🎉 WayPlank v0.7.0 — Public Beta 1 is Officially Live!

Following 15 consecutive Alpha & Pre-Beta milestones (v0.1.0 → v0.6.2.3), over 112,000 lines of legacy X11/Autotools code purged, and 108 unique functional & architectural bugs squashed across 2,410 formal ISA-88 test executions, WayPlank officially enters the Public Beta Era!

🚀 Key Highlights of Public Beta 1 (v0.7.0)

  • 🌍 100% Automatic Monolithic In-Memory Localization Engine (GResource):
    • Complete 432 / 432 (100%) native string coverage across 8 languages compiled directly into the executable's RAM: Simplified Chinese (zh_CN), Italian (it), Spanish (es), French (fr), Catalan (ca), German (de), Ukrainian (uk), and native English (en).
    • Zero Host Pollution: 0 external files installed in /usr/share/locale/.
    • Zero Hardcoded Languages & Zero CLI Flags: BuildBin.sh dynamically discovers po/*.po catalogs and encodes them at compile time; wayplank automatically detects your OS locale (LANGUAGE / LC_ALL / LC_MESSAGES / LANG) at startup.
    • Single Point of Entry for Translators: All translations live in po/generate_translations.py.
  • 🌐 Multi-PWA Chrome Profile Isolation (Matcher.vala & MutterBackend.vala):
    • Distinct crx_* and --app-id=* Progressive Web Apps across separate --user-data-dir profiles are strictly isolated both at startup (/proc scan) and runtime (ResourceName / wm_class), preventing cross-icon running indicator bleed.
  • 🧩 GNOME Shell Companion Bridge version: 4:
    • Synchronized extension metadata (version: 4) with automatic hot-upgrade deployment.
  • 🧪 100% Multi-Compositor ISA-88 FAT Qualification (371 / 371 Passed, 0 Open Defects):
    • Verified 100% PASS across KDE Plasma 6 (KWin), GNOME Shell (Mutter), and Labwc (wlroots) (368 [ok] consolidated baseline + 3 [ko->ok] squashed in v0.7.0, 2 [NA]).

🗣️ Community-Driven Public Beta (v0.7.x Open Through Dec 31, 2026)

Please note that from November 2 to November 16, 2026, maintainer issue processing is paused (except for critical disaster-recovery hotfixes) while the maintainer completes upstream Linux kernel review cycles for yogafan. Full active development resumes on November 16, 2026 for the iterative v0.7.x Public Beta Series (v0.7.1 Beta 2, v0.7.2 Beta 3, ...), which will remain open until the community says we are ready for the v0.8.x feature freeze (up to December 31, 2026). Tell us what features, workflows, and languages you want to see in WayPlank!

  • 🪟 Universal Multi-Window Cards: High-performance Cairo floating previews on click with live thumbnails on KDE Plasma 6 and GNOME Mutter, plus sleek vector cards on Labwc.

  • 🎯 Dynamic Layer-Shell Input Mask & Click Passthrough (Issue #12): Solves pointer click-swallowing on overlapping windows behind the dock (e.g. Kate, VS Code) via an adaptive two-stage hysteresis flip-flop and a configurable Anticipate Icon Zoom (anticipate-zoom) toggle in Preferences.

  • 🪟 Option to Reserve Screen Space / Panel Mode (Issue #9): Configurable stationary dock panel mode in Preferences → Behaviour (reserve-space GSettings key) reserving exclusive screen space so maximized windows tile flush without overlapping, backed by Layer-Shell exclusive zones on KDE/Labwc and unconstrained physical-monitor-anchored (monGeo) synthetic struts on GNOME Mutter (with dynamic content-hashed ES module reload), plus automatic mutual exclusivity protection against Hide Dock and Icon Zoom.

  • ⛶ Fullscreen Auto-Hide & 0px Edge Click Passthrough (Issue #10): Automatic fullscreen window detection (FullscreenInhibit) across KDE Plasma 6, GNOME Mutter, and Labwc—including direct unmaximized-to-fullscreen transitions (e.g. Remmina remote desktop, QEMU, MPV, and browsers)—hiding the dock immediately across all Hide Modes (including Never / Always Visible and Panel Mode) and shrinking the Cairo input mask to { 0, 0, 0, 0 } so 100% of 0px screen-edge clicks pass directly through to the fullscreen taskbar without unhiding the dock. Includes the interactive FAT/Test Files/Testers/test_fullscreen.py verification suite.

  • 🖥️ Cross-Compositor Show Desktop Persistence (Issue #13): Keeps WayPlank visible and interactive on top of the desktop wallpaper when triggering Show Desktop (Super + D) across all 3 Tier-1 compositors: intercepts org.kde.KWin.showingDesktopChanged on KDE Plasma 6, sets hide_from_window_list() and hooks showing-desktop-changed in the GNOME Shell (Mutter) bridge, and gates intersection checks on t->active in Labwc (wlroots).

  • 🗂️ Workspace Switch Visibility on Labwc & GNOME Mutter (Issue #11): Prevents maximized or overlapping windows on inactive workspaces from keeping the dock hidden when switching to an empty workspace on Labwc (t->active && !t->minimized filter in wlr-toplevel-bridge.c) and GNOME Mutter (workspace-changed signal hook).

  • 🔍 Cold-Start HiDPI Fractional Scaling Synchronization (Issue #5): Connects notify["scale-factor"] in PositionManager.vala and tracks last_scale_factor to reset Cairo buffers and re-anchor dock geometry immediately when fractional scaling (1.25x, 1.5x, 2.0x) settles asynchronously on cold start.

  • 🖥️ QEMU Multi-VM Isolation, Labwc /proc Resolver & Exec-Less Template Guard (Issue #14): Instant detection for CLI virtual machines (qemu-system-*), automatic dedicated launcher synthesis (wayplank-app-*.desktop) restricted strictly to FreeDesktop Exec-less templates (matched_exec_less_desktop, preventing zenity transient dialogs from spawning dock icons), $O(1)$-cached /proc PID & cmdline resolution on Labwc, and automatic garbage collection (gc_synthetic_launchers()) for unpinned synthetic launchers.

  • 📦 Flatpak Delimiter Filter & Strict Matcher (PR #15): Full support for @@ forwarders, --command= target parsing, and elimination of cmdline substring false-positives (with @IFtiger-hu-hub).

  • 🔕 Do Not Disturb Docklet (docklet://dnd): Desktop notification muting adhering to FreeDesktop standards, featuring bidirectional D-Bus synchronization with GNOME Shell and KDE Plasma.

  • 🎛️ 4-Position System Menu Access: Configurable access modes in Preferences → Behaviour (Docklets Only, Docklets Only with Auto Fallback, All Icons Integrated, and Dedicated Preferences Icon on Dock) backed by universal Ctrl + Right Click recovery.

  • ⚖️ Symmetric 7×2 Docklets Grid (16 Built-In Docklets): Perfectly balanced 14-slot Preferences layout, relocating Anticipate Icon Zoom to Row 6 and Start on Login to Row 7, with Trash permanently anchored in the Appearance tab.

  • 🌍 7 Fully Qualified Language Catalogs (100% — 326/326 Strings): Complete translations for German (de), Ukrainian (uk), Simplified Chinese (zh_CN), Italian (it), Spanish (es), French (fr), and Catalan (ca), plus native English (en).

  • 🚀 DEB + RPM Packaging Parity & HAL Sync: Synchronized native binary packages (wayplank_0.6.2.3_amd64.deb and wayplank-0.6.2.3-1.x86_64.rpm) for Debian/Ubuntu and openSUSE/Fedora/RHEL, plus zero-latency multi-monitor Fn/DDC-CI brightness sync (BrightnessControl.vala).

  • 🏆 Historic Landmark — 107 Squashed Bugs & 100% Multi-Compositor FAT Sign-Off: Full 3-compositor qualification (KDE Plasma 6 / KWin, GNOME Shell / Mutter, and Labwc / wlroots) across 370 FAT test points (368/368 applicable passed: 324 [ok] baseline + 44 [ko->ok] squashed, 2 [NA], 0 open defects), reaching 107 unique squashed bugs across WayPlank's lifetime and 145 multi-compositor verification passes.

  • 🏛️ Official Closure of the Alpha & Pre-Beta Era (v0.1.0 → v0.6.2.3): With v0.6.2.3 100% qualified across all Tier-1 compositors, the Alpha & Pre-Beta foundation cycle is officially complete as we launch the Official Public Beta (v0.7.0) on Monday, November 2, 2026! 🚀
