Locke Extension

Welcome. This wiki explains how the browser extension fits into Locke, Sonomos's on-device privacy screen for AI apps — and where to go for everything else.

The one-paragraph version

The extension watches the AI web apps you use — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, and AI-answering search engines. When a page is about to send your prompt (or an attachment) to one of them, the extension holds the request and hands it to the Locke desktop app running on your machine. Locke screens it for sensitive data and answers with a verdict: send it as-is, send a redacted version, or block it. The extension enforces that verdict. If Locke can't be reached, nothing is sent — the extension fails closed rather than guessing.

Everything happens on your device. The extension's only network destination is the desktop app on 127.0.0.1 — a property enforced by this repository's CI on every change, not just promised.

The extension does not work alone

It is one half of a pair:

Piece What it does Where it comes from
Locke desktop app All the screening: detection, redaction, policy. Also installs and registers the native messaging host the extension talks through. sonomos.ai/locke
This extension Holds browser requests, relays them to the app, enforces the verdict. Contains no detection logic of its own. Chrome Web Store, Edge Add-ons, Firefox AMO

Install the desktop app first. Without it the extension has nobody to ask, and in-scope requests will be blocked rather than silently allowed.
