v3.0.0 let you slow a program down and step through it one scheduling decision at a time. v3.1.0 makes what you see easier to read: the Execution Log now indents events by fiber, filters them, and explains the runtime patterns it recognises.

Highlights

  • Indent by fiber. The Execution Log indents each event by the depth of its fiber, in chronological order, so you still see fibers interleave. A fork records both the fiber that ran it and the one the child inherits from, which differ for forEach({ concurrency }) workers. (#48, #49)
  • Hints. Rows that match a known runtime pattern explain it in one line: async boundaries, handoffs between fibers, a forked fiber's first run, interruption ending a span as a failure, finalizers in reverse order. (#50, #75, #77)
  • Log filters. One options menu turns indentation and hints on or off, both on by default, and hides groups of events like spans, scheduling or retries. The onboarding tour covers it. (#51, #52)
  • Picking a program runs it at the current speed, stopping the previous run. (#57)
  • Effect's own types in the readonly editor. On mobile, Safari and offline, hovers and inference now match the editable path. On touch, tapping a word shows its type. (#54, #53)
  • Phones in landscape. The header hides, the logs collapse, and the visualizer shows one view at a time behind tabs. (#60, #66)

Fixes and polish

  • Reset or a program switch mid-run no longer throws or logs the run as failed (#61)
  • A run started by Step waits in starting... until its process is up, so a Run pressed in that gap is no longer lost (#73)
  • Desktop panels shrink back after you drag the divider or zoom (#58)
  • The transport bar fits a phone at 110% zoom (#59)
  • The boot log says offline when you are offline, even on mobile or Safari, and says what readonly mode means (#55, #47)
  • Selects have their dropdown arrow back and the info modal's links look like links (#47)
  • The example programs type their requirements as Layer.Layer.Any (#56)
  • Settings saved under the project's former name carry over (#71)

Project

EffectViz is now MIT licensed and has a contributing guide (#70). A Playwright suite runs the production build in Chromium and WebKit, phone included (#69, #74, #76), and typecheck fails on Effect language service diagnostics (#63).
