The import views.html.index cannot be resolved

Hi,

My config is

activator : 1.2.3
Java to Scala Plugin: 1.2.0.v-2_10-201404011311-48c58ab
Java EE IDE: 2.0.2.20140224-0000
Play 2 Support: 0.4.3.v-2_10-201403271612-2a1df2b
Scala IDE : 3.0.3.v-2_10-201403271605-8d2c756

I am testing HelloWorld projects in Eclipse and getting following error in Application.java

1. The import views.html.index cannot be resolved
2. index cannot be resolved

I looked on web and many have faced this issue. Some suggested running the example through play console and then refresh the Eclipse project. I tried it without any success.

The code compiles and run fine in activator ui. Its the issue with Eclipse Scala IDE or Play plugin.

Did you try to access the application on the browser ? http://localhost:9000/
Play doesn't compile the templates until they are requested, so the equivalent Scala file is not available before that. You may need to refresh the project to see the new file.

I ran the application and accessed it on browser. It runs fine.

Refreshed the eclipse project after running application, compiled it. But still getting this issue.

Interesting thing is this issue is not coming in error console as error or warning.

I also checked the HellowWorld > target > scala-2.10 > classes/classes_managed > views > html folders. Both folders contain index.class and index$.class.

Been there.

My steps to reproduce is much easier. Every time a scala template is opened with New Template Editor or Template Editor, that error would appear in controllers. (don't need to make changes to templates)

My workaround to fix it:

1. activator clean eclipse
2. refresh the project in eclipse

Another workaround (to prevent the error):
Edit the scala templates with other editors, such as Text Editor. (I tried Html Editor recently, and the error occurs for it)

(Recompiling does take a long time for the project I'm working on.)

After some more tries here is my conclusion.

Opening a scala template will automatically add Scala Nature to the project according to #64, and adding Scala Nature to a Play 2 java project would cause the "index cannot be resolved" problem according to https://groups.google.com/d/msg/play-framework/NSG1u7d5Uo8/Mgs73lWuo6sJ.

Another and really Quick workaround ... the error can be fixed by removing the Scala Nature.

This worked perfectly, thanks.

EDIT: It keeps reappearing when reopening the project.
And removing the scala nature only works if you keep yourself of opening scala.html files

This should be fixed with Play 2.4 and sbt-eclipse plugin version 4.

What did they change? Wasn't the generated code on the classpath in earlier versions?

@sschaef It looks like sbt-eclipse prior version 4.0 was just broken. I don't know exactly what, but a lot of work has been put into 4.0 - and it's working now.

I had similar issue. I added /target/scala-2.1.1/classes into Libraries -> Add Class Folder to resolve this issue.
