@sooftware sooftware released this 05 Nov 09:26

The first release of lmux: a light, native macOS terminal for living in Claude Code and Codex all day. Signed and notarized. Requires macOS 14 or later on Apple silicon.

Install

Download lmux-arm64.dmg, open it and drag lmux.app to Applications. There's also a .zip below if you prefer. Or use Homebrew:

brew install --cask sooftware/tap/lmux

On first launch, lmux offers to install a few Claude Code hooks (and Codex hooks, if you have Codex) and shows you the diff before it writes anything. The next time Codex starts, it asks once to trust them: pick Trust all and continue.

What's in 0.1.0

  • Light. A 25 MB app that idles near 0% CPU, whether you have one workspace open or twenty. Native Swift on libghostty, no browser engine, about ten settings.
  • Know which agent needs you. Status comes from Claude Code's hooks and from Codex itself: running, needs you, done or failed. You get a ring on the pane, a badge in the sidebar and one notification per event, and ⇧⌘J jumps to whoever is waiting. Any other agent can report its state with a single escape sequence (OSC 7501). lmux never wraps claude or codex; it only listens.
  • Take back a prompt. Hover a turn and press ×, and Claude rewinds the conversation to just before it, without restarting the session. Files it changed stay changed. ✎ does the same and hands the prompt back to fix and resend. Sent it to the wrong pane? Press ⌘Z while the "Sent to …" toast is up. (Claude Code only.)
  • Quit, update, reboot. It all comes back. Workspaces, splits and tabs reopen as you left them, each pane in its own folder, and every Claude Code and Codex session resumes. History (⇧⌘H) finds older sessions and brings them back.
  • Bring your cmux setup. One click imports your theme, fonts, shortcuts and open workspaces, with their sessions resumed. cmux's own files are never touched, and Undo Import restores your lmux config and closes the imported workspaces.
  • Tabs in every pane. They work like cmux's: ⌘T for a new one, drag to reorder or move them between panes, plus pin, rename and Close Other Tabs.
  • Korean input that just works. No dropped or mangled syllables while you type, and Hangul is exactly two cells wide. Japanese and Chinese (Pinyin, Zhuyin) input get fixes too, like the caret showing inside the text you're composing.
  • The lmux CLI for scripts and agents: lmux list shows every pane and its agent's state, lmux send types into a pane, and lmux wait blocks until an agent is done or needs you. It's on your PATH in every pane, and the Homebrew cask links it for other terminals too. Sending input from outside lmux is off by default; turn it on in Settings → General.

lmux makes no network calls: no telemetry, no crash reports, no update check. To update, run brew upgrade or grab the next release here.
