Octopus 0.9.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Nov 10:07

What's new in 0.9.0

Coming back to Octopus

  • No more dark empty window when you return to Octopus after leaving it in the background or minimized: it
shows right away, as you left it.
  • Octopus keeps working while it's hidden, so what it does on its own (a Claude session's "waiting for you",
an extension's work) no longer stops after a few minutes in the background.

Sessions and extensions

  • Extensions can talk with the Claude sessions they open: send your next message, read the conversation as it
goes, resume one of their own, or open one in General, outside projects.

Extensions and web apps

  • An installed extension's details show how much space each of its sites takes on this Mac, with Clear cache
(you stay logged in) and Sign out.
  • Uninstalling an extension also clears its data and its sites' data, and what extensions removed earlier left
behind is listed under the installed ones, to clean up.

Notifications

  • Octopus's own notifications play the system's sound.

Under the hood

  • The database's temporary file stays small, and is emptied when Octopus starts and quits.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Octopus 0.8.4

Notifications

  • With Octopus in front you're still told about what isn't on screen: an extension's message while you're in
another section, a Claude session that finished or is asking something in a terminal you aren't looking at,
extension updates. A click on the notification opens that section or terminal. Only what's on screen stays
a message at the bottom right.
  • Away from Octopus, its messages come as the Mac's notifications.

Sessions

  • Claude and Shell also in any folder, outside projects: they show in Sessions with a General chip, come
back in their folder, and can be moved under a project.

Extensions

  • Extensions can make pages in a project's Notebooks and keep them up to date, and know when a page or a
    document they wrote was deleted.
  • An extension can let Claude use your plugins and MCP servers (permission claudeTools), as in a
session of your own; still no commands, no edits.

Notebooks

  • LogQL code blocks are highlighted, and code in a language the editor doesn't know shows as plain text
    instead of breaking the page.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Profiles

  • The status bar's corner says which Octopus you're in once you have profiles: the profile's name and the
project you're working in, in the profile's colour (a profile can set one). Click it to switch to another
profile or open one beside, or to manage them.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Extensions

  • Octopus comes with its own public marketplace,
    octopus-extensions-marketplace: it's
added the first time Octopus opens, with Calendar, Daily, Messaging, JSON Explorer and Pets to install in
one click. Remove it if you don't want it: it doesn't come back.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Profiles

  • Switch to a profile in the Octopus you're in, instead of opening it beside: Settings › Profiles › Switch,
or Profiles in the app menu, which lists Octopus and every profile installed, the one you're in checked.
The Octopus you're in closes and the profile takes its place. Its open terminals come back ready to resume
when you switch back. A profile that's open already just comes to the front.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Profiles

  • A profile is a company's or a team's Octopus: its parts, settings, marketplace and extensions. Install one
in Settings › Profiles, from a folder or from a marketplace that comes with one (Octopus offers it when you
add the marketplace). It opens as an Octopus of its own, beside yours, with its own projects, settings and
extensions, and its icon in the Dock. One installed from a marketplace follows it: a change there reaches
yours when the marketplace is updated.
  • A profile can leave out parts of Octopus (Git, Documentation, notebooks, All Tasks, Sessions, Mido, web
apps, writing extensions), choose settings' defaults and lock some of them, and come with marketplaces and
extensions, installed when it first opens.

Extensions

  • Extensions and the programs they run know which Octopus they're in, so the same extension can run in two
of them side by side without sharing its data or its port.

Workbench

  • Opening an Octopus that's open already brings that one to the front.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Extensions

  • Extensions can show the Mac's notifications (permission notifications): they come from Octopus, with
its icon, and a click on one brings Octopus forward on the extension, e.g. on the run that waits for you.
The first one asks you to allow Octopus's notifications.
  • Octopus looks for extensions' updates by itself, when it starts and every few hours: the Extensions
button counts them, each extension with one has a dot, and a new version is told once, with a button to
update it (or a notification while Octopus isn't in front). Update all in Installed takes them all.
Settings › Updates turns the automatic check off.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Extensions

  • Edit details… now works on an extension installed from a marketplace: changing its name, stage or
other details no longer asks you to "make it yours first". The change shows as modified, to publish, and
    an update keeps it.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Octopus 0.7.2

@github-actions github-actions released this 21 Oct 07:57

What's new in 0.7.2

Extensions

  • Extensions can run programs of their own on the Mac (helpers), such as a small local server their page
talks to: they start and stop them from their page, and Octopus stops them when the extension is turned
off or removed, and when it quits. You allow each program first, and again whenever it changes.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.

Sessions

  • A big window's terminal fills it: no frame of the window's colour around it any more.

Not notarized by Apple yet: the first time, open System Settings › Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Octopus.app.
