Toki v1.1 — Distributed PoW Blockchain (Initial Stable Release)
This release marks the first stable and protocol-complete version of Toki, a peer-to-peer blockchain network written entirely in Rust.
Toki v1.1 focuses on correctness, determinism, and real P2P consensus, rather than UI or tooling. Multiple nodes can run, connect, mine, propagate blocks, and converge on a single chain without any central coordinator.
Key Features
Blockchain & Consensus
- Proof-of-Work consensus
- Dynamic difficulty adjustment based on block time
- Difficulty validation during chain verification
- Longest-chain fork resolution
- Deterministic block hashing
Transactions & State
- Ed25519-signed transactions
- Account-based state model
- Coinbase transactions with block rewards
- Shows transaction fees included in miner rewards
- Replay protection via transaction nonce
- Full state replay during chain validation
Networking
- libp2p-based peer-to-peer networking
- GossipSub propagation for transactions and blocks
- Multi-node local testing support
- Explicit peer dialing and connection handling
What This Release Proves
- Nodes can independently validate and mine blocks
- The network reaches consensus without trust
- State remains consistent across forks and reorgs
- Difficulty adjusts dynamically to network conditions
Known Limitations (Intentional)
- No disk persistence (in-memory chain only)
- Manual peer bootstrapping
- No CLI for sending transactions or querying balances
- No automatic startup chain sync
These are planned for future releases.
This release represents a minimal but real blockchain protocol designed for learning and experimentation.
Thanks for checking out, Toki
