@thgill thgill released this 01 Nov 14:53

New features. Copy boot.iso to the root of your card in place of the previous one.

ENHANCED/FIXED

  • Faster animations in the menu (scrolling long files names, logo sheen) and artwork loads faster. Access light should no longer constantly blink (these were actually fixed in the previous release).

New

  • Random game: press X in Games, Favorites or Recent. After TOOLS > SCAN CARD it picks from the whole card; otherwise from the folder you're in. It goes to the game and opens its menu.
  • Hide games: HIDE GAME in a game's menu takes it off the list without deleting it. OPTIONS > SHOW HIDDEN GAMES shows them again, dimmed, with UNHIDE GAME.
  • Colour themes: OPTIONS > THEME: Synth, Navy, Moss, Wine and Grey. The logo's outline follows the theme.
  • Sound effects: for moving, selecting, going back, switching tabs, random picks and starting a game. OPTIONS > SOUND EFFECTS turns them off.
  • Screensaver: a wireframe shape that tumbles over a starfield and changes shape every time it hits the edge of the screen. OPTIONS > SCREENSAVER: off, 1, 5 or 30 minutes (5 by default). Any button brings the menu back.

Files

  • boot.iso: the menu disc
  • 3DO-ODE-Cover-Maker.html / .py: the cover tools (unchanged)

3DO ODE Menu 2026-10-31

A fix release for XPort and PAL consoles. Copy boot.iso to the root of your card in place of the previous one.

Fixes
XPort: the 2026-10-30 release showed the splash and then a black screen on an XPort; the menu now starts there again. Nothing changes on the FZ-1 ODE or clones.
PAL consoles: the menu now sits in the middle of the screen instead of at the top with junk below it, and runs at the same speed as on NTSC. Nothing changes on NTSC consoles.

3DO-ODE-Cover-Maker.html / .py: the cover tools (unchanged)

Thanks to the XPort and PAL testers for the quick reports and testing.

3DO ODE Menu 2026-10-30 (initial release)

@thgill thgill released this 30 Oct 12:47

A new menu for 3DO optical drive emulators: Fixel's FZ-1 ODE and XPort, and most clones. Copy boot.iso to the root of your card in place of the stock one (keep the original so you can go back).

What's in it

  • Tabs for Games, Favorites, Recent, Tools and Options
  • Box art or screenshots in the info pane, laid out to fit each cover's shape
  • Sorted folders, with Disc 2 before Disc 10
  • A game in its own folder shows up as the game, no need to open the folder
  • Multi-disc games: start disc 1 and the menu offers to queue the rest
  • Favorites, recently played and a play queue
  • Quick browsing of big folders after the first visit
  • Hold up/down to scroll (it speeds up), L/R to switch tabs, left/right to jump by letter
  • All the original tools (NVRAM, dumps, firmware update, Storage Manager)

Covers

The menu doesn't convert pictures while you browse, so make the covers first with the Cover Maker:

  • 3DO-ODE-Cover-Maker.html: open it in Chrome or Edge, choose your SD card, press MAKE COVERS.
  • 3DO-ODE-Cover-Maker.py: the same thing for Firefox/Safari users, needs Python 3 and Pillow.

Both get box art, screenshots or title screens from the libretro thumbnail collection, use your own pictures if you have them, and save the folder indexes so first visits on the console are quick. The pictures belong to the games' publishers, so please don't share them.

Clones

Tested on Fixel's FZ-1 ODE and XPort, and on a clone. The clones seen so far run firmware based on FCare's SataTo3DO, which answers a number of requests differently; the menu allows for all of them. On a clone, make covers with the Cover Maker (the console's own card scan only indexes folders there). If a game won't start on your clone, open your games folder, run Tools > ODE Test and post photos of both pages in an issue.

Thanks to Fixel for the FZ-1 ODE, and to all the testers for a lot of patient testing.
