Deskwright 0.2.0b1 — Linux hybrid beta

Deskwright 0.2.0b1 is the Linux hybrid computer-use beta for GNOME Wayland.

Agents can combine guarded native controls, exact completion queries and short execution batches, with screenshot fallback for incomplete accessibility and visual tasks. The release includes faster scoped/provider queries, improved Unicode and replacement-text verification, partial-execution evidence, and fresh recovery observations without automatic input replay.

Install or upgrade

New installation:

Keep system-site-packages enabled for the distro's PyGObject. Upgrades from 0.1.1 need a GNOME logout/login to load the extension update and an MCP connection restart for the Python code. Do not log out automatically. This beta requires explicit prerelease selection on PyPI; the previous stable package remains available.

Evidence and limits

• The release tree passed 525 local tests, Ruff, extension syntax checks, and an 18/18 private-desktop self-test. Wheel and source archive validation confirmed all extension files and the new runtime modules ship. Installed-wheel MCP discovery passed with 41 default tools and 42 with Python execution enabled.
• The measured Files/Editor/Calculator workflow averaged 92.64 seconds hybrid versus 179.03 seconds visual, with two runs per method. This is a familiar-workflow result, not a universal performance claim.
• A separate four-runs-per-version Writer comparison reduced worker-local time by 46.1%. That excludes model and transport time and uses the previous hybrid as its baseline.
• Earlier live receiver-contract checks passed 12/12, including stale-frame rejection and releasing held input after cancellation or worker loss.
• Windows is not implemented. Accessibility provider calls may exceed cooperative scan budgets. Field text readback and window arrival do not prove application-level completion.
