Waypoint v2.5.4

@github-actions github-actions released this 07 Nov 09:07

Waypoint 2.5.4

This update restores the look of Night City and Machine Atlas, repairs damaged place icons across the maps, and gives you more control over the phone map HUD.

Map artwork and position

  • Reviewed all 38 worlds' day and night atlases and repaired damaged place icons, including the split Home Console icons.
  • Night City now uses recognizable Cyberpunk 2077 symbols where they match the place type, with simpler Waypoint symbols for the other places. Its Cyberpunk-inspired player marker keeps the same shape across walking, cycling, and driving on the phone and Android Auto; it rotates with a known heading and indicates when heading is unknown.
  • Machine Atlas again uses its cream map, charcoal lettering, rust accent, and simple monochrome place symbols at every hour. Its phone controls now align with the other worlds in portrait and landscape.

Phone map controls

  • A scale bar shows the distance represented by the current map view. It updates as the camera moves, uses your selected distance units, and sits at the bottom center in portrait or bottom left in landscape.
  • Choose Compact, Standard, or Large floating controls, with an optional Left or Right side placement. Controls keep touch targets at least 48 dp wide and tall.
  • Long world names scroll in the top-left selector when they cannot fit, across every world.
  • Landscape screens leave clearer space around the map controls in every world. Where there is room, route preview uses a compact side panel; at larger text sizes, route details scroll and guidance actions reflow while the scale bar stays clear.

Artwork quality

The place icon pipeline now records reviewed crop bounds, checks the finished atlases, and uses Pillow 13.0.0 so regenerated artwork stays consistent.

Thanks for the reports and ideas

  • @Balzamus spotted the malformed Home Console icons in #39.
  • @aidonevs asked for the game-accurate Night City map symbols in #48.
  • @FoxlNix asked for a consistent Cyberpunk player marker across travel modes in #23.
  • @6HentaiMaster9 reported the Machine Atlas regression and suggested the scale bar and HUD settings in #47.

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Nov 22:16
b0d6508

Waypoint 2.5.3

This update removes the fixed 150 MiB download limit from Waypoint's in-app updater.

  • After installing this version, future updates can be larger when your phone has enough free space. Waypoint still checks the complete download, checksum, app identity, version, and signing certificate.
  • This release remains below the 150 MiB limit in older installed versions, so they can still update directly.
  • Updated MapLibre while retaining its OpenGL ES renderer for older-device compatibility.
  • The 2.5.2 Android dependency updates, all 38 worlds, map artwork, and driving features remain available. Android still asks before installing and keeps your saved places, quests, and settings on compatible updates.

Waypoint 2.5.2

This maintenance update refreshes Waypoint's Android libraries and build tools.

  • Updated Android, map, and networking dependencies, including the Android build tools.
  • Kept the APK below the download size limit in older Waypoint versions, so the in-app update path remains available.
  • All 38 worlds, map artwork, and driving features remain available. Android still asks before installing and keeps your saved places, quests, and settings on compatible updates.

Waypoint 2.5.1

This update fixes the “The update has an invalid download size” message shown by older Waypoint versions when checking for an update.

  • The Android download now fits the size limit in earlier versions of Waypoint, so you can update from inside the app again.
  • All 38 worlds, their original map artwork, and the driving improvements from 2.5.0 remain available.
  • Android still asks you to confirm installation. Compatible updates keep your saved places, quests, and settings on this phone.

Waypoint v2.5.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 06 Nov 19:35
9ab565f

Waypoint 2.5.0

Waypoint 2.5.0 refreshes the art and driving experience across the real-world map. Choose one of 38 generated game-inspired worlds while keeping the same real streets, places and road routes underneath.

🎨 Original art over real geography

  • All 38 worlds now use map artwork created for Waypoint: generated materials, place symbols, destination markers and day/night treatments.
  • These maps do not use stock MapLibre style presets as their artwork. MapLibre remains the renderer for the live terrestrial map; it displays real geography and provider-supplied road and place data.
  • The underlying map remains a real-world map. Themes change its colors, textures, labels and symbols; they do not replace streets with fictional game geography.

🚗 Road-aware driving and recentering

  • The phone and Android Auto camera now follow navigation along the selected road instead of putting the vehicle in the visual center when that point is away from the route.
  • Recenter and heading behavior account for map tilt and recent user movement, keeping the live vehicle marker and road view aligned as guidance continues through turns.
  • Android Auto can show alternate driving routes with their own distance and time estimates before you choose one.

🧭 The terrestrial map stays useful

Search, routing, live location, saved places and voice guidance continue to work across the themed maps. The art is game-inspired; the destinations and roads remain real. Map and routing services still depend on network access and their providers’ availability.

🙌 Thanks for the requests and feedback

🎮 Thank you @Balzamus for the detailed map-world requests and follow-up style references in #7. Quests, place sharing and the requested bundled world directions arrived earlier; the remaining multiplayer, community-pack and game-folder-import ideas are not part of this release.

🗺️ Thanks to everyone who asked for more distinctive map artwork through Instagram and X/Twitter. Those requests helped guide this original-art pass across the worlds.

🚘 Thank you @RoseMariXOXOXO for reporting the Android Auto launcher issue in #2. This release improves road display and route choices in the car interface. It does not claim to resolve real-vehicle launcher eligibility for GitHub-installed APKs; that report remains open while a supported installation path is being verified.

🔒 What to expect

This is an Android release. Updates remain user-confirmed and preserve compatible saved places and preferences. Android Auto availability in a real vehicle still depends on Google’s trusted installation requirements. No Play Store release is included.

Waypoint v2.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Nov 04:47
124e173

Waypoint 2.0.1

This Android update keeps first-run setup finished after an app update, makes coordinate search reliable for more than one saved place, and keeps the release history readable when you skip versions.

🧭 A smoother update

  • Updating Waypoint no longer brings back the first-run onboarding after you have completed it. Your chosen world and favourites stay in place.
  • What’s New now includes the notes for every published version since the last notes you viewed. If an older build did not record that choice, Waypoint shows the full published history once. The notes are bundled for offline reading.

📍 Places you can find again

  • Enter a latitude and longitude pair in Search places to get that exact destination, even when another coordinate location is already saved. The pair is checked on your phone and is not sent to place-name search.
  • Invalid coordinate pairs show a clear format hint instead of a misleading saved-place match. You can still bookmark each different point separately.
  • Saved → place options → Rename keeps your own place name while preserving its address and coordinates. This feature arrived in 2.0.0 and remains available in 2.0.1.

🙌 Thanks for this feedback

💚 Thank you @harrydbarnes for reporting returning onboarding and asking for notes across skipped updates in #14. Both changes shaped this update.

📍 Thank you @Mahdi-fatemii for the saved-place naming request in #15. Personal names were added in 2.0.0 and checked again for this release.

🗺️ Thank you @Althayyr for reporting that a second coordinate location could not be found in #16. Your report led to exact coordinate search.

On your phone

Saved places and preferences stay on this phone across compatible updates. Waypoint asks before installing an update. This release is Android-only. Android Auto still needs a supported trusted installation channel to appear in real-car launchers.

Waypoint v2.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Nov 03:13
01f655a

Waypoint 2.0.0

Waypoint 2.0 brings personal quests, 38 worlds and more useful everyday navigation to Android. Your everyday tasks now have a place in Waypoint. Open Quests beside Map, Worlds and Saved, then Add a quest. A title is all you need.

📝 Quests, at your pace

  • Create, edit, complete and reopen personal tasks. Add notes, a place, a reminder or a character portrait when useful.
  • Navigate to an attached place using the normal route preview. Arriving never completes your task automatically.
  • Use 15, 25 or 45-minute focus sessions, or choose a custom duration. Pause and resume; closing the app does not reset your timer. After a reboot, confirm an expired session before it earns focus credit.
  • Choose a photo with Android’s picker, preview the centre crop, and keep a resized copy privately on this phone.

✨ Small wins, shared across your worlds

  • Complete a quest for 20 XP. A finished focus session of at least ten minutes adds 10 XP once per quest.
  • Earn a level every 100 XP, achievement badges, avatar frames and short story chapters. Undo reverses completion credit.
  • Navigation and every world stay available immediately. Hide progression in Your journey whenever you prefer.
  • Quieter driving: quest celebrations wait until the trip ends, and nonessential quest alerts stay silent during driving navigation and Android Auto use.

🗺️ Places move with you

Share an address or supported Google Maps link into Waypoint, paste it in search, or use Find in Waypoint when selecting address text. Review the destination before using it. From a place, choose Open in another map app to hand it off. The receiving app calculates its own route.

🚲 Bicycle routes, and places with your own names

Choose Bicycle beside Car, Motorcycle and Walk. Waypoint requests a dedicated cycling route and cycling arrival estimate from Valhalla. A pedal-cycle marker follows the route in your chosen world, and opening directions in Google Maps preserves cycling mode.

In Saved, open a place’s options and choose Rename. Use familiar names such as Work or Mum’s house; the address and exact location stay intact. Your name is retained across launches and appears when you choose that destination.

🎮 Eleven new worlds

Dark Zone, Sea Chart, DOS Atlas, Aincrad, Tactical Radar, Vector Command, Field Ops, 16-bit Quest, Home Console, Exclusion Zone and Machine Atlas join the catalogue. Exclusion Zone brings S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired PDA framing, muted terrain and green routes. Machine Atlas brings NieR:Automata-inspired beige panels, charcoal lettering and sculpted map buildings. All 38 worlds are bundled in the app. Search, use Favourites or New, then Preview → Use this world.

🐎 Travel in your world's style

Car and Motorcycle modes now have themed transport markers on the phone and Android Auto: a horse in Old West, a minecart in Pixel World, ships, fantasy mounts and world-styled modern vehicles. They keep the same real driving or motorcycle routes. Android Auto uses a clearer vehicle marker, a lower road-following view and route previews that account for the car's panels.

✨ Smoother browsing and movement

Vehicle position and the following camera now animate together between GPS updates, including through turns. Repeated sensor readings no longer restart the movement. Main screens use short transitions, quest rows settle into place, and world thumbnails load off the UI thread. Android’s Remove animations setting remains supported.

Worlds remembers your scroll position, search and filter when you preview or apply a world. Return to the catalogue where you left it, even after recreating the screen.

🔤 Lettering that belongs to each world

Dark Zone uses Borda, Tactical Radar uses Stratum 2, Pixel World uses Minecraft Seven, Skyrim uses Futura Condensed and Sea Chart uses Windlass titles. Shared font roles keep the phone and car HUD consistent, with readable fallback lettering for other languages.

🗣️ A voice for your world

Each of the 38 worlds now has nine rotating original phrases for starting out, travelling and arriving. Navigation adds brief original phrases and subtle changes in tone to match the selected world: “Let’s ride, partner” in Old West or “Course plotted, captain” in Sea Chart. Distances, turn directions and street names stay unchanged and come first. Imminent turns keep the instruction short. Turn off Game-style voice in Settings for standard wording and tone. Both modes use your installed Android speech engine, on the phone and Android Auto.

🔔 Know when a new version arrives

Waypoint now checks its existing GitHub releases in the background by default, using Android’s scheduler—no account, paid service or new backend. Allow notifications when prompted to receive a new-release alert. The battery-access explanation tells you why Android restrictions can delay checks and where to review them. Checks are scheduled about twice a day; Android decides when they run.

Tapping an alert opens update details. It never downloads or installs an APK automatically. Denying notifications or leaving battery restrictions in place still lets you use the app and check for updates in Settings.

🚘 Android Auto refinements

Saved destinations and worlds fit the car menu limits, including the expanded catalogue. Settings reflect the phone's current choices, distance units follow your preference, and ending a trip clears its guidance session. The phone includes a labelled Android Auto setup page with launcher troubleshooting. U-turn symbols follow the route’s actual turn direction, and vehicle heading follows the current road segment through tight turns.

💬 Help shape the next update

Your feedback is essential to Waypoint. Have a world, feature or improvement in mind? Request a feature. Found a bug, a confusing screen or something you love? Send feedback.

Tell us what you want to do and what would make the app easier or more enjoyable. You do not need technical knowledge to contribute. Your requests helped build this release, and they will help choose what comes next. 🙌💚

On your phone

Quests, portraits and progress are local. Compatible updates preserve them; uninstalling removes them. There is no account, subscription, Render service, cloud backup or synchronization. Multiplayer, live trip sharing, community world uploads and game-folder importing are outside this release. New worlds arrive through normal owner-published app updates.

Version 1.5.0 and its release assets remain unchanged. Android Auto still needs a supported trusted installation channel to appear in real-car launchers; this update does not remove that distribution requirement.

This release is Android-only. The contributor-led iOS port in #12 remains a separate work in progress.

Waypoint v1.5.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 16:04

Waypoint 1.5.0

This update fixes silent voice guidance, improves favourite-game selection, respects UK
English spelling and adds Twitter / X to onboarding. Thank you to everyone who reported
these problems! 💚

🔊 Voice guidance

  • Start the Android text-to-speech engine explicitly so installed voices can provide turn instructions.
  • Treat engine startup separately from missing language data. Prefer the device's English dialect, with another installed English voice as a fallback.
  • Retry failed initialization when starting navigation or turning voice back on. Discard queued instructions when muted or when the trip ends, and avoid replaying old turns after a delayed startup.

🎮 Onboarding

  • Select several favourite games with clear checkmarks, a selection count and accessible checked states. Rapid taps retain earlier choices.
  • Use UK English spelling when the device is set to English (United Kingdom), including “favourite”, “colours” and “recentre”.
  • Choose Twitter / X when telling us where you found Waypoint. The referral list scrolls on smaller screens and with larger text.

🚘 Android Auto: launcher availability

Settings and the setup guide now explain why a GitHub-installed APK may be absent from
Customize launcher and the car display. Google's Unknown sources option does not
apply to Car App Library apps like Waypoint. Real-car testing needs a supported trusted
installation channel, such as Google Play Internal App Sharing or an Internal Test Track.
This release does not claim to remove that distribution requirement or establish a Play channel.

🙌 Community shout-outs

  • 🔊 @nikkvfox — thanks for flagging missing voice guidance even with speech languages installed! #1
  • 🚘 @RoseMariXOXOXO — thanks for reporting the missing Android Auto launcher entry and the troubleshooting you had already tried. #2
  • 🧭 @kiri-responsib — thanks for the detailed report covering both Android Auto visibility and silent voice guidance. #3
  • 🎮 🇬🇧 🐦 @harrydbarnes — a triple shout-out for catching the favourite-game selection, UK spelling and missing Twitter option! #4 · #5 · #6

Thank you for taking the time to report these. Your feedback helped pinpoint the changes above. 💚

✅ Validation

The local debug build, lint and 133 unit tests passed. Seven focused tests passed on a
physical Android 17 phone, including speech initialization, onboarding persistence, UK/US
resources, Android Auto host validation and simulated car templates. The tester confirmed
hearing the synthetic voice instruction. Google's Desktop Head Unit also showed both the
installed release and local test build in its launcher; both opened and rendered their maps.
Real-car launcher availability and real-road navigation still require validation; #2 remains open.

Waypoint v1.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 22:00

Waypoint 1.1.0

Your map now travels with you onto Android Auto. The selected game world, route and guidance move between the phone and car screen while Waypoint keeps the controls appropriate to each display.

Android Auto

  • Open Waypoint from the car launcher to see a live map in the world selected on your phone. Search places, open saved or recent destinations, preview a route, and use the car's recenter, zoom and pan controls.
  • Follow a visible route line, moving position marker, next-turn cue, remaining distance and ETA. The car map turns with travel and looks farther ahead between turns, then closer near a maneuver.
  • Shared destinations ask for confirmation before lookup or route preview. Google Maps remains available from the car launcher; Android Auto uses the navigation app you opened most recently.

Navigation and phone experience

  • Ferrostar now drives turn progress, spoken cues and rerouting for car, motorcycle and walking journeys. OSRM and Valhalla still supply the roads and routes; MapLibre draws the themed maps.
  • Locate returns to a useful street-level view, and 2D/3D tilt works across all 27 worlds. The phone and car keep the selected world's palette when it changes during a trip.
  • Route previews clear an outdated line while a new route is requested. Search handles more spelling variations and shows the provider's actual place name and address when available.
  • The launch, world gallery and onboarding flow have received additional layout, motion and readability refinements.

Reliability and updates

  • Navigation actions and car callbacks are bound to the trip or destination that created them. Car display input and geocoder result counts are bounded, and signed releases check main-branch ancestry before publishing.
  • An older installed release checks for this stable update when Waypoint enters the foreground. Review these notes in the update prompt, choose Download update, then confirm installation in Android. Saved places and settings remain on your phone after a compatible update.

Download Waypoint.apk from this release or open Settings → App updates in Waypoint. Maps, search and routes need internet access. Live traffic, offline routing and lane guidance are not included. A physical vehicle and long-duration driving remain to be tested.

Waypoint v1.0.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 10:41

Waypoint 1.0.0

Waypoint’s first stable release brings game-inspired cartography to real streets. All 27 worlds are free to explore, with navigation, place search and a redesigned introduction to the app.

A faster way back to your map

  • After onboarding, Waypoint opens directly to your last selected world. The world gallery remains one tap away whenever you want to switch styles.
  • Existing users see the refreshed introduction once after updating; saved places and map preferences remain on their device.
  • The rotating globe, world previews and onboarding artwork have been refined for a more cohesive first run.

Maps and navigation

  • Each world has its own map palette, typography, controls and place markers. Blips for food, drinks, shops, schools, hospitals and other useful places appear as you zoom in, with density tuned to keep the map readable.
  • Locate returns to your current position at a useful street-level zoom, even after you have zoomed far out. The 2D/3D tilt control works across map styles.
  • World selection remembers your scroll position. Gallery previews use real map locations, including Kolkata.
  • Car, motorcycle and walking routes offer spoken directions, distance and ETA. Shared geo: and Google navigation links open a destination preview after you confirm it, with clearer handling of coordinates and place names.

Quality and privacy

  • Smoother globe and map motion, clearer labels, more consistent controls and fixes across the onboarding and world-selection flows.
  • Feedback in Settings prepares a GitHub issue with the current world and app version for you to review and submit.
  • No account, ads, subscriptions or paywall. Saved places stay on your device. The release also includes dependency, component and repository security checks.

Thanks

Thank you to u/cuberisk for suggesting that Waypoint open the map directly instead of asking you to choose a world every time the app starts.

Install and updates

Download Waypoint.apk from this release, or use Settings → App updates in an older installed version. Waypoint verifies the download before Android asks you to confirm installation. Maps, search and routes require an internet connection; live traffic, offline routing and Android Auto are not available in this release.
