@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Nov 00:26

aqueval chess 1.0.0 is the first release of aqueval chess, a UCI chess engine written in Rust. It uses legal bitboard move generation, a principal variation search with modern pruning, reductions and extensions, and an NNUE evaluation. Every search and evaluation feature was tested by SPRT before it was merged.

Strength: ~2980 Elo. This is an estimate against Stockfish 17 with UCI_Elo 2900 at 60+0.6 over 1000 games, not an official rating. The same run had no crashes, time losses or illegal moves.

Network: the bundled gen-0 net, (768 → 256)x2 → 1 SCReLU, is embedded in the binary. It was trained on 87.3 million positions from aqueval chess's own self-play, scored by aqueval chess's handcrafted-evaluation search, with aqueval chess's own trainer. No Stockfish, Leela or other external data, evaluations, networks or tablebases were used.

Platforms: Linux x86-64, Windows x86-64 and macOS on Apple Silicon. On x86-64, AVX2 is detected at run time; CPUs without it use scalar inference with identical results at about half the speed. All three builds produce the same bench signature, 953967. Add the binary to any UCI GUI, such as Cute Chess, Arena, En Croissant or BanksiaGUI. Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.

License: GPL-3.0-or-later, for the code and the network.
