordered by screen time. This needs usage access, granted once over ADB:
adb shell appops set cloud.samlo.couch GET_USAGE_STATS allow(see the setup guide). Without it, Index keeps your app order and shows a hint instead. - The TV at a glance. Index's bottom line shows the TV's address and connection, network traffic, memory and storage use, time since restart, and whether ADB is on.
Changed
- New weather icons. The weather now uses colour Meteocons icons, in both layouts and in ambient mode.
Under the hood
- New permissions: usage access (ADB only) and network state.
- Hanken Grotesk (Latin subset, OFL) is bundled for the Index layout; the APK is about 340 KB.
- Debug builds install as
cloud.samlo.couch.dev, next to a release build.

Couch 0.3.1
New
- HOME opens Couch on Fire TV. Couch's HOME button service now also replaces Amazon's home screen, so a separate home-redirect app is no longer needed. Fire TV Settings stays open when you reach it from the quick menu (hold HOME). If you used a redirect app, turn its accessibility service off so only one app reacts to HOME. See the setup guide.
Known issues
- One Settings entry still sends you back to Couch. Opening Fire TV Settings through the launcher's own Settings shortcut (rather than the quick menu) lands on Couch.
