Status report on the development of updated DAYCLI sequence (Issue 51)

  • A small group meeting is scheduled on March 23 at 12 UTC.

Discuss options for removing the 'status' column in the tables

  • for GRIB, everything that is marked deprecated were operational at one point and we need to keep track of them. the terms with experimental were probably just legacy.
  • historically, deprecated terms are still valid for older data, but will not be carried over to a new major version. the experimental terms, (at least for Hov..) were never validated in GRIB2, but they were operational in GRIB1. They were carried over to enable backwards compatibility. The intent was to have users inform the group if used in GRIB2.
  • Regarding carry over to GRIB3, we should only migrate a minimum set and then add as needed. regarding the notes, they should also be machine-readable, but it's a big job. Maybe we only need a column to indicate deprecation (y/n) and operational is redundant. (EF)
  • ACTION: let us know if your centres are using 'experimental' or if you have ideas about status management.

Validation of machine-readable codes release candidates
