Setting up the server
<- Main Page | Running the program - Interface explained ->
You can find a download from their website: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server
Install the Ubuntu server onto a machine you are going to be using(works fine on virtual machines as well). Be sure to write down the admin username and password which you used to install the server with. NOTE While installing the server software you are going to be prompted with a package selection, you can use that to install openssh-server, however it is recommended to install it after updating and upgrading packages first. See next step.
Recommended: Since this is going to be your ADDC, you should chose to run security updates automatically!
After finishing the server install it is highly recommended to update and upgrade packages. Additionally there are two thing which are going to be needed. A package which enables ssh and the krb5-user package. If you have no preferences to ssh packages then the recommended way to go is the openssh-server package. Use the following lines to install packages (copy paste will work): Information regarding krb5-user prompts is provided below.
# If you run into troubles use apt-get instead of apt
# Feel free to skip openssh-server package, but you will need to provide some other package instead.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y &&
sudo apt install openssh-server krb5-user -yHonestly you can answer what ever you want to those prompts as long as its consistent as the script is going to be rewriting the answers anyways. What is important is that you answer them consistently, what this means is that if you answer the realm prompt with domain.net then the servers need to be server.domain.net. The realm does not need to contain a dot but the server string does need at least one dot separating the server name from the realm because of the way the java program works. For reference see below:

Essentially at this point the server is ready for interaction with the program. There are still a few things you might want to do.
- Find out local ip and netmask of the server, write them down or memorize them.
# Make sure you are looking at the correct interface and not loopback (Correct ip is not 127.0.0.1)
ifconfig- Find out the gateway of your server, write this down as well.
route-
Give your server a static IP lease. If you have access to the router which is providing the server with its current IP lease, you could set it a static IP lease, that way if a connection is interrupted for a longer period the IP does not get leased to another client and thus will avoid problems in the long run.
-
Optionally install packages which are going to be installed by the script, you will have more feedback and the script will work faster if you do this.
