New features:

  • Modern Wayland-first implementation with multiple backends:
    • XDG Desktop Portal: fullscreen and interactive selection
    • GNOME Shell: window/full via org.gnome.Shell.Screenshot
    • KDE Plasma: window/full via Spectacle (if installed)
    • wlroots: fullscreen/selection via grim + slurp (if installed)
    • COSMIC (Pop!_OS): fullscreen/selection via cosmic-screenshot (preferred on COSMIC sessions)
  • New Preferences option: select Wayland backend behavior (Auto / Prefer COSMIC / Force Portal)
  • Environment toggles for fine-grained control:
    • SHUTTER_SKIP_PORTAL, SHUTTER_PREFER_COSMIC, SHUTTER_FORCE_PORTAL
    • SHUTTER_PORTAL_TIMEOUT_MS, SHUTTER_PORTAL_MINIMAL

Bug fixes and polish:

  • Guarded X11-only calls on Wayland to avoid runtime exceptions (pointer queries etc.)
  • Silenced Gtk-CRITICAL warning for drag icon when no drag site is present
  • Improved debug logging and timeout handling for portal calls
  • Debian packaging refreshed (debhelper-compat 13) with Recommends for Spectacle and cosmic-screenshot
