## DarkShadow's Shell V3.60
The biggest update so far: niri support, a new Look & Feel page, a new tour and lots of fixes.
✨ New
- niri (alongside Hyprland) on Arch, CachyOS, Fedora and NixOS: the installer asks which one you want (
--wm=niri). Keys, borders, corners, animations, blur, monitors and your own binds are written from Settings - Settings > Desktop > Look & Feel: fastfetch with a live preview (logos, info, icons, wallpaper colors), pick your shell (fish, zsh, bash) and your terminal (kitty, foot, Alacritty, Ghostty, WezTerm, Konsole), all themed from your wallpaper
- Settings > System > Keybinds: every key worth knowing, with search
- New Material 3 tour: explains the Dynamic island and walks through Settings
- Settings > System > Screen: size, resolution and refresh rate (goes back by itself unless you press Keep)
- A clean start: only a big clock in the middle of the desktop
🛠 Fixes
- Videos and GIFs in Brave, Chrome and Discord work again (NVIDIA variables removed; log out once)
- Smoother on laptops: hybrid graphics no longer get a software cursor, widgets pause behind windows
- Touchpad: no more jumping back while scrolling, one swipe = one workspace
- No mouse cursor after installing without yay: Adwaita comes from the repos, Bibata downloads by itself
- niri: blur without pale bands, faster island, blurred overview, the shell's own notifications
- yay is optional: no more yes/no question (
--aur/--no-aur) - Power modes: power-profiles-daemon is installed and turned on
⬆️ Update
Already installed: rice-update (or the notification). New: see Install.

## V3.15 – Control & Tasks tabs, a brand new Dashboard tab
Two new tabs
- Control: switches (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do not disturb, Night light, Sound, Microphone, Stay awake, Airplane), volume and brightness sliders, power mode, screenshot and recording buttons, and lock / sleep / log out / restart / shut down
- Tasks: a focus timer that keeps running while the dashboard is closed, a to-do list you can type into, and a note (the same list and note as the desktop widgets)
- Both are switched on once by this update. Turn them on or off and reorder them in Settings → Dashboard → Tabs
- Keys 1–9 switch tabs
New Dashboard tab
A day board instead of the old layout:
- Big time with a day line (00–24) that fills while the day passes
- Weather and round quick switches
- The week you are in, today lit
- Music as a turning record
- Pulse: bars for CPU, GPU, RAM and disk, plus the battery
- Your first tasks, click to tick them
- The older cards (You, Clock, Calendar, Usage, Music) can still be added in edit mode
- An old saved Dashboard layout is reset once

V3.14 – Dashboard & Dock from any edge, Profiles, editable About
Dashboard
- Opens from any screen edge: Settings → Dashboard → Position (Bottom / Top / Left / Right)
- On the left/right it's a compact panel floating in the middle of the edge: tabs in a pill column on one side, cards next to it, with its own layouts for Dashboard, Performance and About (Reset restores them)
- Wallpapers scroll up and down in the side panel
- About tab is editable now: move, remove and add cards, resize them into empty spaces. New cards: Software (kernel, packages, WM, shell, Quickshell) and Session (uptime, display)
- Music card: in a narrow card the cover sits on top and the buttons stay inside
Dock
- Can sit on the bottom, top, left or right edge (a column on the sides)
- New Now playing text switch: song title and artist written in the dock
- The Settings page "Interface" is now called Dock
Notification center (Deck)
- Opens from any edge: Settings → Notifications → Side (Left / Right / Top / Bottom)
- Power modes removed from the Deck
Settings
- Profiles: Performance / Balanced / Power saver as three cards at the top of Home → Settings, click to switch. Only modes your PC has are shown. Works on laptops and desktops
- Window size has a live preview, and the Settings window really resizes now (new helper
rice-settings-size; log in~/.cache/rice/settings-size.log)
