@sonsegajp sonsegajp released this 28 Oct 01:01

Custom City Trial maps, a map editor, and Hyrule Field.

Downloads

  • KirbyAirRideRecompiled-1.3.0-windows-x64.zip: the game. As before, it builds itself from your own disc on first run.
  • KarMapEditor-1.3.0-windows-x64.zip: the map editor. Unzip it into the game's folder. It runs without installing .NET.
  • HyruleField-1.3.0.zip: a City Trial map made from Ocarina of Time's Hyrule Field and the places around it. Unzip it into the game's folder; it goes to mods\maps\HyruleField.

City Trial maps

  • Maps are mods in mods\maps. Pick one under City Trial > Game Settings > Stage.
  • Online, players who don't have the host's map download it from the host.
  • Each map has its own areas, music, minimaps and warps. Items and machines in other areas are hidden.

Map editor

  • Start a map from a 3D model (.gltf .glb .obj .fbx .dae .smd).
  • Place spawns, areas with their own music and minimap, warps and event points. Set the fog and the sky.
  • Build makes the mod, collision included. Play starts the game on it.
  • The editor reads the game files it needs from your disc through the game (kirbyairride.exe --extract), so no extracted disc is needed.

Fixes in this release

  • Custom maps draw their vertex colours: trees, paths and shading were coming out white.
  • On maps with far-apart places, each area has its own sky.
  • A map's fog stays off after City Trial events.
  • Long warps no longer stop the game. A camera collision check that covered more than 200 boxes used to assert.

1.2.1: widescreen menus fill the screen

@sonsegajp sonsegajp released this 26 Oct 23:52

Widescreen menus fill the screen. Every menu, background and menu effect now reaches the edges of a 16:9 (or wider) screen on its own, by general rules instead of a few hand-made screen layouts:

  • Bars, bands, panels and background layers that reach the side of the old 4:3 picture now run on to the edge of the screen (the highlight behind the selected button, the Z: Game Settings bar, the course select frame, the results rows).
  • Art the game draws just past the 4:3 edge is shown instead of being cut off.
  • Things the game keeps parked off-screen (Player Entry's panels for players who haven't joined) stay hidden.
  • The Nintendo/HAL logo screen fills the width; the intro and How to Play movies stay 4:3.
  • Fixed: menu descriptions were split in two with a gap in the middle.

Download: unzip KirbyAirRideRecompiled-1.2.1-windows-x64.zip, run kirbyairride.exe and choose your Kirby Air Ride (USA) disc image. Coming from 1.2.0, the game is built from your disc once more on first start (a few minutes). Nothing of the game is in the download. Details: docs/SETUP.md.

8 players online: Kirby Air Ride (8 players).bat. Dedicated server (unchanged): server-1.1.0.

1.2.0: the game has a download (built from your disc)

@sonsegajp sonsegajp released this 26 Oct 08:24

The game has a download. Unzip KirbyAirRideRecompiled-1.2.0-windows-x64.zip, run kirbyairride.exe and choose your Kirby Air Ride (USA) disc image (.iso, .gcm, .ciso, .rvz or .wia), or drop it on the window.

The first time, the program builds the game from your disc: it checks the program on it, recompiles it to C++ and compiles that with the bundled clang. That takes a few minutes, once, and then the game starts. Nothing of the game is in the download, neither its code nor its data.

Building the game

  • 8 players online (City Trial): run Kirby Air Ride (8 players).bat. The first time, it builds the 8-rider build as well. Every player in an 8-player lobby uses it.
  • The disc it expects: the USA release's main.dol, SHA-1 977533bb96e6a16e127946396489be1b4164ac42. Any image format works, trimmed or not.
  • Needs: Windows 10/11 64-bit, about 1 GB free during setup (the game it builds is about 55 MB).
  • If setup stops: the screen says why, and setup.log beside the program has the details. More in docs/SETUP.md.

Dedicated server (unchanged): server-1.1.0.

Bug fixes: 8-rider build offline, City Trial stats

@sonsegajp sonsegajp released this 26 Oct 06:53

Fixes for the 8-rider build:

  • Playing offline no longer splits the screen. Offline (and in the game's own LAN menus) the 8-rider build now plays as the game does: you and the CPUs, 4 riders at most, one full screen. 8 riders stay an online feature.
  • The machine stats after the city are each rider's own again. The stats screen showed 2 on every row whatever patches were collected - the build read the stats from where the game used to keep them. The same fix applies wherever the game reads the saved stats.

The game has no download: build it from your own disc (README) - tools\build8p.ps1 for the 8-rider build.

Dedicated server (unchanged, 1.1.0 - lobbies of up to 8): unzip AirRideServer-win64.zip and double-click StartServer.bat; players choose Online > Settings > Service: Dedicated Server and type your PC's address. Details: server-1.1.0.

8 players online - dedicated server 1.1.0

8 players online in City Trial. With the 8-rider build, up to eight players - one per PC - play a City Trial match online: the city, the machine stats, the Stadium and the results, each player with their own screen and HUD, all in step. The host sets Match Players above 4 in the lobby (City Trial only above 4).

What made eight work:

  • The lockstep no longer runs ahead of a PC that is loading (the others wait for it, as the game's own ring would) - before, a long load could overwrite input that PC had not played yet.
  • Disc loads and scene starts are seen at the same point of the game on every PC.
  • Waiting in an online lobby no longer drops the game back to the title; a late music stream no longer stops the game.

Not yet: Air Ride with more than 4; riders 5-8 have no name label floating over them; two 8-player matches in a row in one lobby are not tested yet.

The game has no download: build it from your own disc (README) - tools\build8p.ps1 for the 8-rider build.

Dedicated server 1.1.0 (lobbies of up to 8 players; Windows, nothing to install):

  1. Unzip AirRideServer-win64.zip anywhere and double-click StartServer.bat (Python's embeddable runtime is built in). Allow it through the Windows firewall when asked.
  2. In the game, players choose Online > Settings > Service: Dedicated Server and type your PC's address (the server window lists them). Over the internet, forward TCP 27600 and UDP 27601 to this PC.
  3. Close the window to stop it. Accounts and profiles stay in airride.db beside the bat.

Linux / macOS, a VPS, backups and bans: server/DEPLOY.md.
