Release list
0.1.2 beta
Manifield is an AI workbench for mathematical research: your theory as plain Markdown files, agents that must read what they cite, and a proposal gate so nothing reaches your library without you accepting it.
This is a private alpha build. It is usable and it has bugs.
What's new in 0.1.2
- Fixed: "couldn't detect the Codex binary" when signing in with OpenAI. A recent ChatGPT desktop app update moved its bundled
codextool, so Manifield could not find it. It now looks in the new location as well as the old ones.
If you already run 0.1.1, Manifield will offer this update itself (Manifield → Check for Updates…). No manual download needed.
Installing (first time only)
- Open
Manifield-0.1.2.dmg. - Drag Manifield to Applications, then open it from there. Do not run it from the disk image.
Requires macOS 15 or later. Apple silicon and Intel.
Licence and warranty
This is a private alpha build, not open-source software — yet. It is not licensed for redistribution. It is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind. Keep your project folder in git or Dropbox.
v0.1.1: Revise README for Manifield with detailed information
Manifield is an AI workbench for mathematical research: your theory as plain Markdown files, agents that must read what they cite, and a proposal gate so nothing reaches your library without you accepting it.
This is a private alpha build. It is usable and it has bugs.
Installing
- Open
Manifield-0.1.1.dmg. - Drag Manifield to Applications, then open it from there.
- macOS will ask once whether to allow an app downloaded from the internet. That prompt is normal for a notarized app; it appears on the first open only.
Do not run it from the disk image. macOS then executes it from a temporary read-only copy, and maths rendering and the Python sandbox both fail in ways that look like unrelated bugs.
Requires macOS 15 or later. Apple silicon and Intel.
What's new in 0.1.1
- Automatic updates. Manifield checks for new builds on its own, so fixes arrive without another manual download.
Check for Updates…is in the Manifield menu, and the automatic check can be switched off in Settings → General. - Report a Bug.
Help → Report a Bug…sends a report with a technical log attached, so a problem can be diagnosed rather than guessed at. No definitions, statements, proofs, chat or model output ever go into a report. The form shows you the exact payload before anything is sent, and nothing is sent until you press Send.
Coming from build 1: that build could not update itself, so this is the last time you install Manifield by hand.
Getting set up
You need either the ChatGPT desktop app or the Codex CLI installed — Manifield does not bundle OpenAI's codex binary, it finds one already on your Mac — plus a ChatGPT plan, or an API key for Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or another provider.
The testing guide you were sent covers sign-in, the one-time Python setup, and a twenty-minute walkthrough of the sample project. Read §4 to §6 before §7.
Reporting
Use Help → Report a Bug… — it carries the log, which makes a short report more useful than a long one written from memory. Bugs that lose or corrupt your work, crash on first launch, or break onboarding are the ones worth interrupting me for; everything else can wait for a batch.
Licence and warranty
This is a private alpha build, not open-source software — yet. Manifield will be published under the GNU General Public License v3 when the source goes public; until then this copy is not licensed for redistribution, so please do not pass it on.
It is provided as is, with no warranty of any kind and no liability for data loss or anything else it may do. Keep your project folder in git or Dropbox — that is worth more than any disclaimer.
