Best migration path from Diving Log 6.0 for buddies/equipment/trips/dive centers/certifications? #1000

Hi! Really enjoying Submersion so far — migrating over from Diving Log 6.0 (build 6.0.36). What I've triedI used the UDDF import, which worked well for dives and dive sites. However, buddies, equipment, trips, dive centers, and certifications didn't come through. I checked the exported Questions

Came to ask something similar. I also ran a UDDF import from oceanic+ and didn't find any of these things imported.... But looking through the app I don't see a place to add equipment per dive. I see a place to save equipment, but I'm a rec diver and rent equipment wherever I go. That said, I'd still like to track equipment per dive, especially to understand weight & buoyancy dynamics with everything put together. So... is there a way to manually add equipment for each dive? |

@GizmoGoody thanks for the careful digging; your read of the UDDF file was right. Diving Log's UDDF export simply doesn't carry buddies, equipment, trips, centers or certifications, so no amount of parsing on our side could recover them. Since v1.8.0, though, there's a better route: Submersion can now import Diving Log's logbook database directly instead of going through an export. Diving Log (like DiveLogDT) stores its logbook as a SQLite file, and Submersion reads its tables natively:
To use it, go to Transfer > Import > File Import and pick the logbook database file itself (the file Diving Log opens, not an export). Please make a copy first and import the copy rather than the live file. Since you've already imported your dives through UDDF, it's probably easiest to remove those first, or start from a fresh database, so you can look over the result without overlap. Otherwise the import review will flag the dives you already have. One caveat: the importer was built and tested against the Diving Log 5.0 / DiveLogDT schema, and you're on 6.0.36. It's designed to report anything it doesn't recognise as a warning rather than fail. If anything is missing or looks wrong, please post the warnings here or open an issue, and we'll adjust it for 6.0. To answer your second question directly: with this importer you don't need CSV or manual re-entry for trips or dive centers. @ChrisIsBananaz yes, you can record gear on each dive. Open a dive's edit page and, under Gas & Gear, use the Equipment section to pick the items you used; equipment sets let you add a whole kit at once. Weight is also recorded per dive in the same group. Items need to exist in your equipment list first, so for rental gear add each piece once (for example "Rental BCD, size M") and reuse it. There's no "rental" flag today; if you'd find one useful, a feature request with your use case would be welcome. Oceanic+'s UDDF export doesn't include equipment either, so that part won't come across on import. |
