Play Duskbloods 1.1.0: online rooms (experimental)

New

  • Online tab: play with friends. Choose Host a room or Join a room and type a room
password. Everyone with the same password is matched together. One friend hosts and the others
type the host's address. Just me keeps the old offline mode, where nothing leaves your PC.
  • .nup support: Browse now accepts the game as a .nup package (NX Package, used by
Eglantine v30+ and Lichii). The launcher checks that the package holds the right game version and
takes the regulation file from it. Folder still picks an unpacked game folder. Your emulator
    must support .nup files.
  • New look based on the game's own menus: a top tab bar (Setup / Online), a mode list on the left,
    and a Start game bar.
  • Online guide (ONLINE.md): a
step-by-step guide for setting up ZeroTier (recommended), Tailscale or Radmin VPN, the ports for
router forwarding, and troubleshooting. The Online tab's How to play online button opens it.

Connecting players

The in-game match connects the emulators directly, and the server has no relay for that. Players
need the same home network, a VPN such as ZeroTier, Tailscale or Radmin VPN, or router
port forwards (TCP 18443, 18445; TCP+UDP 3478-3479; UDP 10025, 10125, 33334, 34343). The Online tab
lists the ports.

Notes

  • Experimental: room matchmaking has been tested; full matches between real emulators still need
testing. If a match fails, open an issue and attach the newest Open logs folder from the host
    and from one joiner.
  • Everyone in a room should use this version.
  • Privacy: the room password is never sent, only a hash of it. Keys, game files and saves are never
    sent.

Play Duskbloods v1.0.2

Play Duskbloods 1.0.2

Fixed

  • A closed session kept its port busy. The packaged launcher runs each local server as a wrapper
plus a child process, and closing the launcher or the game only stopped the wrapper, so the real
server kept port 18443 until it died by itself. A new launch then failed or took a long time to
notice the old one was gone. The launcher now stops the whole process tree, waits for the port to
be released, and when starting waits up to 15 seconds for a previous session to let go instead of
    failing at once.

Also in this build (from 1.0.1)

  • Linux support (Play-Duskbloods-linux.tar.gz, see the README).
  • Fixes for the WinError 1337 startup crash, the "internet connection is required" message caused by a
saved VPN adapter name, and the Failed to bind to address 127.0.0.1:18444 error.
  • Replaces the broken test build that showed NameError: name 'Pathsafe_is_file' is not defined:
if you see that error, download this version.

Play Duskbloods 1.0.1

New

  • Linux support for the launcher (Play-Duskbloods-linux.tar.gz): GUI + local servers run on Linux
(needs Python 3 with Tk). Finds eglantine / eden / lichii / yuzu binaries and AppImages, uses
~/.local/share and ~/.config for data, opens logs with xdg-open. See README-LINUX.md inside.
The package does not include an emulator; you need a Linux build with Duskbloods support.

Fixes

  • Fixed a crash at startup when a drive contains an unreadable folder (WinError 1337, e.g. R:\WpSystem).
  • Fixed "An internet connection is required": a network adapter name saved on another PC (such as a VPN)
is reset to automatic before every launch.
  • Fixed Failed to bind to address 127.0.0.1:18444: the launcher now picks free internal ports and shows a
clear message if port 18443 is taken.
  • Fixed the local front door being left running when a server failed to start (it kept port 18443 busy).
  • Linux: port checks no longer misreport a recently used port as busy.
  • A damaged launcher_settings.json no longer crashes the launcher.
  • "Game closed" message shows the signal on Linux instead of a negative number.

Known issue

  • Some users get "Connection to The Duskbloods game server has been lost" after several minutes of play.
The server logs show no errors; still being investigated. Please attach the newest runs/<time> folder
(Open logs button) when reporting it.
