v0.1.0

This is the tutorial as it stood in October 2023, tagged so it stays easy to find before the refresh starts. It's a historical snapshot, so please don't follow it as written for a new install.

Known problems

  • The runner steps say to install and register GitLab Runner inside the VM, but the libvirt-driver scripts run on the host.
  • config.toml and the README say iconcurrent where they should say concurrent.
  • runner-builder.sh installs Debian's docker package, which isn't the Docker container engine.
  • cleanup.sh asks the VM to shut down, then deletes its disk without waiting for it to stop.
  • The README doesn't mention creating /opt/tf-state or /root/.ssh/id_rsa on the host, and the scripts need both.

Out of date

  • The runner image is Debian 11, which reached end of life on August 31, 2026.
  • The README registers the runner with a registration token, which GitLab no longer recommends.
  • The screenshots show GitLab's 2023 interface.
