Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen 0.2.0

This experimental Android update improves the lower-screen battle, Bag, and
party interfaces; fixes Summary and PC Operations crashes; and refreshes the
launcher icon.

Changes

  • Fix crashes in PC Operations, including Move Items and empty-cursor cases.
  • Fix crashes when opening or closing a Pokémon Summary and when using the
    markings page.
  • Start every new app session at normal game speed.
  • Keep the battle prompt stable while entering and leaving FIGHT, BAG, and
POKéMON, and show "What will {Pokémon} do?" while waiting for input.
  • Remove brief stale battle and transition frames when returning from lower
    screen battle menus.
  • Redesign FIGHT moves and the five exploration controls with a raised,
    three-dimensional button style.
  • Replace the Bag tabs with category cards, show items on a separate scrolling
screen, and provide an icon-based back control.
  • Redesign party cards as full button surfaces and improve their spacing.
  • Make party details close only through a dedicated back button; hide the five
exploration controls while details are open and resize the cards to fit.
  • Reduce the size of move effectiveness arrows.
  • Replace the launcher artwork and add a circular adaptive icon without white
    corners.

Download and update

Download Pokemon-FireRed-Dual-Screen-0.2.0.apk and install it over the
existing release app. Back up your save first; do not uninstall or clear app
data. The APK uses the same release signing key as earlier public versions.

Package: com.pokefirered.dualscreen. Display version: 0.2.0.
Android version code: 10404. The debug app and its saves remain separate.

Your own extracted Pokémon FireRed Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1) .gba file
is required: 16 MiB, SHA-1 dd5945db9b930750cb39d00c84da8571feebf417.
No full retail ROM is included or provided. Matching ROM-data ranges are
restored from the verified user ROM; compiled code and unmatched upstream
resources remain.

Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify the APK download. The standard 128 KiB save is
Android/data/com.pokefirered.dualscreen/files/pokefirered.sav.

Validation and limitations

ROM-free regressions cover Summary opening and exit, Summary markings, storage
sprites, normal-speed startup, and the battle Bag, party, snapshots, switching,
and menu transitions. Android release compilation and the APK's package,
version, signature, alignment, and byte-exact ROM-restoration checks pass.

The signed release build was installed over 0.1.3 on an AYN Thor. Its save and
settings files remained byte-identical, cold launch completed, and Android's
crash buffer stayed clear. A complete playthrough and other devices have not
been validated. ARMv7 only;
ARM64-only devices are unsupported. Link/wireless multiplayer, LeafGreen, other
ROM revisions, translations, and ROM hacks are unsupported.

Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen 0.1.3

This experimental Android update fixes Pokémon Storage System crashes, restores
reliable save writes, and makes display settings and the in-game EXIT command
behave consistently on native Android devices.

Changes

  • Fix the crash when opening Someone's PC and moving the storage cursor without
    holding a Pokémon.
  • Fix the crash after answering NO to "Continue BOX operations?". Storage now
stops its VBlank callback before teardown and skips the rest of the frame once
    its state has been released.
  • Fix save failures caused by a damaged or stale long-lived save path. Each
commit rebuilds the Android external-storage filename before atomically
    replacing the live save.
  • Make Widescreen default to OFF and remember the selected value on the device.
OFF preserves the original 3:2 image with black side bars; ON stretches the
complete game image across the upper display.
  • Remove the unused Background setting from the lower-screen settings menu.
  • Make EXIT in FireRed's own menu close the Android application cleanly.

Download and update

Download Pokemon-FireRed-Dual-Screen-0.1.3.apk and install it over the
existing release app. Back up your save first; do not uninstall or clear app
data. The APK uses the same release signing key as earlier public versions.

Package: com.pokefirered.dualscreen. Display version: 0.1.3.
Android version code: 10403. The debug app and its saves remain separate.

Your own extracted Pokémon FireRed Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1) .gba file
is required: 16 MiB, SHA-1 dd5945db9b930750cb39d00c84da8571feebf417.
No full retail ROM is included or provided. Matching ROM-data ranges are
restored from the verified user ROM; compiled code and unmatched upstream
resources remain.

Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify the APK download. The standard 128 KiB save is
Android/data/com.pokefirered.dualscreen/files/pokefirered.sav.

Validation and limitations

ROM-free native regressions cover save replacement and storage teardown,
including the reported NO response. The wider menu, battle, map, and storage
regression suite passes, as do Android release compilation and the APK's
package, version, signature, alignment, and byte-exact ROM-restoration checks.

The storage cursor crash was reproduced from an Android native crash trace and
fixed at the exact null access. The final release was checked on an AYN Thor.
A complete playthrough and other devices have not been validated. ARMv7 only;
ARM64-only devices are unsupported. Link/wireless multiplayer, LeafGreen, other
ROM revisions, translations, and ROM hacks are unsupported.

@venom13 venom13 released this 31 Aug 14:51

Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen 0.1.2

This experimental Android update fixes battle interruptions during Pokémon
replacement, keeps battle menus on the lower screen, and improves map and badge
layout. It includes all fixes tested locally after the public 0.1.1 release.

Changes

  • Fix the crash when a rival or another trainer sends out their next Pokémon.
Native battle responses now handle an omitted party order safely, including
    cancelled party selections.
  • Fix the black screen after the player's Pokémon faints. The lower display
opens the required replacement picker while the upper display keeps showing
the battle. The picker stays open until an eligible Pokémon is selected.
  • Support voluntary lower-screen Pokémon switching and cancellation. Preserve
party order and reject fainted, egg, active, or already-selected replacements.
  • Fix the classic party menu waiting indefinitely for a graphics transfer.
  • Keep the battle bag open until item use or cancel, including party and move
targeting for medicine and PP recovery. The battle stays visible above.
  • Stop new encounters briefly displaying the previous wild Pokémon's HP.
Publish battle cards only after the new encounter's Pokémon data is ready.
  • Expand the lower-screen map to fill the area above the navigation tabs.
  • Match HINTS weakness badges to the smaller Pokémon type badges and shrink
them further when needed to fit the card.

Download and update

Download Pokemon-FireRed-Dual-Screen-0.1.2.apk and install it over the existing
release app. Back up your save first; do not uninstall or clear app data.
The APK uses the same release signing key as 0.1.1.

Package: com.pokefirered.dualscreen. Display version: 0.1.2.
Android version code: 10402, above public 0.1.1 and the earlier local test
builds. The debug app and its saves remain separate.

Your own extracted Pokémon FireRed Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1) .gba file
is required: 16 MiB, SHA-1 dd5945db9b930750cb39d00c84da8571feebf417.
No full retail ROM is included or provided. Matching ROM-data ranges are
restored from the verified user ROM; compiled code and unmatched upstream
resources remain.

Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify the APK download. The standard 128 KiB save is
Android/data/com.pokefirered.dualscreen/files/pokefirered.sav.
See the save guide.

Validation and limitations

Native-source regressions cover forced and voluntary replacements, party order,
cancellation, invalid targets, sequential doubles selections, battle items,
graphics-transfer waits, and 96 encounters across snapshot timing scenarios.
Java checks cover persistent panels and replacement eligibility. The old party
loader and rival response code reproduce the reported failures in regression
tests; the fixes pass with address and undefined-behavior sanitizers.

The same fixes were tested on AYN Thor in the final local 0.1.1 release
candidate before this version bump. In the Route 22 rival battle, a Pokémon
fainted, the lower replacement picker stayed open with the battle visible above,
and selecting another Pokémon allowed the next turn to complete. Cancel and
tapping the fainted Pokémon did not dismiss the forced picker. The test did not
change the saved game or settings. Weakness badge sizing was also checked on
the device. The clean 0.1.2 build has identical native executable code and data
apart from its build timestamp. The APK passes package/version, signature,
alignment, and byte-exact ROM restoration checks. ARMv7 audio tests, including
the full music/effects sweep, and map/menu regressions also pass.

A full playthrough, other devices, and a fresh-install/save-write test matrix
have not been repeated for 0.1.2. ARMv7 only; ARM64-only devices are unsupported.
Widescreen remains experimental. Link/wireless multiplayer, LeafGreen, other
ROM revisions, translations, and ROM hacks are unsupported.

GAME FREAK. Existing credits and third-party notices
remain applicable.

@venom13 venom13 released this 31 Aug 06:01

Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen 0.1.1

This experimental Android update restores game audio and fixes the lower-screen
map and several menu/startup freezes.

APK refresh — 2026-08-31

The APK has been replaced with the type-badge layout fix while keeping version
0.1.1 and Android version code 10401. Download it again and install over
the existing app to receive the fix; do not uninstall or clear app data.
The APK uses the same release signing key. SHA256SUMS.txt has been updated,
and the v0.1.1 source tag now points to the corresponding badge-fix commit.

Changes

  • Shrink Pokémon type badges by about 30% in battle cards and the party detail
header. Fit single/dual types using their actual drawn widths, with a gap
between badges and alignment inside the card instead of overlap or overflow.
  • Restore music, sound effects and Pokémon cries with the native MP2K driver,
PCM/BDPCM mixer and CGB sound channels. Initialization no longer waits for
    unavailable GBA audio hardware.
  • Preserve volume controls, normal-tempo fast-forward music, accelerated music,
and audio pause/resume. Cry playback now reports completion correctly.
  • Render FireRed's Kanto and Sevii Town Maps on the lower screen, with location
markers and the correct map for the player's region.
  • Fix Bag, TM Case and Berry Pouch initialization waiting indefinitely for
    graphics transfers.
  • Prevent Pokémon Center entry/resume from starting unsupported GBA wireless
    hardware tasks. Multiplayer remains unsupported.
  • Add regression tests for audio, maps, menu initialization and Pokémon Centers.

Download and update

Download Pokemon-FireRed-Dual-Screen-0.1.1.apk and install it over the existing
release app. Back up your save first; do not uninstall or clear app data.

Package: com.pokefirered.dualscreen. Display version: 0.1.1.
Android version code: 10401. This is higher than local test builds through
0.1.4, so those builds can also update in place with their saves and settings.
The debug app remains separate.

The APK requires your own extracted Pokémon FireRed Version (USA, Europe)
(Rev 1)
.gba file: 16 MiB, SHA-1
dd5945db9b930750cb39d00c84da8571feebf417. No full retail ROM is included or
provided. Matching ROM-data ranges are restored from the verified user ROM;
compiled code and unmatched upstream resources remain.

Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify the downloaded APK. The standard 128 KiB save is
Android/data/com.pokefirered.dualscreen/files/pokefirered.sav.
See the save guide.

Validation and limitations

The release build and packaging checks cover ROM-data reconstruction, native
loader error handling, package identity, signature and ZIP alignment. ARMv7
execution tests cover startup, all 91 music tracks and 255 effects, normal
and reversed cries, concurrent playback, pause/resume, reset, volume and
2×/3×/4× resampling. Map, menu and Pokémon Center regression tests also pass.

The same game code was checked on AYN Thor in the local 0.1.4 build: cold
launch, Continue, quest-log return to gameplay, active speaker-routed stereo
audio and background/resume. Save and settings hashes remained unchanged.
The refreshed APK keeps that native game/audio library unchanged. Its UI update
passed release compilation and the existing single/double battle layout checks;
the APK was also installed and opened on AYN Thor. This is not a full-playthrough
or broad-device compatibility guarantee, and the refreshed badge layout has not
had a complete in-game visual check on the device.

ARMv7 only; ARM64-only devices are unsupported. Widescreen remains experimental.
Link/wireless multiplayer, LeafGreen, other ROM revisions, translations and ROM
hacks are unsupported. Physical speaker output was not independently listened
to by the automated checks.

Unofficial fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo, Creatures Inc. or
GAME FREAK. Existing credits and third-party notices
remain applicable.

Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen v0.1.0

@venom13 venom13 released this 30 Aug 15:35

Pokémon FireRed Dual Screen 0.1.0

First experimental Android release of the native FireRed dual-screen port,
based on pret/pokefirered and Goldoire/pokeemerald-dualscreen.

Download and install

  1. Download Pokemon-FireRed-Dual-Screen-0.1.0.apk from this release.
  2. Install it on a compatible dual-screen Android device with 32-bit ARM support.
  3. Launch Pokemon FireRed Dual Screen and select your own extracted
Pokémon FireRed Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1) .gba file, not the ZIP.
  4. Use the top display for gameplay and the bottom display for touch controls.

Required ROM: 16 MiB (16,777,216 bytes).
SHA-1: dd5945db9b930750cb39d00c84da8571feebf417.
The full retail ROM is not included and no ROM download is provided.
Matching ROM-data ranges are removed and restored from the verified user ROM;
compiled code and unmatched upstream resources remain.

Included

  • Native C / SDL2 gameplay with a FireRed-red dual-screen interface.
  • Party, bag, trainer card, settings, and touch battle action/move menus.
  • Current / maximum HP for both player and opponent Pokémon.
  • Player EXP bar and within-level Next Level: progress / required EXP ratio.
  • Roomier battle waiting cards without the loading-dot animation.
  • Move details with separate name, type, and PP rows.
  • White-accented launcher icon and lower-screen FireRed startup logo.
  • Optional battle hints, top-screen battle menus, fast-forward and audio settings.
  • FireRed intro, name entry, battle transition, save, and load compatibility fixes.
  • ROM verification on each launch, checked asset restoration, and dedicated
    release signing.

Saves and updates

Package: com.pokefirered.dualscreen; version: 0.1.0; version code: 10000.

This installs separately from the local debug app
(com.pokefirered.dualscreen.debug) and the Emerald app. It does not
automatically copy their saves or settings.

Standard 128 KiB battery save:
Android/data/com.pokefirered.dualscreen/files/pokefirered.sav.
Back up saves before importing or updating; emulator save states are unsupported.
See the save guide.

Validation and known limitations

The underlying port's intro, name entry, first rival battle, save, Continue,
and quest-log return to gameplay were tested on AYN Thor during development.
For this release, the APK build, ROM-data reconstruction, native loader error
handling, signature, and ZIP alignment were checked locally.
Device smoke test completed on AYN Thor / Android 13 on 2026-08-30, using
the exact published APK (installed APK SHA-256 matched the release asset).

  • Fresh install and ROM-selection screen without a bundled retail ROM.
  • Rejection of a 16 MiB test file with an incorrect ROM hash.
  • Correct FireRed Rev 1 import through Android's document picker.
  • Cold restart using the verified cached ROM, without asking for it again.
  • Continue from an imported 128 KiB battery-save copy, quest-log playback,
and return to Route 1 gameplay.
  • Lower-screen startup logo, party data, and Pokémon details/move rows.
  • Original debug save and imported release save remained byte-identical;
no fatal app crash was observed during these checks.

New save writes and battles were not re-tested in this release-specific smoke
test; the earlier development coverage above does not replace a full playthrough.

This is not a complete-playthrough guarantee. ARMv7 only; ARM64-only devices
are unsupported. MAP rendering, multiplayer, LeafGreen, other ROM revisions,
translations, and ROM hacks are not supported. Widescreen remains experimental.

Use SHA256SUMS.txt to verify the downloaded APK. Report issues with the
device, Android version, reproduction steps, and a redacted crash log; never
attach ROMs, saves, or keys.
