Flat faces laid again without the web of slivers a boolean leaves, Grow, Shrink and Trim that move
faces rather than scale, a Measure that snaps to what you are looking at, an orthographic view, and
a start page with your favorite projects.

New in 4.6.0

Clean faces, same shape

  • Rebuild now offers Keep the shape beside From scratch. Only the corners stay: points in
the middle of flat faces and along straight edges go, and every flat face is filled again from its
outline - the web of long thin triangles a subtract leaves is gone, and nothing moves.
Merge faces within 0.01 mm takes walls joined from parts as one face. Even triangles cuts
the result to about one size, for Smooth, Deform or a texture. A result that comes out cracked is
mended if it can be, and turned down if not.
  • Surface (it was Surface info) shows a face's triangles, and Rebuild face lays that one face
    again from its outline.

Grow, Shrink and Trim

  • Grow / Shrink move every face out or in by the same distance - not a scale, so walls get thicker
or thinner, gaps narrower or wider, and corners stay sharp. Untick Z to keep the height.
  • Trim cuts a part back round its outer edge only, along the axes you pick, leaving partitions and
floors inside the edge as they are: an insert made to fit inside other walls.

Clone a face

  • Surface → Clone adds the face read as a thin solid standing on it: its thickness set, its
outline grown or shrunk (a frame round an opening, a gasket), several faces at once with
Shift+click. The clone is selected, ready to move or subtract.

Measure

  • Snaps to the corner or edge under the pointer nearest you, never one hidden behind a face -
looking down a wall, the tape goes to its top, not its foot.
  • A ring shows where a click will land, and the tape follows the pointer to the second point.
  • Several points joins each click to the last with every stretch and the total; right click or
Esc ends the run. Legs and angles reads each stretch as its right triangle on the plate.
  • Earlier measurements stay until Clear. Shift drags a point of any of them; Ctrl turns
and pans the view over a part without putting a point down.

View and files

  • Orthographic view, with every part's edges drawn dark so a plan from the top reads.
  • A start page: a new project, a file to open, your favorites (the Favorite star on the
File tab) and the last three others, each with its picture. Recent shows the pictures too, and
    ends with Clear.
  • Project shows what the project holds and keeps notes in the file. Settings is called
    Printer profile.
  • The window comes back where it was, maximised if it was. The object list scrolls to a part as it is
    added.
  • The Tools tab leads with Subtract, Intersect and Merge, then Split and the tools that cut and
join; Grow, Shrink and Trim are on the Edit tab.

Known limits

  • Trim reads the outer edge as seen from above: a part that overhangs is trimmed to the outline of
its widest part, and Z only takes the top and bottom off.
  • Grow / Shrink cannot make anything disappear: a distance more than some part is wide would fold
it through itself, and it is refused.
  • Rebuild, Keep the shape leaves faces with holes as they are, and every point on their outline.
  • A hole with flat sides is found only when its walls close round one line and face in: a slot open at
one end is not one, and a rough, textured reveal falls back to the single flat face you clicked.
  • .3dfc projects from before 4.3 are import only: opened, dropped or double-clicked, one is
imported onto the plate - its parts where they stood, still remade by Edit settings - but its
kept versions do not come along. Save it again to have a 3MF project.
  • A slicer that saves over a project drops the project inside it: keep the project and the
    slicer's file apart.
  • The Library and most of its parts are still marked beta: check what a part gives you before
    a long print.
