More scanners in the catalog (experimental), an Arch Linux (AUR) package recipe and a Flatpak.

Install or upgrade

curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.3.0/silverfast-linux-0.3.0-x86_64.tar.gz
curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.3.0/SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf silverfast-linux-0.3.0-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/.local --strip-components=1
silverfast-linux install --accept-vendor-licenses

Flatpak and AUR: see packaging (not yet on Flathub or the AUR).

Own one of the experimental scanners? Please try it and report back with a New scanner issue.

Added

  • Experimental catalog entries for more Epson scanners that SilverFast 9
supports on Windows 10/11, generated from Epson's Windows drivers (not yet
confirmed with hardware; installed only when connected).
  • sfl-report.py --driver-ids and --draft-only: list the USB IDs a driver
package covers and build a catalog entry without the scanner attached.
  • Packaging: AUR packages (silverfast-linux, silverfast-linux-bin) and a
Flatpak (io.github.sepgh.silverfast_linux) built on Flathub's Wine, with
    a first-start setup dialog.

Changed

  • install does not write a desktop entry inside a Flatpak.
  • run refreshes the prefix's sti.dll when the installed one changed, so
upgrades no longer need a re-install for that.

Fixed

  • sti.dll no longer picks up native hardening flags from the build
environment (Flatpak/distro CFLAGS), which made it import libssp-0.dll
and stopped SilverFast from starting. The build now fails if sti.dll
imports anything Windows does not provide.

Tested

Epson Perfection V600 (reference scanner): prescan with the release build and from the Flatpak, firmware upload after power-on inside the Flatpak. The experimental entries are generated from Epson's drivers and not yet confirmed with hardware.

Scanner support is now data: a scanner catalog, tools to collect what's needed for a new scanner, and driver lookup.

Install or upgrade

curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.2.0/silverfast-linux-0.2.0-x86_64.tar.gz
curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.2.0/SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf silverfast-linux-0.2.0-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/.local --strip-components=1
silverfast-linux install --accept-vendor-licenses

New users: see the quick start. Want your scanner supported? See Adding a scanner.

Added

  • Scanner catalog (models/*.json): every scanner is a data file with its
USB ID, driver download, pinned SHA-256s, interpreter, firmware and registry
    values. Format: models/README.md.
  • silverfast-linux scanners: list the catalog and connected scanners.
  • silverfast-linux drivers: driver sources for a scanner — the catalog and
the Microsoft Update Catalog (searched by USB hardware ID); --download
    fetches an entry.
  • silverfast-linux report: scanner report for adding support (system, USB
descriptors, SANE, analysis of the vendor's Windows driver) ending with a
    draft catalog entry.
  • silverfast-linux try-scanner (experimental): try an unsupported scanner in
SilverFast with full USB logging and get a report with the session logs.
  • GitHub issue templates for new scanners and bugs;
    docs/adding-a-scanner.md.
  • install --scanner ID and run --scanner ID.

Changed

  • install sets up every supported model plus any connected catalog scanner.
  • silverfast-usbd takes --device, --name and --firmware and reads
endpoints from the USB descriptors; it no longer has a built-in model table.
  • udev generates rules for all catalog scanners (the static rules file is gone).
  • doctor checks each installed scanner.

Upgrading

Install the new release, then run silverfast-linux install --accept-vendor-licenses again (cached downloads, about two minutes).

Requirements

x86-64 Linux with glibc 2.34+, Wine 9 or newer, 7z, curl, python3, libusb-1.0. Supported scanner: Epson Perfection V600 (other scanners via the catalog as they are added).

First release: run SilverFast 9 (Windows build) on Linux through Wine and scan with an Epson Perfection V600, without a Windows VM.

Install

curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.1.0/silverfast-linux-0.1.0-x86_64.tar.gz
curl -LO https://github.com/sepgh/silverfast-linux/releases/download/v0.1.0/SHA256SUMS
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
tar -xzf silverfast-linux-0.1.0-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/.local --strip-components=1
silverfast-linux install --accept-vendor-licenses
silverfast-linux udev # once, for USB access
silverfast-linux run

Full instructions: README.

What's included

  • sti.dll: replacement for Wine's still-image layer, so SilverFast finds the scanner
  • silverfast-usbd: Linux USB helper (libusb) with automatic V600 firmware loading
  • silverfast-linux: installer and launcher (install, run, doctor, udev, uninstall)

No LaserSoft or Epson software is included; the installer downloads it from the vendors and verifies it. You need your own MySilverFast licence.

Requirements

  • x86-64 Linux, glibc 2.34+ (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 35 or newer)
  • Wine 9 or newer (Staging uses a Unix socket, regular Wine a token-protected loopback port)
  • 7z, curl, python3, libusb-1.0

Tested

Fedora 43, Wine 11 Staging, Epson V600: prescan and a 1600 dpi, 48-bit scan. CI: Ubuntu 24.04, Wine 9.
