The Count now reads a local working tree the way a push would, so git-ignored files stay out, and he no longer feeds test fixtures and examples to the updater by default. Repositories that relied on updates inside those directories need a config change, so read Breaking Changes first.

Fixed

  • Local runs read git-ignored directories (@sweepies). lookup, run --dry-run, tui and apply with no repository named used to walk the whole checkout, including node_modules/ and other ignored directories. They now list the files Git would push: tracked files plus untracked files that Git does not ignore, so .gitignore, .git/info/exclude and the global excludes file apply. Tracked files inside an ignored directory are still read, as on GitHub. A directory that is not a Git checkout is walked as before, minus .git.
  • Files below a symlinked directory are no longer read or written. Deleted tracked files, symlinks and submodules are skipped, so nothing outside the checkout is touched.

Changed

  • Default exclude covers install, vendor and test-data directories (@sweepies). The defaults now also skip bower_components, test, tests, __tests__, __fixtures__, fixtures and examples at any depth, alongside node_modules, vendor and .git. The same defaults apply to GitHub reads and local reads. On this repository, lookup --default-config went from 62 package files and 2544 lookups to 27 files and 87 lookups.
  • Lookup progress says what it counts. The spinner reads running N lookups… instead of looking up N dependencies…. Each lookup is one package, or one action ref whose digest is read.

Breaking Changes

If a repository has manifests under test/, tests/, fixtures/, examples/ or the other newly excluded directories, the Count stops opening PRs for them. To keep one of those directories, add a ! entry to exclude. It keeps every default and re-includes only the paths it matches:

amends "PatchulaConfig.pkl"

exclude { "!examples/app/**" }

Assigning exclude = new Listing { ... } replaces the defaults entirely, so list any you still want excluded.
