tubes-port 0.11.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Sep 18:07

An SDL/C++ reimplementation of Tubes, a 1994 DOS puzzle game,
translated out of the original binary.

You need a copy of the game

No game data ships here, and none ever will. The port plays the files
from a copy of Tubes. Any copy works, including the free
shareware release, which the Internet Archive hosts:
https://archive.org/details/msdos_TUBES_shareware. Unzip it, and
the folder with TUBES.RES in it is your Tubes folder.

Windows

  1. Download the windows-x86_64.zip below and unzip it.
  2. Copy tubes-port.exe into your Tubes folder, next to TUBES.RES.
  3. Double-click it.

Or drag your Tubes folder onto tubes-port.exe. It remembers where
the game is, so a desktop shortcut works after the first start. If
Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then
Run anyway: it says that about any unsigned download. The zip's
HOW TO PLAY.txt has the same steps and the controls.

Linux

./tubes-port /path/to/your/tubes

Or run it from inside your Tubes folder with no argument.

Needs SDL2 installed (libsdl2-2.0-0 on Debian and Ubuntu). It is
linked dynamically and deliberately not bundled, because a
distribution's own package is better maintained than a copy frozen at
release time. On an older glibc than the one below, build from source
instead: three commands, needing only SDL2, CMake 3.16 or newer, and a
C++17 compiler. See the README.

  • Linux: built on ubuntu-24.04 against SDL 2.30.0,
glibc 2.39 (the floor for this binary).
    Tests: 1086 checks, 0 failures.
  • Windows: built on windows-latest with MSVC, SDL 2.32.10#1 linked statically
with the static CRT, so it needs no DLLs and no redistributable.
    Tests: 1086 checks, 0 failures.

An SDL/C++ reimplementation of Tubes, a 1994 DOS puzzle game,
translated out of the original binary.

You need your own copy of the game

No game data ships here, and none ever will. Unpack the archive and
point the port at the folder holding your TUBES.RES. DRIVERS.RES
beside it adds FM music. The game's own executable is never opened,
so its LZEXE packing does not matter.

Windows

Unzip, then either run it from a command prompt:

tubes-port.exe --gamedir C:\path\to\your\tubes

or copy tubes-port.exe into the game's folder and double-click it,
since the game directory defaults to the one it starts in. A console
window opens beside the game; that is where errors are reported.

Linux

./tubes-port --gamedir /path/to/your/tubes
