EHypView 1.37
- The accessory takes 11 KB less memory, back to about 1.35's size. With 1.36, the first boot on a Falcon under NVDI with the family's accessories had too little memory for EMail, EFTP, EUpdate and EPDF; with 1.37 it passes again.
- Help pictures: on a 1 MB Falcon, the second picture of a guide's front page shows again.
- Shared code brought up to date: faster scrolling on the ST, the family's About box.
- A line scrolled on an ST in mono: 125 ms (1.36: 135 ms).
EHypView 1.36
Tabs: several pages in one window. Control+click a link, or Control+Return, or Link in new tab (the right button's menu, Navigate) opens it in a new tab in front, with its own Back and Forward. With two tabs or more a strip shows under the toolbar: click a tab, or Control+Tab and Shift+Control+Tab, to change. Control+U and the window's closer close the tab in front, the window with its last; a tab's right button has Close tab and Close other tabs. Up to eight in a window; a tab not in front keeps its place and history, and its page is read again when it comes back. Tabs aren't kept when the window closes.
Tooltips: when BubbleGEM runs, the toolbar's tips show in its bubble. A tab whose title is cut shows it whole, with its hypertext, when the mouse rests on it.
EHypView 1.35
Faster drawing on TOS's own screen (the guidelines' Speed): plain page text and library rows drawn straight into the screen, a page's scroll moved by the CPU, the toolbar's pressed button inverted the same way. On an 8 MHz ST, a page is drawn whole in 165 ms (was 240) and scrolled by a page in 160 ms (was 235); on a Falcon, 85 and 75 ms (were 140). Under NVDI or a GDOS font, nothing changes.
Copying to the clipboard (^C) writes a long page in pieces, the same text as before.
EHypView 1.34
- One click, one step on an ST too. TOS 1.04 now and then sent a click on a window's slider track or arrow twice, so the text moved two pages (or two lines). EHypView now takes the second one for what it is, as 1.33 did for TOS 4.04 (the family's shared code; the AERA guidelines, 5.1).
- A wide window fits the screen. A hypertext with wide pages opened its window 7 pixels past the screen's right edge, its slider half hidden: EHypView lines a window's text up on 8 pixels across, and now makes the window that much narrower where it would not fit. The library's window too, and when a window is sized or moved.
EHypView 1.33
One click, one step (the AERA guidelines, 5.1).
- On TOS 4.04 (the Falcon), a click on a window's slider track moved the text two pages, and a click on an arrow two lines: TOS 4's AES sends such a click twice. EHypView now takes the second one for what it is, in the viewer and in the library: one click, one page (or one line). Holding the button down still scrolls on, as before. TOS 1.04, EmuTOS, MagiC and MiNT were never affected.
- From the family's shared code: compressed files unpack faster.
EHypView 1.32
EHypView finds its own files when another program starts it (the AERA guidelines, 6.1).
- On TOS 1.04 and 4.04, a program started by another one (the family's Help key, EUpdate) starts in the desktop's folder.
EHYPVIEW.PRGused to take that folder as its own, and could miss its index and fonts there. It now takes the folder it is in, whoever starts it. The accessory still keeps its files whereFOLDER=says, else in the boot drive's root. - Faster on an ST: making room in memory now moves four bytes at a time instead of one (the family's shared code).
EHypView 1.31
The About box in the family's words (the AERA guidelines, 1.3): under the version, one line for what EHypView holds (the hypertexts it knows and the font in use), and one for the memory: where EHypView is (ST or TT RAM) and how much is free.
From the family's shared code
- Bold drawn by the shared routine that keeps each letter in its cell (1.30's fix, now shared with the other programs).
- Dragging a hypertext onto a subject, or the edge between the panes, uses the system's own outline.
- The accessory's first start shares the memory fairly with the other accessories loading (it counts them once; later starts read only EHYPVIEW.INF).
- Every build is checked for memory accesses a 68000 can't make, after one in the shared code made accessories restart on an ST in a test build today (never in a release).
EHypView 1.30
Your own subjects in the library (Erez's request, 27 Oct 2026). A hypertext names its subject inside the file; EHypView now takes that only as a start. The library's index, EHYPVIEW.IDX, is where a hypertext belongs, and you decide.
- Drag a hypertext onto another subject in the Subjects pane, or onto a group's heading in the Outline, to file it there. Dropped on a subject it keeps its part ("Personal/Calendar" onto Utilities becomes "Utilities/Calendar"); dropped on a part it goes into that part; dropped on Other hypertexts it has none.
- Rename subject...: the right mouse button on a subject or a part renames it for all its hypertexts.
- The right mouse button on a hypertext chooses it and shows its menu (Open, Index, File under..., Rename subject...). It no longer opens the hypertext.
- The edge between the panes (Two panes) can be dragged; the width is kept (
PANECOLS=). - The hypertexts themselves are never written. One EHypView knows keeps its subject when its file is updated or moved to another folder; only a new one starts with the subject the file names. A change made in the program is seen by the accessory the next time it opens.
Fixed
- Bold text lost its last letters under NVDI (and with GDOS fonts): "On the Falcon itsel", "On every sit". NVDI's bold makes each letter wider than its cell, so a bold run ran on and the text after it covered its end. Bold is now drawn so that every letter stays in its cell.
- In Two panes, a thin stripe of the desktop showed between the subjects and the rows.
EHypView 1.29
The family's GEM look and keys (the AERA guidelines, after a tester's report; 27 Oct 2026).
Keys
- ^U closes the window in front; ^W puts EHypView's next window in front, the viewers in turn and then the library, as Thing, Gemini and MagiC's desktop have them. With one window open ^W does nothing. In the accessory ^U closes its window. Until now ^W closed a window too.
- Esc empties a text field, as in every GEM program. In the library Esc empties the search and the window stays. In Settings Esc empties the folder field the cursor is in; Undo, Cancel or the closer cancel the dialog. Where no field has the cursor, Esc still cancels, and it still closes alerts.
Look
- No 3D setting any more. Dialogs and alerts are in 3D wherever the system draws 3D (TOS 4, MagiC, N.AES, XaAES, EmuTOS in colour), as every other program's. The 3D dialogs tick is gone from Settings. A
DIALOGS3D=line inEHYPVIEW.INFis ignored and left out the next time the file is written. - Pop-ups open over their buttons (START= and the library's layout in Settings), with the choice shown ticked.
- The library's Two panes layout: the panes meet with one line, the Subjects bar's own edge, where there was a double line. Open and Index are the system's own buttons, 3D where it draws 3D.
Fixed
- In the library, a word found only inside a page's name ("viewer" in "The viewer") left Search the full text chosen, so Return searched the full text instead of opening the page found (since 1.28).
With other programs
- The AERA programs' Help key now asks the viewer named by
STGUIDEfirst. If you read hypertexts with another viewer, name it in the system's environment asSTGUIDE: the guide's "With other programs" page says how.
EHypView 1.28
Faster on every stock machine (the AERA guidelines, "Speed: the stock machines set it"). Times measured on Hatari: a 1040 ST with TOS 1.04 and a stock Falcon (16 MHz, TOS 4.04).
The library
- Typing in the search answers at once: the letter shows straight away, and the rows found follow in the next moment. Before, a letter took up to 34 s on an ST; now it takes 0.07 s (0.03 on a Falcon).
- The full-text search no longer holds the machine. It works in short slices (0.1 s on an ST, 0.05 on a Falcon), and what it finds appears as it goes. It also opens each hypertext once, not once for every page.
- The library opens faster: 0.8 s on an ST, down from 2.5 s (0.3 on a Falcon, down from 0.7).
- The rows, the slider and the info line are drawn in turns of their own, so the window stays responsive while a search runs.
The viewer
- Pages draw and scroll several times faster. A page is drawn in 0.24 s on an ST, down from 1.2 s, and scrolled a line in 0.14 s, down from 1.2 s.
- Text sits on the 8-pixel grid, and bold and underline are drawn the quick way, with the same pixels.
- Pictures come after the text, with a grey box in their place until they are ready. The pictures of the last pages are kept, so going back is quick.
Shared with the family (AERA-Atari)
- The About box is drawn in memory and shown at once, and the window under it is not redrawn.
- Text and clipping go through the family's shared text code.
Known: on an ST, a start with a very long page (900 lines) still takes about 3 s before the first answer, and Settings takes 0.4 s to open. Both are next, in 1.29.
