Press59 0.4.0

@videomat videomat released this 29 Oct 19:04

Set shortcuts right from the cheat sheet, show them on screen for recordings, and see your month in Press59.

  • Edit from the cheat sheet: hold Caps Lock, then click a key to give it the app you're in, another open app, or any app. Once it's open, you can type a key too.
  • Shortcuts on screen: for screen recordings, streams and demos, a badge shows what each shortcut did and the keys that did it. Turn it on in the menu or in Settings.
  • Your Month in Press59: a card of your month (app switches, top apps, streak) to post or share, with earlier months a click away. The counts stay on your Mac; turn counting off or reset it in Settings.
  • Keyboard layouts: on Colemak, AZERTY or Dvorak, a shortcut is the letter the key types, and the cheat sheet shows your layout. In a non-Latin layout such as Russian, shortcuts use the letters of your Latin layout.
  • Your shortcuts: hold Caps Lock on its own for half a second to see them all on a keyboard. The menu now points there instead of listing every shortcut.

Press59 now moves windows too, and shows your shortcuts when you hold Caps Lock.

  • Move windows: Caps Lock + ← → ↑ ↓ for halves, thirds and quarters. Caps Lock + Return fills the screen; press again to center.
  • Cheat sheet: hold Caps Lock on its own to see your shortcuts.
  • Dock apps: on first launch, Press59 suggests a letter for each app in your Dock. Pick the ones you want.
  • Guide: "How Press59 Works" explains every key. It's in the menu and Settings.
  • Settings: split into Shortcuts, General and About tabs.

Window moving can be turned off in Settings; Caps Lock + arrows then go out as ⌃⌥⇧⌘ + arrow, as before.

Press59 0.2.0

@videomat videomat released this 23 Oct 19:10

Press59 now updates itself, and Caps Lock is more reliable on first launch.

New

  • Automatic updates. Press59 checks for a new version once a day and installs it in place. Your shortcuts and Accessibility permission carry over. Check by hand from Check for Updates… in the menu or Check Now in Settings, or turn automatic checks off in Settings.

Fixed

  • Caps Lock sometimes didn't work right after granting Accessibility access. Press59 now keeps trying until it can catch your shortcuts, instead of needing a relaunch.
  • Your other key remaps are kept. Remaps from Karabiner-Elements, your own scripts or System Settings › Modifier Keys are no longer cleared when Press59 starts or quits. Only Caps Lock is changed.
  • Lower memory use when Settings shows app icons.

Upgrading from 0.1.x

0.1.x can't update itself. Download 0.2.0 below (or from press59.win), quit Press59, and drag the new version into Applications. Future updates install automatically.

Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

  • Keys without an app are sent as ⌃⌥⇧⌘ + key, a Hyper key for Raycast, Keyboard Maestro and app shortcuts
