Connection bonding, a tuned BitTorrent engine, and a menu bar presence.
Added
- Connection bonding. MacGet can download one file over several internet links at once — Wi-Fi plus a USB-tethered iPhone or Android phone, Ethernet, or any other interface macOS sees. Off by default; turn it on from the new Connections toolbar item or Settings › Network.
- Each link must prove it reaches the internet before it joins, and drops out only after two consecutive failed probes.
- The existing 1–16 connection budget is split across links rather than enlarged; work stealing gives the faster link more pieces.
- A link the server rejects sits out the rest of that download without restarting it or being counted against the host.
- Download rows and the inspector show a per-link speed breakdown and a stacked chart.
- Applies to resumable HTTP(S) downloads. Any proxy disables it, so it can never bypass one.
- Torrent peer connections can be spread across bonded links too (experimental).
- Menu bar item — a progress ring and total speed, with a menu to check or pause downloads without opening the window.
- Torrent Performance settings — max peers, public tracker injection (skipped for private torrents), encryption preference with an opt-in strict mode, and port mapping.
- IPv6 DHT when the Mac has a global IPv6 address.
Changed
- Faster torrents. The peer-discovery ceiling rises from 10M to 100M (the old value stopped looking for peers at ~80 Mbps), the disk cache is larger, seeding no longer holds a download slot, and the concurrency setting is honoured.
- Chrome extension ships without media capture. Media extraction now lives in the Firefox build only, as required by the Chrome Web Store; download capture, cookies and referrer are unchanged.
Fixed
- Downloads without a
Content-Lengthwork. Servers using chunked transfer no longer fail with "Server did not report file size." - Clicking a magnet link adds it. MacGet launched as the
magnet:handler but then dropped the URL. - The list keeps updating after the window is closed and reopened from the Dock, instead of going silent.
- Fast downloads no longer fail with "Chunk not found" or "Unexpected HTTP status 0". When workers finished during the 100 ms spawn stagger, the engine could start a worker on a piece that had just been split, or treat a download that completed mid-stagger as stalled.
