Initially this was to remove some unwanted dark/light mode transitions left over from long ago, hence the branch name, but In the process I realised that the documentation sidebar menu is broken — between 800px and 832px, the sidebar isn't visible but you also can't access the contents via the menu.
With this PR, we keep the mobile nav up to 832px — we only switch to the desktop nav when there's enough room to show the docs sidebar
