Tinycap 0.5.0
Recordings can now have sound.
- System audio: record everything your Mac plays, in window, area and screen recordings. Tinycap's own sounds are left out.
- Microphone: talk over your recording. Pick any input (built-in, USB, an audio interface or Bluetooth) from the Microphone menu, the bar under an area selection, or Settings → Recording. macOS asks for Microphone access the first time you turn it on.
- No speaker echo: the microphone goes through the same echo cancellation as FaceTime, so sound from your speakers doesn't play twice. Turn off "Reduce echo from speakers" in Settings for a studio mic or headphones.
- Preview with sound: play the recording with sound, and untick System audio or Microphone to leave either out.
- MP4 keeps the sound, mixed into one track so it plays everywhere, including Chrome, Slack and GitHub. Tick "Separate tracks for editing" to keep system audio and the microphone apart for a video editor. WebM and GIF stay silent.
- Sound is off until you turn it on, so recordings and file sizes don't change otherwise.
Tinycap 0.4.0
Five new ways to mark up a screenshot.
- Rectangles and ellipses: outline a button, a field or an error. Hold Shift for a square or circle, and drag a corner to resize.
- Highlighter: a wide, see-through stroke that keeps the text underneath readable. Hold Shift to draw it straight across a line.
- Pen: draw freehand, smoothed as you go.
- Numbered steps: click to drop 1, 2, 3 for a walkthrough. Delete one and the rest renumber themselves.
- Each tool has a one-letter shortcut: R rectangle, O ellipse, H highlighter, D pen, N number. Hover over a tool to see its key.
- The toolbar now shows icons, leaving room for the color and size controls.
- Homebrew: install with
brew install --cask soleo/tap/tinycap.
Tinycap 0.3.0
Tinycap now takes screenshots, with a quick editor for marking them up.
- Screenshots: Screenshot Area, Window or Screen from the menu bar, or press ⌃⌥⌘4 for an area. Full Retina resolution; window shots keep their transparent corners, with the shadow as an option.
- Floating thumbnail: after a capture, a thumbnail waits in the corner for a few seconds. Click it to edit, drag it into any app, or leave it and it's saved to your folder.
- Arrows: drag to draw, hold Shift to snap to 45°, and drag the middle handle to bend an arrow into a curve.
- Text: click to type, with an optional solid background so it reads on any screenshot.
- Pixelate: hide passwords, keys or names. The export replaces those pixels, so nothing can be recovered from the file.
- Crop: keep just the part that matters.
- Export: press ⌘C to copy or ⌘S to save, as PNG or JPEG at 2× or 1×. Saved files carry no location or device details.
- Undo and redo for every edit, six colors plus a color picker, and your last style is remembered.
- New Screenshot tab in Settings for what happens after a capture, the format and the default style.
- Copy and paste now work in text fields across the app.
Tinycap 0.2.0
- Highlight clicks: a yellow ring marks each click in screen, area and window recordings. Turn it on in Settings → Recording.
- Countdown: an optional 3-2-1 before recording starts. Press Esc to cancel.
- Updates: from this version on, Tinycap checks for a new version once a day and reminds you quietly with a dot on the menu-bar icon. It never interrupts a recording. You can turn this off in Settings → General.
- Report a Bug and Send Feedback open a GitHub issue with your Tinycap and macOS versions filled in. Tinycap sends nothing itself.
- About in Settings shows the version, build date and commit, with links to the source and release notes.
- Fixed: Tinycap's own windows could appear in screen and area recordings.
