v1.8.0
Immutable
release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
What's Changed
- Tools > Hash generator… hashes names (hexadecimal, unsigned and signed decimal; lowercase, exact bytes or audio-stream mode) and resolves hashes to the names that hold them, against the built-in metadata names and a list of your own names kept in ~/.local/share/paleto/names.txt.
- paleto hash generate and paleto hash resolve do the same from a terminal, with no game needed.
- File > Favorites and recent locations… keeps the folders, archives and paths inside archives you come back to, and your latest 24 visits. Each place is kept by its path inside its game folder, so an install that moved still resolves, and the list says why a place cannot open.
- The 3D preview lists the textures a model names that none of its dictionaries holds, instead of leaving black surfaces unexplained. Some tuning parts, such as the Panoramas blowers, point to textures of another vehicle.
- A missing CodeWalker converter (paleto-cwconv) now reports every place it was searched for.
- The panic policy of the core library is counted by a test, and a CI check refuses a gh-pages commit over its size budget.
- The GUI code moved out of one 5,000-line file into one module per window or panel, with no change in behaviour.

1.7.0
Immutable
release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
What's Changed
- Restoring or saving a snapshot copies from one open folder to the next and never follows a link, so a folder swapped for a link while it runs cannot redirect it. Every file is flushed to disk before the swap, and folders keep their permissions.
- A restore that finds something it did not make in its place keeps it and names it in the error, instead of deleting it.
- Pipes, sockets, devices and names that are not valid UTF-8 in a snapshot or in the mods folder are refused with a message that names them.
- When a game folder has names that differ only in case (x64 and X64, say), installs, add-on packs and extractions say which one they used.
- Converting and the OIV export skip an archive entry whose name is empty or not a plain path.
- Flatpak updates from the previous release download one small delta: about 3 MB instead of about 21 MB of changed files (measured from 1.5.1 to 1.6.0).
- The Flatpak repository is checked on a machine without the signing key before it is signed.

v1.6.0
Immutable
release. Only release title and notes can be modified.
What's Changed
- Installing OIV packages and add-on packs, editing archives, converting and the file operations of the browser each run as one journaled change under a lock on the game: a failure undoes what was done, or the error says what is left, and a change cut short by a crash or a power cut is undone or finished at the next change.
- An interrupted change is offered for undo when the game is chosen; paleto recover does the same on the command line.
- Writes stay in the game and mods folders and never go through a link that leads out of them; programs and the game's own .dll and .txt files in the game folder are never replaced. Extracting or exporting into a game folder follows the same rules.
- OIV packages are read within limits (manifest, icon, number of files, expansion): a damaged or hostile package is refused, and anything already written is undone.
- A failed install shows what was done and what was undone.
- Releases are built from their tag and the pinned tools, and the Flatpak repository is signed outside the build.

1.5.1
What's Changed
- Model export: exporting a model as XML no longer exhausts memory on a damaged or crafted file, and a model with an odd name cannot write its textures outside the folder you chose.
- Legacy fragments: the 66
.yftfiles of resource version 160 are no longer read with the Enhanced layout, so they preview and export correctly. - Destruction archives: 24 Legacy resources in
x64f.rpf/levels/gta5/destruction/that failed to open (a corrupt deflate stream or an invalid pointer) now open. They have 8 extra bytes before the compressed data.
Limitations
parachute_decals.ytd(x64a.rpf/textures/) to open in the Legacy game.- Cube map textures are supported but not verified.

1.5.0
What's Changed
- Export models as CodeWalker XML:
.ydr,.ydd,.yftand.ybnbecome the XML that Sollumz and CodeWalker import, with the textures as DDS files in a folder named after the model. Use ⬇ Export as XML… in the model viewer, orpaleto modelon the command line.- The XML has the meshes, skeleton, shaders, collision, joints and lights, plus the fragments' physics, glass and cloth.
- Enhanced shaders are written with the Legacy parameter names, as CodeWalker does.
- More files in the preview panel:
- collision (
.ybn) and navigation meshes (.ynv) in the 3D viewer; - a read-only summary of clip dictionaries (
.ycd).
- collision (
- Cube map textures: the texture viewer has a Face menu, and DDS export and import keep all six faces.
- Responsive window: folders, archives, the side tree and previews load without blocking it. Expand all and long reads can be cancelled from the status bar.
- Hex view: files with no other preview open as hex.
- Damaged or hostile files give an error instead of a crash, a hang or memory exhaustion. This covers archives, textures, audio, metadata, models, collision, navmeshes and clips.
- Archives:
- AES archives stay AES when saved.
- A nested archive stays readable after a rename.
- Entries whose names clash are never dropped.
- Added scripts are stored encrypted, or refused.
- In-place saves survive a crash.
- OIV packages:
- A failed install is undone.
- Edited text keeps its encoding.
- Paths that leave the game folder are refused.
- A program in the game folder is never replaced.
- Original game files: they are never edited through a link in the mods folder, nor renamed or deleted from the GUI.
- Enhanced dictionaries: X8R8G8B8 textures stay opaque.
- Safety during operations: the game cannot be switched while an operation runs, backups and restores of the prefix and mods folder are safer, and the Legacy → Enhanced converter has a time limit.

1.3.0
What's Changed
- When the game's Wine prefix is not found, Prefix tweaks offers
"Choose prefix folder…". Pick the game's compatdata folder (the one with
pfxinside), for example a non-Steam game added to Steam or a Faugus
prefix. The choice is remembered per edition; "Use Steam's prefix again"
forgets it. From a terminal:paleto prefix use PATH(no PATH forgets it). - For a prefix whose
pfxis a link to its own folder, the window
warns that the game must be closed first, because Paleto cannot see it
running. Back up now works; Restore is not supported for this layout, so
copy the folder yourself before changing it.
