flipfile v0.6.1 is a bug-fix release: videos now convert to MP4 on Windows without installing anything, and Check for Updates… works again.

🎬 MOV → MP4 on Windows, Built-In

• Converting a video to MP4 on Windows no longer fails with "requires ffmpeg". Without ffmpeg, flipfile now uses Windows' own Media Foundation engine, so it works with zero installs, just like on macOS.
• 1080p, 720p and Compress work built-in on Windows too.
• Portrait videos stay portrait (no black bars on the sides), and the original frame rate is kept.
• ffmpeg is still used first when it is installed, for every other format.

🔄 Check for Updates Works Again

• Fixed "Could not check for updates": releases now include the signed update files the in-app updater looks for.
• From now on flipfile can find and install new versions by itself.

💡 iPhone videos are recorded in HEVC, which Windows can only read with Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions (preinstalled on many PCs). Without them flipfile explains what is missing instead of failing silently.

🔤 Embedded Fonts Are Now Used

• Fonts saved inside a presentation (PowerPoint's Embed fonts in the file, as well as Canva and Google Slides exports) are now read and used when converting.
• Slides keep their original typeface even on computers where that font is not installed, instead of falling back to a look-alike.

📏 Titles Stay on One Line

• Fixed titles that fit on one line in the original app being broken onto a second line, which then overlapped the bullets or shapes below them.
• This happened when a line came out a few points wider than its box (e.g. the original app applied kerning). flipfile now keeps such lines whole, matching the original layout.

↔️ "Do Not Wrap" Text Boxes

• Text boxes set not to wrap text now always keep each line whole, spilling past the box like in PowerPoint instead of breaking.
• Centred and right-aligned text in these boxes now keeps its alignment instead of shifting to the left.

3. Select Ring Navigation Mode:
   • Rooms Mode: The standard multi-level navigation starting at the Category Lobby (Photo, Office, Video, Music).

4. Customize Ring Slots (2 to 10 slots per ring):
   • To Remove a Slot: Click the × button on any slot chip in the Active Slots workbench.

Not sure which Mac you have? Open the Apple menu, choose About This Mac and look at Chip (Apple M…) or Processor (Intel).

The two .app.tar.gz files are plain archives of the Mac app made by the build. You don't need them, use the .dmg.

Install

macOS

1. Open the .dmg and drag flipfile into Applications.
2. Open flipfile. The first time, macOS says it can't verify the developer, because flipfile isn't notarized by Apple yet. Click Done.
3. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway next to flipfile. You only need to do this once.

Windows

1. Run flipfile_0.1.2_x64-setup.exe.
2. If Windows shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway. The app isn't code-signed yet, which is why SmartScreen asks.

Linux

• .deb: sudo apt install ./flipfile_0.1.2_amd64.deb
• .rpm: sudo dnf install ./flipfile-0.1.2-1.x86_64.rpm
• AppImage: chmod +x flipfile_0.1.2_amd64.AppImage, then run it.

How to use

1. Drag any file onto the flipfile circle. A ring of formats opens around it.
2. Point to the format you want: JPG, PNG, WEBP, PDF, WORD, and more under More.
3. Let go. The converted file is saved right next to the original. Click the circle to show it.

Handy extras:

• Several files at once: drop a whole batch. Several images on PDF merge into one PDF.
• Resize or compress: hold ⌥ Option (macOS) or Alt (Windows) while dragging to pick 4K, 1080p, 720p, 50% or Compress.
• Scans and photos to Word: More → WORD OCR reads the text with your system's built-in text recognition (macOS and Windows).
• Paste: copy an image or files, click flipfile, press ⌘V / Ctrl+V, then click a format.
• Menu bar / tray: recent conversions and undo. Press ⌘⇧K (macOS) or Ctrl+Shift+K (Windows/Linux) anywhere to show or hide flipfile.

Good to know

• Text recognition (WORD OCR) isn't available on Linux yet. flipfile tells you when that's the case.
• Windows and Linux builds are new. If something doesn't work, please open an issue with your OS version and the file type you tried.
