InputWeave 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@tasict tasict released this 05 Nov 16:44

This update fixes a rare crash of InputWeave's background service. Install it on every computer: the macOS and Windows apps offer it themselves, and on Linux it comes with your system's software updates.

Fixed

  • The background service could crash. A timing bug in Tokio, the library it runs on, could free a timer while it was still firing, which crashed the service or, rarely, corrupted its memory. The heartbeats between your computers and the service's regular checks used that timer. (RUSTSEC-2026-0384)
  • A cryptography helper compared values in a time that could depend on them. It is updated to the version that does not. (RUSTSEC-2026-0385)

Changed

  • Linux: InputWeave talks to the desktop (its portals, the clipboard, the lock screen and the tray icon) through newer versions of the D-Bus libraries it uses. Nothing should look different; if something on your desktop behaves differently from 1.0.0, please report it.

The user guide covers setup and everything else.

InputWeave 1.0.0

@tasict tasict released this 05 Nov 14:43

The first public release of InputWeave, which lets the computers on your desk share one keyboard and mouse: move the pointer past the edge of a screen and keep working on the computer next to it, with the clipboard and files coming along. It works between macOS, Windows and Linux over your local network, with no account and no cloud.

What's in it

  • Keyboard and mouse: arrange the computers as they sit on your desk; the pointer crosses where two screens meet, and the edge it crosses lights up. Take back control any time with ⌃⌥⇧⎋ (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + Esc), lock the pointer to one computer, jump to a computer with a shortcut or a click on the panel's map, and switch to relative mouse for games.
  • Clipboard: copy on one computer and paste on another: plain and formatted text, images, and files copied in Finder or File Explorer. Content your password manager marks as secret stays where it is.
  • Files: drag files across the edge of the screen between a Mac and a PC, drop them on a computer in the app, or use Send Files. They go straight there over your network and resume after a dropped connection.
  • Pairing and security: a new computer joins with a 6-digit code; every connection uses mutual TLS over QUIC, pinned to each computer's own certificate.
  • Windows sign-in screen and UAC prompts can be used from another computer, through the InputWeave service.
  • Native apps on all three platforms, in English and Traditional Chinese.
  • Updates from GitHub: the macOS and Windows apps offer new versions themselves; on Linux they arrive with your system's software updates.
  • The license: every feature is free. A US$10 license for up to 5 computers replaces "Trial" with "Licensed" in Settings and About, and reaches your paired computers by itself.

Installing

  • macOS 15 or later: open InputWeave-1.0.0.pkg.
  • Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11 (x64): run InputWeave-1.0.0-x64.msi. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may ask you to confirm.
  • Ubuntu 24.04 or later, Debian 13: sudo apt install ./inputweave_1.0.0_amd64.deb (or _arm64). Later versions then come with the system's software updates.

The user guide covers setup and everything else.

Known limitations

  • A Mac's lock screen and login window can't be used from another computer yet: that needs a permission Apple grants to the app, which is still pending.
  • On Linux, files can't be dragged across computers (use Send Files or copy and paste), and GNOME's Wayland session shows no edge glow.
